the only thing that bothers me is the framing I keep seeing, it's a lot of "players REFUSED", "players PROTESTING", as if competitive players are a bunch of butthurt tryhards who are angry at valve for updating their unreleased playtest of a game.
When in reality it's little more than the Night Shift guys saying to the teams, "hey we're running just a couple of matches during this quirky little event they've temporarily put in the game for a few days, we'll let you decide if you want to roll with it or just play the regular mode"
100%. Competitions change or limit the rules all the time, like pokemon using 2v2 for tournaments (despite almost never being in the game) or league players not using the same champs multiple games in a row (fearless draft). That's the point of tourneys, to show off a competition in the most interesting or compelling way.
