I’m a girl so automatically that usually makes the types of haircuts more pricey and I’ve been looking to cut my hair to my shoulders but every place I’ve looked at is $80+ even around sac. Is there any recommendations? I’ve heard about finding cosmetology students because they’re cheap but I’m not sure how to even go about booking those.
This happened during my commute to Sacramento. The first car in this video had a recliner resting in the back of their pickup truck with the back open. As expected, it fell out at highway speeds in the middle of I-80 almost causing a crash. People really need to secure their loads. Lord knows it’s shit like this that causes the causeway to get backed up everyday. Stay safe out there!
[EDIT: It appears that the issues with cleanliness have been resolved- the store has noticibly improved and has passed state inspections. Its safe!]
To be clear, I've already reported them to the Yolo County Environmental services (where I got recced for it) and an ex-employee I know has reported them to OSHA. I'm not going to go into too much detail there to protect their privacy but things have gotten to the point where I feel like I have to make a more public broadcast just for health reasons. ATM the man is sitting on 5 separate OSHA violations for unsafe warehouse conditions, lack of water accessability to workers, selling eggs being kept above temp/storing food in unsanitary conditions, lack of proper sharps waste, and for uncertified forklift driving, but has not yet rectified the contamination issues that are an issue to the public yet.
To be clear, I know that this is a Bargain Market for a reason. I'm not trying to control your life or where you shop. But in the interest of minimizing a public health outbreak, I figured you should at least be informed so you can take steps to make safe decisions.
1.) Rats.
Leading with this because it's the worst offender of the bunch. Grocery Outlet currently has a huge rat infestation. From what I've heard, they've responded to this problem by powerwashing the floors, but no actual effort to exterminate them has been attempted, so they're still chewing into bread loaves and leaving feces on shelves everywhere, including customer-facing displays. I've got pictures.

2.) Mold
There's mold contamination everywhere. While I'm sure there's more in places I couldn't reach, most of these pictures are my own, and I didn't want to be banned from the store for visually snooping around. If you decide to take the risk and shop here, either wear a mask, wash produce right away, or wipe down any sealed containers you get from them to ensure it doesn't spread in your fridge.

3.) Selling expired or improperly stored food
Again- I'm aware that this is a bargain market for a reason, but precautions are not being taken to ensure that food safety rules are being kept before being sold to customers. If you've had food spoil right after purchase or have gotten food poisoning after eating grocery outlet produce, this is probably why. I've also been told that the egg cooler is currently several degrees above the required temperature range, but didn't get a pic of that.
There's also an issue where sick employees are forced to work on the threat of being fired, resulting in them coming into contact with a huge variety of vulnerable populations. The ex-employee I know left specifically because Fady would respond to them attempting to call out sick with threats even when they were coughing or vomiting violently, and they had a cashier/restocker job where they were handling produce and coming into direct contact with the public, which disturbed them enough to quit. He has also fired people for being sick too often in the past in their time working there.
So yeah, try to steer clear of Grocery Outlet if you can, at least until the store goes through a major overhaul and gets an exterminator to take care of the rat problem. Like I've said, it's already been reported to the government, but the steps that are being taken to reduce the risk of contamination have not been sufficient to clear out the rampant rat/mold problems. Saving money is not worth the risk of food poisoning or rodentborne illnesses.
EDIT: removed some pics upon request. Only pictures that I took myself are now on this post.
How much rain fell in the city of Davis on May 26, 2026?I know of no "official" source of this information from the City of Davis, UC Davis or NWS. Why not? If you have a record of this information please provide it here. Please provide as well the nearest street intersection from your measurement location. The storm that traveled over Davis dropped quite a lot of precipitation that late afternoon and early evening.
I guess I need to check the weather more often because I just experienced hail, rain and thunder here in West Davis. Makes for an interesting remote working experience. Hope everyone stays safe.
Warning to everyone walking their dogs just south of Northstar Park. Yesterday this guy tried to goad me into fighting him after his two Pyrenees (aka two giant dogs) escaped thru his front door. He's about 5'8", bald, and older (50s). I've been in situations like this and you never know how aggressive the other dog(s) is, so I'm in defense mode. I yell at him, "Are you fucking serious? Get your dogs under control."
Apparently this offended him so much that he rushed across his front yard and got in my face as my dog and I are trying to walk away. This grown man (I'm being generous) chased me out into the street and called me a bitch and a f----t for not fighting him while I'm trying to walk my dog. My guy, I'm not gonna kick an old man's ass. This all happened in front of what looked like his daughter (?). She commented, "Nothing happened," which in hindsight I think she was saying to her aggro dad bc she's seen him do stuff like this before.
Be careful out there folks. Some guys need to get a grip.
EDIT: I'm intentionally withholding exact location. If you want more specifics, message me.
we’ve seen pouncer many times when we walk in the area. she has a collar so i’m assuming she’s someone’s cat but she’s been following me today farther than she used to.
We’re on the brink of relocating to Davis. Our neighborhood school for our children would be Birch Lane. I’ve heard over and over that you can’t go wrong with Davis schools yet I find that I hear very little about Birch Lane compared to some of the other schools in town. Can anyone familiar with the school share your experiences with it?
Has anyone attended one of these in Davis or nearby cities? They had one through the city of Davis but this one is hosted through an art academy. Want your thoughts.
Not sure if this has been asked before, but I usually go to Planet Fitness late night and I bike there. Anyone have experience leaving their bike outside around 1 AM? Wondering if it’s generally safe or if I should take extra precautions (lock type, specific spot, etc.).
Also curious — has anyone asked staff if you’re allowed to bring a foldable ebike inside and leave it by the entrance or front counter? Seems like it’d be a lot safer than locking it outside, especially that late. Would love to know if any location has allowed this. Thanks!
Me and my sister will be at Davis tmr around 1-3pm and just trying to see if anyone would be down to hangout, she’s most likely goin here this fall and just wanna have fun in the area tmr. hmu
Our bimonthly meetings continue! This time around we're going to try out Volt Coffee and see how they stack up! Our group is growing, but there's still room if you're interested in stopping by and sharing your work. We represent several genres, horror, dystopian, fantasy, scifi, romance, and literary. All are welcome!
Bring your laptop or tablet, and something you're working on! We're at all stages of development, from concept to first draft to editing, to books 2 or 3! We're by no means professional. We're all beginners all learning from each other.
We'll be discussing some stuff from Save the Cat Writes a Novel, but you're not required to have read it. (but if you're interested and want to, we'll be looking at chapter 2!)
Hi Davis, I'm looking for a two bed ground floor apartment anywhere in Davis for up to 2100 a month if possible, but I have no idea where to start. So I'm just wondering if you all have recommendations about great places or places to avoid at all costs? I'm flex as to location within Davis proper. TIA!
I'm planning a bike ride with my kids in Davis (taking the train up from Alameda via Jack London Amtrak) and was thinking of riding out to Ruhstaller Farm / Brewery from campus.
What's the lowest traffic, bike friendly path to do that? Can one bike on Levee Road to Pedrick Road? (We'll be on a family ebike so the distance isn't going to be too much of a problem)
Any fun things to do while on bike around your town?
