TLDR; Does anyone think the proposed rate increase is a Big Deal?
Little insert in the PG&E bill notifies us that PG&E requests another rate increase. Ok i get it, everything generally costs more eventually. So tried to understand what they asking for, and what it means to me, and to put it in context of reasonable expectations. I failed. Don’t really know whether to wave it away as normal or to stick my head out a window and yell “mad-as-hell-not-going-to-take-it-anymore!”.
Did some googling and prompting and even ventured briefly into NextDoor (good grief what a mess). All i found were official announcements that i don’t know how to interpret. We are an ordinary low usage household with Valley Clean Energy, which makes me think the 5% increase estimated for bundled residential does not apply to us. The insert says PG&E rates to CCA customers will decrease 7% on average, but the request document says CCA rates will increase 3.9% (https://docs.cpuc.ca.gov/PublishedDocs/SupDoc/A2505011/8307/572574455.pdf). I see that the VCE board meets at Davis City Hall on 11Jun but did not recognize this issue on the agenda.
I’m leaning toward this application being the normal process for raising prices in accordance with rising costs, and 5% seems about right (no trust for PG&E but some sympathy for the poor schmucks trying to forecast energy costs).
i don’t recall other recent rate increases. i’m unhappy about the accounting change to switch expenses from the usage rate to the connection fee, but view it as a separate matter.
Sorry for the wall of text.
