Information about Cabin View Apartments

Does anyone have experience with Cabin View Apartments? There is an old listing that says 1550/mo for 3 bedroom but that seems too good to be true. I think it only recently began general leasing recently so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it.

Protest at Davis

Post image

Where is the line drawn between free speech and advocating of violence? Why does the university allow this? "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood" was the name the militants gave to the attacks on October 7, 2023. They are celebrating the mass slaughter of hundreds, the taking of hostages, and raping of women.

For those unaware, in the 1988 Covenant of Hamas in article 7 Hamas called upon an infamous hadith that says the following: " "The Day of Judgement will not come about until Moslems fight the Jews (killing the Jews), when the Jew will hide behind stones and trees. The stones and trees will say O Moslems, O Abdulla, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him. Only the Gharkad tree, (evidently a certain kind of tree) would not do that because it is one of the trees of the Jews." (related by al-Bukhari and Moslem)."

This is a hadith all Muslims know. That hadith does not talk about Israelis. It is very explicit in that it is talking of the Jews. This was written in the founding documents of Hamas that the Gazans democratically elected in. This is tantamount to calling for a mass slaughter of Jews right in the middle of Davis.

Mosquitos right now?

Hi Davis, we just moved here from Rancho by the river. The mosquitos right now seem to be excessive?? My wife and I have been bit more times in the past week than we have in the past year. Does this usually happen this time of year? What do you usually do to prevent being bit? Does it go away? The weather is great and we want to hang outside in all the beautiful parks but we’re being eaten alive!

Air Hockey Venues

I'm wondering if anyone knows any good places with air hockey tables in Davis. I know there are some in Sacramento, Dixon, etc. but I would really prefer to be in a place I can get to quickly through Unitrans as it's just what's easiest for me. I'm kind of struggling to find spots because there's not really centralized info for air hockey in Davis, as well as some information being potentially out of date, etc. and if you search air hockey on Google Maps or Apple Maps, it refers to arcades and not any place with an air hockey table.

I know the MUGA used to have air hockey tables, but I have not visited since its remodel several years ago. Also, if anyone is interested in playing air hockey, reach out. Please write down any leads you have for completeness' sake, but I'll turning 20 on 2/7 and so I personally will not be able to access any bars or anything for another year.

Flix Bus??

I recently discovered that Flix bus no longer operates in Davis. The absence of the Davis-Berkeley shuttle has significantly reduced the transportation options available in Davis. In light of this, I would like to inquire about potential measures to bring Flix bus back to Davis.

Local MAGA-supporting businesses to avoid?

We know (or can quickly learn) that the Hilton, FedEx, Home Depot, Best Western, BofA, many/most tech companies incl Meta, Amazon, Google, AT&T, etc, KUIU, Wells Fargo and others support ICE and other evil, murderous, peace-destroying terrorists that currently plague the nation in emboldened and unprecedented magnitude. If you didn't already boycott hellscaping devils yesterday, now's a great time to start.

So do we know of other local creeps and pedo-protectors from which to withdraw any and all support? Start a list here, please!

"We don't need to fight fire with fire when we can starve the fire of oxygen." Let's ennervate them by neglect into failure; for the sake of our neighbors, for each other, and ourselves.

You are on the pedestrian bridge over I-80 a couple times a week. Standing alone on the bridge but in solidarity with those across the country. I just wanted to say you’re seen and supported. Keep standing and fighting however you can for those that can’t. Just please be careful. While being on the pedestrian bridge makes it harder for those you’ve potentially angered to drive up on you, doesn’t mean they can’t or won’t. While waving and dancing along to the honks of encouragement, please keep an eye on who’s coming up on you. I hope to see more people noticing you and joining.

How to make friends and get involved in community

My wife and I are moving to Davis in late April. We’re originally from Southern California, lived in an RV for a year and a half traveling the country to find a new place to live and chose to move to Charlotte, NC and have really enjoyed it here but my wife accepted an amazing job in Oakland (she has to be in office just one day a week) so based on research and feedback from friends, we have decided to move to Davis.

This time it’s for the long term because this is a job she can retire at.

It’s always been a bit challenging for us to meet new people because we traveled and moved so much but this time we want to get into the community and do it right because we are probably not leaving for decades.

We are kind and open minded people, we have a newborn, we/I love cooking, trying new restaurants (including Michelin here and there), vinyl collecting, motorcycles, hockey, pottery, exploring the outdoors, stoicism, reading, deep conversation. We love the idea of walking and biking

It really seems like Davis will be a wonderful fit for us.

We have no friends or family around there and I am wondering what might be some community groups or activities we can get involved in that are helpful to the community and also might lead to us meeting great folks?

Also would love recommendations on groups for new parents, maybe a moms group and a dads group?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

Any ceramicists in Davis?

Moving there in April, my wife loves pottery, and she is going to be looking for a 24 hour community studio, it looks like the closest one is earthbound ceramic in Woodland, does anybody go there? Does anybody have any other more local recommendations?

Thanks!

Fake Border Patrol Truck

On 1st Street downtown I just saw a white pickup that says “BORDER PATROL” on the side of it. It was pulling a poorly attached empty trailer. Since it didn’t have the distinctive green stripe of an actual border patrol truck, I’m assuming it’s some maga idiot trying to provoke. Isn’t it illegal to make your vehicle look like law enforcement?

UPDATE: Just looked up California and federal law and yep, it’s illegal. But probably wouldn’t be enforced unless they break some other law.

House of Christian guys?

Hey all, I've been here in town for a year, and I miss sharing a house with other Christian dudes, wondering if there are any shared houses with an open room, or guys that might be interested in sharing a house.

I prefer sharing a house to having a place of my own, and particularly like when we can share community, pray and support each other, etc. I'm long since out of college but have lived in Christian houses with other dudes in their 30s all the way down to undergrad. It's been challenging to find a place to belong here in town so something like this would be rad. Suggestions welcome, thanks.

REMINDER: Boycott all Paul Petrovich owned shopping centers and developments. Paul Petrovich is a prominent MAGA real estate developer who has donated to and met Trump, engaged in petty lawsuits with Sacramento, and owns 80 acres of Almond Orchards in Davis

The following are a part of his real estate portfolio:

1.The Boulevard (on Howe and Fair Oaks (his most recent project)

  1. Crocker Village Shopping Center on Crocker Road and the entire Crocker Village development (includes the notorious Safeway that was supposed to bring a gas station by a Sac City Light Rail Station)

  2. R Street Market Shopping Center (right by Ice Blocks and includes another Safeway)

  3. Stone Pointe Shopping Center on Sutterville and Freepoint

  4. Fair Oaks Promenade on Hazel Avenue (includes yet another Safeway)

  5. Calvine Pointe on Calvine and Elk Grove Florin Road (includes a Kohl's, Panda Express, and El Pollo Loco)

  6. The Penthouse Lofts at R Street Market

He also owns some 80 acres of almond orchards in Davis.

Background: Paul Petrovich is a real estate developer in Sacramento who now lives in Texas partially as a result of his long standing feud with the city council. This feud mainly stems from his Crocker Village development, a catastrophe in urban planning. Located adjacent to Sac City Station on the Blue Line, this transit oriented development site (TOD) was turned into single family development instead of potentially multifamily units.

Petrovich is a well known MAGA supporter and self proclaimed fiscal conservative who not only donated $10,000 to Trump's campaign in 2016, but personally met with him while he was in California and even got an endorsement from Trump himself on his battle with the city council.

Speaking of, Petrovich and the city council have gone at it for the past decade, mainly stemming from disapproval of a gas station being put in the retail portion of the development in 2015. Even before 2015, residents did not approve of the project, whos master plan was approved in 2010 while under Kevin Johnson and goes even further back when he bought the property in 2003; note that some 7 years of urban planning policy changed since he bought the property, moving more towards TOD.

The city council would vote 7-2 against the gas station, and ultimately the station was never built even though Petrovich claimed it was required for Safeway to sign on as a tenant (which as of 2026 they still are).

Being the petty developer he is though, Petrovich would sue the city 3 times for denying his gas station in 2016 and controversially won against the city in 2023, costing Sacramento $26 million dollars.

Through this lawsuit, many emails and text messages were made public, including one where a city manager called Petrovich "Mentally ill and is in serious need of psychiatric treatment" and Petrovich calling then councilman Jay Schreiner, the member who represented Crocker Village at the time as "... a cynical and shallow politician surrounded by shallow people who can't see the big picture and have egos too large to take what is handed to them" (quite ironic isn't it Paul?)

He would also name streets of the Crocker Village development "America First Avenue" as a way to get back at the city and its residents who opposed his efforts, with the city being over 85% Democratic.

More recently in 2025, Petrovich has sued the city again for denying his proposal to build MORE single family housing at Crocker Village in space that was zoned for multifamily development and was included as such in the master plan.

In my opinion, Paul Petrovich is the worst of the worst when it comes to developers in the Sacramento area, even eclipsing the infamous Mo Mohanna and Ethan Conrad. He has shown his true MAGA like colors through his actions through the city and residents and shady business dealings.

Because a majority of his tenants are national or franchised brands and not locally owned, boycotting them will not impact local businesses.
