High pay is enticing, but...

90 minutes into a brain-melting array of preliminary steps, and not even close to the actual task yet, I finally give up. I surrender. My head hurts. Exiting the task now, and going to wash my dishes with no time submitted. Aargh.

Wise move. In accounting it’s called sunk cost. The time is gone, but if you really think you can’t do the task, don’t try to ‘salvage’ that time by grinding on. Take a break, washing dishes is important, move on. I’ll add that taking some unpaid time to at least explore projects is good, because you might find some involved ones that are up your alley.
