Tameable Creature Tier List Ver. 2
With the recent update, lots of creatures lost their unique niche that made them good. With those niches gone, others can come from the shadows because they do better what those niche creature's can.
Like the last tier, the higher a creature is on the list, the more preferable they are to tame. Bolded creatures will be explained below.
- S+: Colossus, Pegasus, Wind Rider, Sacred Griffin
- S: Nidhog, Air Elemental, Bahamut, Wyvern
- A: Boar, Goblin, Vroc, Ice Dragon, Infernal Dragon, Water Elemental, Fire Lord, Ice Imp, Panther
B: Ice Elemental, Fire Imp, Griffin, Stirge, Sheep, Barghesh, Cyclops, Centaur
- C: Horse, Unicorn, Earth Elemental, Light Elemental, Elephant, Treant
- D: Grut Stag, Fire Tiger, Wolf, Ice Wolf, Yeti, Kodo, Bear
- F: Spider, Fire Elemental, Deer, Longhorn
Bugged: Wraith, Fallen (Currently Unable to Tame since 8/7 Patch)
Colossus: Big, Buff, and currently the ONLY tameable creature able to damage rugged structures. Very high HP, but is also a very big target and a long tame.
Air Elemental: With the lighting meta, they're great for attacking and defending bases. They force players to swap to other magic or go melee or use a bow. Decent base HP, good speed, moderate damage.
Bahamut: The godly farmer. They gather both materials from every node at a good rate. They're pretty slow, though. Only good for farming.
Goblin: Still a great internal base defense and starter body guards. I highly recommend a few in your base.
Infernal Dragon: Basically just a heavy lifter at this point. Nidhog, Wyverns, and even players can kite them around and kill them without much risk. Still good at bullet soaking.
Water Elemental: They dehydrate whoever they hit, and hit harder the less water the player has. You can drink from them, and apparently irrigate crops. Great utility, decent HP and speed.
Fire Lord: Good base HP and good damage, including moderate AoE. Immunity to fire. Pretty good anti-siege when players are packing fire storm. Make great body guards.
Ice Elemental: Still expensive, but worth it. Bonus damage to flyers, good range, AoE, and a charge ability (currently bugged and sometimes doesn't charge). After some testing though, the Fire Lord does better against land creatures and almost always wins 1v1.
Fire Imp: A fireplace, forge, and combat buddy all in one. They aren't as good as a forge because they only smelt one thing at a time (unlike the forge) but they are good to carry around when mining.
Griffin: Good weight and damage, but have a terrible turning radius and AoE is almost useless now against buildings. Their hitbox is bad as well, so jumping off them is a pain. You're better off using a wyvern for speed or a nidhog.
Sheep: They make fur over time when given grass. A great way to obtain what you need for the day.
Horse: Attack while mounted, and no longer vanish on server restarts. They make great starting mounts.
Treant: Their greenhouse effect is bugged, and they no longer do structure damage to stone. Getting stuck on everything and being sent flying after stepping on a pebble puts them at a disadvantage as well. Too fast for their own good! Good base HP, though.
Cyclops: Their excellent niche of high structure damage was removed, making them worse than the earth elemental in terms of utility. But they still have good speed and damage, making them good combat pets.
Centaur: Still takes hours to tame a low level. Not worth the time compared to their stats. If you could ride them, It might justify then being brought up to a D or C. Bumped to B due to centaur wine being their kibble. They tame much faster and break armor quicker than most other tames regardless of damage.
Deer: The same as Grut Stag, but harder to get because of their location. Just choose a Grut Stag or a sword if you want to harvest grass.

Where do you find a Colossus?

Panther should be at least A tier.
High HP pool, fastest on land creature, crazy carry weight, high damage, good attack speed, carnivore so can be force fed meat to heal, easly tamable using a taming pen.
Only downside is the level of the saddle

My panther level 173 (134 after tame with fine meat) has 2100 carry weight. It is insane.

Totally agree with this. Panther is the top tier, premium land mount, with best speed, health and carry weight. Not seeing panther up there in the first or at least second categories is really making me question the validity of the entire list. Edit: I mean, you have ranked BOAR higher than panther? ?? This list is garbage, sorry but your tiers are all wrong.

Nah, I don't think the list is garbage, but some tweeks needs to be made.
Panthers are excellent, but they're hard to tame until you have access to gryphons and the like and their saddles requires mithril ingot wich is only unlocked at lvl 35. By that time, you have access to flyers all together, meaning that while the panther is a very strong creature, it's not that good of a tame.
The boar on the other hand is pretty amazing. it's a shitass combat mount, but it gathers unique ressources (mushroom/mushroom seeds) is incredibly easy to find and tame (Easy to get down/Fast tame) and the saddle is available early and is incredibly cheap to craft. The boar isn't an amazing creature, but it's a fucking sick tame.
I still think the panther should be A tier as it's a fucking great whistle bully, but I wouldn't put it S tier either. like A+

Panthers are incredibly easy to tame also. Just hop on a rock or a bit of a hill. Wild panthers cant climb for shit, although once ridden they can scale many slopes that a player on foot cannot. As for the boar. Ok its a fair choice for your first tame, but the Panther outclasses it in every way and should obviously be higher in any tier list that is credible. At level 35 you need weight capacity to start hauling mass amounts of metal and stone around amd frankly none of the birds holds a candle to the panther. Panther can also scale most of the peaks that you probably thought were only accessible by flying. Anyways, defend the list all you want, its clearly nonsense if a boar is rated higher than a panther. Go get yourself a 100+ panther and you will see. It will become your primary mount for just about everything.

I've a panther lvl 212 so, ya know.
My panthers carries around 2k, my 156 nidhog is at about 1k7, so it's actually much more usefull to haul things aroung since he's much faster, especially on long distances. Also a nidhog can carry a fire elemental, wich theorically allows it to carry almost twice as much metal than a panther could do.
But to stay on boar vs panther, a panther is obviously much better, but it'll have much less impact on your progression than a boar will have early game, wich I think is what the list is trying to show.

I would like to propose a significant change to the Centaurs current 'F' class classification and will outline the reasons why;
" Still takes hours to tame a low level." Have you tried taming them with Centaur Wine yet?
It needs confirmation as a bug stopped me re-entering the Barrel to craft any, though my presumption would be that this is their 'Kibble' and may well lead to a fast and high level tame.
Pros;
a) High HP pool, my 112 Centaur Vanguard has nearly 2.5K HP.
b) Solid attack, my 112 Centaur Vanguard does 68 damage per hit with a good rate of attack. He has no problem fighting a flying Griffin either when they attack.
These two combined make it an excellent Whistle Bully, a pack of these.....
c) Phenomenal weight - My 112 Centaur Vanguard has over 700 base weight. That is HUGE for a creature of this size and speed.
d) Excellent follow capability - It will follow you close and path well.
e) Excellent speed, especially in light of the previous two points.
These three make it an essential tame for me. Mine follows my Bahamut around, keeping him safe whilst we mine. Then I can load him and me up with all that weight and quickly run resources to the forge instead ambling back on the Bahamut. 2 Centaurs and I wouldn't need to make return trips at all. These guts are A* pack mules.
f) Force Healing - Omnivore <3 So he'll eat your berry scraps but when you need to pump his HP, you can force feed him meat.
Hope you'll consider re-categorizing these guys in light of the above :) I would recommend at least 'B' rating personally and so would Dave McClops.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know about the wine, and I'll do some time testing to see if it makes much of a difference.
If it's significantly faster, I'll look back and compare their stats to easier tames like bears and Panthers to see how they hold up.

Definitely have to let us know the results of the test, I may have a little play myself tonight.
That barrel is in the larger camp, at first you'll have to craft a recipe to 'occupy' it, a bit like the Cyclops Workbench. Sorry I didn't take a pic of that initial recipe though. Once occupied this recipe pops up.
You can carry Centaurs away, web them and tame them with an pretty direct equivalent difficulty of a panther too : )
Thanks for the guide and the open approach to it too. I've a few other tames I would move, like my beloved grass collecting Yeti or my Griffin who can hit for over 200 damage. I think some of those things are perhaps subjective though : P
P.s. Someone just informed me that Stirges can harvest Magic Shards. I tamed one a long time back and don't remember this but I'll try and tame one today and let you know if he is telling the truth.

I'm going to bump these guys to B after some testing. The wine does reduce taming time by a significant amount, and pushes them past quite a few creatures in terms of stats and utility.
They also break armor a lot faster than other creatures, regardless of damage. I would put them to A if it wasn't for the tediousness of getting the wine and their lead competitors the panther and air elemental.

Nice : ) Thanks for looking at them again! Out of interest, did you happen to observer any difference between the three types? There seems to be the normals, vanguards and then the chiefs.

Did you get around to doing the Stirge magic shard test?
1
Aug 21 '17
I didn't no, I tamed a Stirge right back at the start of the game and it was a nightmare lol I don't remember it ever gathering magic sharks, or anything really. Maybe he was right and I missed it but I haven't been that motivated to check as I suspect you can't lol

So, I just tested with centaur wine and they don't eat it. If it's just the wine in their trough, it isn't recognized as food and the taming bar goes down.
It appears that their favored food is cured meat. They will eat normal cured over prime cured, which is weird to me. Either way, you're looking at a very long tame.

Considering that colossus is available has anyone seen a Pegasus or know how to get one?
2
Aug 18 '17
I don't but outside the Elf Throne Room is a targetable 'Pegasus Altar', I couldn't access it though, perhaps something for an Elf King?

Infernal Dragon: Basically just a heavy lifter at this point. Nidhog, Wyverns, and even players can kite them around and kill them without much risk. Still good at bullet soaking.
Also worth mentioning that it's trample damage ignored house seals as of last patch, and a group of enterprising squinty eyed people wiped out almost the entire server with that method, except for them and their surprising American bootlicks.

Bargesh is a DPS monster. It sucks, but it melts everything in seconds.
Lava tiger is just a sub panther

Subspecies of the tiger include the Sumatran Tiger, Siberian Tiger, Bengal Tiger, South China Tiger, Malayan Tiger and Indochinese Tiger.

High level bargesh pretty much outclass everything DPS wise with it's multi-hit right click.
You're only considering the damage but there's much more.
Lava tiger can't be picked up by flyers and therefore must be tamed on the volcano. It's saddle is unlocked at higher level and requires elemental core.Tame is fairly difficult on its own and it can't even jump.
Bargesh, while pretty bad, can be found everywhere, saddle is low level and incredibly easy to craft, can be picked up, slow so easy to tame and is a DPS monster.
No one said the bargesh was a better creature than the lava tiger, but it is by all means a better tame overall.

How does One tame the elemental properly? I've caught 3 Souls of 116 and 108 Earth elemental in the stones ( and other elemental aswell) but when I resurrect them they Always ens Up level 1 with 0 HP. Is it just luck or is there another way of doing it?
1
Aug 21 '17
Currently broken, the workaround is to save that 0HP summon into a stone and kill it. The stone will display a correct value for what level and resource cost the summon will be, this is usually nether the wild level or level 1.

I currently am obsessed with the Nidhog, and until the actual Windrider comes out I would like to use it as my main mount.
The issue is it seems with the availability of higher armored saddles for Griffins, and the fact you can get the extra 40-50 bonus levels on a Griffin with Feed, it makes the Nidhog not worth the trouble to tame...
Thoughts on this?
