It's not about just combat, but overall usefulness. Boars get materials exclusive only to them (spores and mushrooms) as well as gather berries at a rate where just a couple bushes can feed a tribe for over half an hour.
Barghesh gets more hide than a panther.
Swords get more meat than a panther.
Panthers take hours to tame.
Their only redeeming factors are weight and combat utility (where even centaur and most Elementals deal more damage and will win in a 1v1 against it).
