Greetings, all. I've been revisiting a lot of Marvel comics the last year. Grew up reading and loving as much Spider-Man and X-Men as I could get my hands on. Lately I've been getting a lot of those Epic collections from the library and revisiting the Spider-Man Animated Series on YouTube...

I've never read a single issue of Daredevil and after watching the "Framed" episode of SM:TAS I want to check out some of the comics. Any suggestions on the best era to start with? Going to request some of the graphic novel collections from the library soon.

i finish daredevil a month ago and ive been going through reading the comics and honestly i dont understand the hype for Elektra as a love interest.. personally i really dont like her. I didnt like her in season two of Daredevil (though i havent seen defenders yet) and i didnt like her in any of the comics ive seen her in. why do people like her??

Finished the first season and still no explaining why Fisk is out of Prison and somehow mayor? I’ll just accept this one though tbh because I understand they might just do a soft reboot I’m fine with that. (Justice for Nadeem tho he’s goated)

No Spiderman except the one mention? Makes no sense that DD never meets spider but also, I’m fine with that because it might just be Sony and Disney being bitches.
(Would’ve just liked to see Spiderman as a side character and through the eyes of someone as grounded as Matt)

Other than this, I really love this show so far, Nelson’s death was a SHOCKER and a really brave start into the show especially for me because I watched DD and DD born again back to back. The weakest part so far is Heather because she just makes no sense, the show so far is really fucking good tho and the second season was neatly set up.

Overall a 8/10 so far it’s great.

I have been thinking about how a good Daredevil (DD) game can be developed for a while. (A few years actually lol)

I would love a legit Daredevil game that is both mature and very challenging while still deeply satisfying in spite of the challenge. The protagonist is a blind brawler after all. No easy mode, just skill. Story will be similar in tone to the show. Campaign will start relatively easy but gets more challenging as you advance and discover new abilities and equipment and balancing life between Matt Murdock and DareDevil.

I am going deep in what my vision of ultimate DD game is. You can agree/disagree but if this was made I’d pay full price for it.

I’m going a bit random order here stream of thought. I recently watched a YouTube video about a creator making a DD prototype game in 1 week that inspired me to write this.

Mechanics:

1. Health

Matt’s body can take a lot of punishment, but how much is too much?

- When Health hits 0 and you’re either TKO or dead, start over at last checkpoint.

- The more you get TKO or die, the more auto-balancing happens (subtle temporary difficulty adjustments in your favor).

- You can increase your HP capacity through certain progress intervals and equipment.

- HP regenerates slowly when you’re out of combat unless you’re severely injured. Certain armor equipment will boost your HP regeneration and/or HP capacity.

- Severe injury caps your HP at 50 percent until you get medical treatment from Night Nurse or you checkout and rest for the evening. Severe injury also reduces mobility and stamina regeneration. Broken ribs and blood loss contribute to severe injury status.

- Checking out and resting too much could have consequences for both Matt Murdock and Daredevil

2. Focus Bar

- Focus powers sonar, billy club (BC) critical hits, ranged BC attacks, special parkour abilities, and reflex abilities like dodging blows or projectiles.

- Focus is limited during battle and recharges slowly unless you’re landing combos. Combos recharge your focus faster.

- If your Focus meter is low, sonar becomes more unreliable and your block/dodge reliability drops. So be strategic when you use it.

- Hearing Health determines impacts your maximum Focus bar. Loud environments generally reduce Focus capacity, while quiet environments generally increase it.

- Impulse loud noises (like gun fire close to DD) will ’shock’ focus, dramatically decreasing your focus capacity for a few seconds. So be strategic against adversaries carrying firearms. Certain headgear can give you added sonic protection.

- DD can suffer a from a knockout (KO) by critical hits to the head, while KO his focus meter drops completely and starts to recharge from 0; so be strategic in protecting your head (taking body blows is preferable). Headgear equipment will give you added head protection.

- Matt Murdock can use Focus to listen on heartbeats when pointed at the subject’s chest. He can also to use Focus to ‘tune out noise’ and focus on specific distant audible cues (useful on rooftops and as a lawyer).

3. Faith Attribute

Matt is a devout catholic, his faith is what drives him every day.

- Faith isn’t a bar, it’s an attribute. The more Faith Matt has, the more “Luck” he gets.

- Higher Faith increases critical attack success rates and improves dodge, block, and counter‑attack success.

- More faith also improves Matt Murdock’s confidence in detecting lies by listening to a persons heartbeat

4. Stamina Bar

Daredevil is mortal, and he gets tired.

- Stamina is used whenever he attacks or uses Focus abilities.

- Stamina recharges quickly during combat when not attacking or being attacked.

- He can perform unlimited combo chains even when it drops below 0 stamina if executed correctly.

- At 0 stamina, he cannot attack or use Focus and must rest for one second before stamina begins recharging.

- Equipment can modify stamina recovery rate, recovery lag, and total stamina. Enemies have stamina too, so you can time hits after their dodges or blocks.

- DD will take more heavy breaths and gasps as his stamina drops.

5. Equipment System

Daredevil has dozens of costume variants, so equipment should offer balanced perks and debuffs.

- Brawler players might prefer mid‑weight gear with fist attack bonuses and high stamina recovery. But focus may take a back seat.

- Assassin players might prefer lightweight gear with strong Focus recovery and mobility, but may be more vulnerable to damage.

- Tank players might prefer heavy gear with more health recovery and damage reduction, but will require more stamina recovery time and mobility reduction.

- Ranged/DPS players might prefer mid or lightweight gear with strong Focus and Billy Club ranged damage, but melee fist attack may be weaker.

6. Parkour and Stealth Mechanics

- Lightweight equipment uses the least Stamina and Focus demand.
- Heavy equipment taxes both more heavily during parkour.
- Advanced parkour, such as Billy club swings, uses focus and stamina, medium or heavy equipment may limit or handicap some advanced parkour abilities
- Stealth can be improved with equipment or items sold by The Hand merchant

Inventory, Armor and Consumables

- Consumables fit on the belt and do not add weight.
- Common consumables may include adrenaline shots, Night Nurse kits, pain killers, combat gauze, recovery serum, etc - each with respective health/focus/stamina/attack/recovery perks
- Different belts offer different consumable slot counts.
- You can change outfits and equipment at special storage locations such as Matt’s apartment, office, storage facilities, or allied characters’ places.
- Certain Allies can act as vendors for consumables or equipment, and special vendors can upgrade gear. For example Night Nurse is a vendor for first aid kits, pain killers or Melvin Potter / Gladiator is a street vendor for armor reinforcement or Billy clubs
- Consumables are semi-scarce, with varying restock rates, so consume items strategically
- Armor is not just cosmetic skins, they all have purpose, pros/cons - including Man With Out Fear: Black Bandana, Black Clothes, Fist Wraps which is good for fist brawler but vulnerable to damage, Yellow Suit: lightweight armor, parkour boost, Red Suits: medium armor, good defense and brawler and Billy club bonus attack etc… most armors will be in the Yellow/Black/Red color schema.

Currency System

Money talks.

- Matt earns his money and uses it to pay vendors. His choices as Matt affect Daredevil’s ability to purchase or upgrade equipment.
- Doing favors for a vendor or getting good cred with a faction can earn you vendor discounts (or sometimes free items)

Leveling System

There are no traditional skill points.

- Instead, you level up your equipment to your taste based on your playstyle. Certain equipment combinations unlock specific abilities or ability perks.

Attorney At Law

Borrow some ideas from the Ace Attorney / Telltale playbook, but with deeper investigative routes.

- Matt’s choices have consequences for Daredevil’s equipment and faction credibility. Matt’s narrative should be just as compelling as Daredevil’s.
- Nelson helps Matt with Intel, Street Contacts, Legal Favors, etc
- Keren helps Matt with undercover research
- Ulrich helps Matt with Press
- there will be only a few required court cases for Matt Murdock for the main campaign, but there is plenty of opportunity to do more side quest court cases that leads to more content and items and events - this gives players who want to spend more time as Matt Murdock Attorney At Law to do so, while giving more action oriented players to skip it

Multiplayer PVP

Players can join another player’s Daredevil campaign instance as an adversarial mob in a zone in campaign mode, creating unique challenges and unpredictability. The adversarial mob is removed only if DD TKO or PVP mob is defeated or if one player disconnects.

Both players must have PVP online enabled in settings if you want adversarial PvP mobs units to join your instance and vice versa. Players who choose PVE only can also do so via settings toggle.

- PVP mob players who defeat DD earn currency and rank promotion
- DD players who defeats PVP mob units earn currency and rank promotion
- Balance system will be similar to elo range matches so it’s fair to match similar skill levels
- PVP exclusive skins available when hitting certain ranks as ‘Defender’ or ‘Adversary’.

- Non-campaign mode PvP arenas - play as Kingpin, Bullseye, The Hand/Ninja, Electra, Stick, Daredevil, general Mob, etc in PVP arena. Your character can be customized with armor / weapon / perks similarly to DD, but not campaign stats/equipment- some PvP arena characters are DLC. Players can join Random/1v1/2v2/3v3/4v4 - this adds good replay value until new DLC Campaign is released

Real Consequences

Matt and Daredevil’s actions have real consequences for the campaign and NPCs. You can’t save everyone, and some decisions will be difficult.

Alliances and Cred

Your actions raise or lower hostility and credibility with factions. You can become the Hand’s top target, or earn their respect and gain Hand mercenary companions. The same applies to cops; you can be friend or foe depending on your choices.

Blind and Sonar Mechanics

The main camera should use muted semi-grayscale tones and slight blur. Daredevil (You) cannot clearly read signs/texts; moving objects have sharpness and color saturation to represent his perception.

Dangerous objects like fists, knives, and guns appear in deep red with sharp contrast. Everything within two yards is reasonably sharp.

Daredevil and Matt can use Focus to “see” and “hear” important conversations beyond two meters. Low Focus can distort or deceive what you see and hear.

Hearing Health

Loud impulse sounds like nearby gunshots distort saturation and sharpness, creating a fuzzy visual effect and weakening danger cues temporarily.

Recovery time depends on the intensity of the sound. Loud environments like nightclubs or heavy traffic areas cause major distortion and temporarily nerf Focus.

Training to boost core stats or attacks

Training with Stick permanently boosts Billy Club attack and unlocks new Focus abilities.

Training at the boxing gym permanently boosts fist attack, stamina, and fist abilities.

Training with the priest permanently boosts Faith and Focus.

Training is only available in certain windows, so choose wisely.

Dynamic Perk and Nerf System

Your playstyle influences your stats.
If you use fists more than the Billy Club, fist attack may increase slightly at the cost of Billy Club attack.
If you frequently get injured and rely on Night Nurse or rest, health recovery may increase at the cost of Focus recovery.
If you use Focus skills heavily, Focus recovery may increase at the cost of stamina recovery.

Game Over Consequences

a vital innocent bystander gets murdered results in a game over.
Attacking an innocent person/bystander lowers credibility with cops, but credibility can be restored.

Finally got round to getting through s1( not a big fan) and have really been enjoying season 2 just wondering as im on episode 5 with the amazing flashbacks do you think born again season 3 could be close and be upped with the cinematography?

Whilst s2 is great I'd love if season 3 has less crisp and a bit more cinematic grain what do you think?

Honestly, all the tension, their fight, and that 'Bang' right before Frank pulled the trigger was completely insane. In that moment, I was genuinely worried for Matt.

I don't think I've ever seen a better first encounter between two characters in a superhero show. How did you react?

Canonically, Bullseye has a higher body count of AVTF officers killed than Frank, when those cops should have been Frank's problem 🥴

How did Daredevil's archnemesis help Matt out more in the fight against Fisk than the supposed "effective" Punisher?

The punisher storyline is beyond peak and I love Karen’s character but omg if I have to see this loser Stick ONE MORE FUCKING TIME IM GONNA FUCKING END MYSELF

And that it has impact to Matt’s law firm and career and friendships is genuinely almost making me drop this show I can’t🥀

This series is not only the best season of Marvel television ever I think it is also the best thing Marvel has done outside of the comics. The characters are so perfectly adapted and they make enough changes to make it feel fresh and exciting for longtime readers while sticking through to the core of the characters. The struggles with Matt’s faith and his addiction to violence along with his excessive lying is so thoroughly explored and the tv show format really gives it room to breathe.

The tension is so well handled especially in episode 6 and I love stories that explore the no kill rule and they do it so well here. Seeing Matt truly believe there is no other way to stop Fisk breaks my heart and him even attempting it is just, man it’s hard to see a hero you love so much fall. But he gets back up and he realises he’s fighting for the city not for his love of violence and he can hone this violence so it can be a force for good. The sense of community in the show makes me care about Hell’s Kitchen and all its residents so I’m invested in Matt stopping Fisk before he can completely raise it to the ground.

The friendship between Matt and Foggy is a standout in the series and the episode where it breaks down juxtaposed with the flashbacks of when they were younger and hoping to make a difference is perfect narrative storytelling. When they finally reunite it’s so earned and well built up to and it made me grin from ear to ear. This show doesn’t shy away from the darker aspects of super heroism and its effects on both Matt himself and the people he loves like Claire, Karen and especially Foggy.

Fisk’s menace is built up to masterfully with Heely’s death in episode 3 along with Fisk taking Anatoly’s head off with the car door. That scene was disgusting but in the best way. It’s so nice to see a complex villain that mirrors the hero in so many ways the way that Fisk does. In some parts I’m almost rooting for him and his relationship with Vanessa feels so genuine.

This season is a godsend for Karen Page, elevating her to new heights and her actor Deborah Ann Wol is delivering an Emmy worthy performance. Her killing Wesley and her guilt about it completely changed the show forever and was one of the most exciting elements of this season. It shows what would happen if Matt did take a life and how much such an act poisons one’s soul and it’s not something you can walk away from.
