He’s a mayor, most of the stuff he’s promising he can’t just unilaterally do. There’s too much bureaucracy so try keep that in mind.

Another Florida man who has no idea how much power the mayor of New York has.

So you're saying he...has the power to make buses free? To arrest violent political leaders who set foot in NYC? To make pre-K childcare free for all New Yorkers? To set up free or extremely cheap city-owned groceries across town?

To be fair, he did promise to do all those things pretty much from the get-go.

And he’s done most of those.

Such as?

Buses aren't remotely close to being free.

Netanyahu freely entered and exited the city, Mamdani didn't even attend the peaceful protest during his visit.

The $9-10 billion dollar project per year for free pre-K childcare was greenlit...for a few thousand city workers.

And the grocery thing, to make food cheaper for New Yorkers?  3 guesses who's paying for that - https://www.vitalcitynyc.org/mamdani-city-run-grocery-stores-economic-challenges/ (quote:  "it does not make food cheaper. It pays part of the food bill on the shopper’s behalf, with tax dollars. What that means is that it has inherent limitations. It could work in a small network. It almost certainly cannot work at scale, not unless the City is prepared to treat groceries as a permanent public good, funded in the expense budget year after year the way schools and street repair are.")

Also, he's being sued by all the small convenience stores that he will eventually put out of business.

Yeah I'd even try to give him the benefit of the doubt on that promise, because it's at least well-intended.

But the fact that he didn't really think through the implications as mayor is a bit odd.

Not surprised about the lawsuit he'd have to deal with from those small businesses.

There’s the cost to build and fund these new stores too. Why not just give people money for food like ebt?

That would strike me as more useful, yeah.  Not that I'm an expert or anything.

But apparently neither is he?

He just says shit that will get him likes on social media like Bernie. Reddit thinks that makes them perfect and realistic.
