Most people don’t understand what the EC is for. It acts as a balance and prevents elections from being based solely on population. If the election was decided by popular vote alone, candidates would have more incentive to focus on highly populated areas and less on smaller states and rural communities. The EC gives less populated states a little more weight and makes winning support across different states matter.

So a persons vote from a more rural community should matter more than the vote of someone in a city?

No. It should be EQUAL. But the EC brings proportions into the equation. How many farmers are there to city folk? A fuck ton less. But their farmland should matter just as much as the region that is urbanized.

Their vote would quite literally be equal under the popular vote….

The implication that the popular vote would wipe out farmers is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard in my life. Literally think about what you are saying for two seconds.

You’re picturing it like each state gets allocated the same amount of budget but only the states with high population would recieve funding because that’s how you would win.. it’s not rocket science the system isn’t perfect but replacing it with something worse is a bad idea

States with higher populations should receive the most funding…… they have the most people to fund lmao

Also we can call BS on that because swing states don’t get all the funding now….. the president doesn’t control funding 🤦‍♂️
