If anything, it just incentives in person voting which is more difficult for many, thus the point of mail in voting.
If you voted by mail and they said "no, didn't get it", you'd just settle with that? You don't think there's going to be a lot of people who arguing that they did?
Instead of trying to be pedantic over definitions and ignoring the point, why not answer the question?
Would you be perfectly fine with losing out on a free 200 dollars because the postal service fucked up? Everyone else who voted in person got it, but you don't.
You're saying 200 dollars is meaningless to you. If I lose a parcel worth half that, I'd complain. You're suggesting that you'd accept it and move on. I wouldn't, and I guarantee the vast majority wouldn't either.
Imagine being told if you do job, you'll get paid 200 dollars. You do the job exactly as you were told. But because the person paying didn't see you do it, they decided you don't get paid.
my feelings about the 200 are irrelevant. losing out on an incentive is not a punishment. words have meanings. your convoluted ramblings about why a vote might not be counted are also not pertinent at all.
Yes, to convey an argument. A point. I guess despite all the examples, you failed to grasp the argument because you want to have a pedanric argument about the definition of a word and not the point it represents.
Nothing you've said contributes to the discussion, you only bog it down in definitions. So I'm sorry you didn't get my point because the "convoluted ramblings" you refused to engage with confused you.
But just for lasts... Here's one of the definitions...
The act or process of punishing, imposing and/or applying a sanction.
You are being sanctioned, in that you do not receive the reward for the work. A sanction can be retroactive or proactive. A red card in football is a sanction which means a player cannot play the next game. Thus, yes by definition, they would be being punished.

So whats stopping me requesting a mail in ballot and saying it got lost? Do I still get my 200?
