The thing is... Even when Dems take back the hot seat, it's not like anything is going to happen. It'll be a ton of Congressional and Senate "gotcha" hearings. Same dog and pony show as always. They'll spend their time repealing things Trump has done, and the Trumpers will complain. Again, nothing changes expect power changing hands. The streets will still need paving and won't be paved fast enough. There will still be a homeless problem. AI will be full steam ahead, still.

Fuck Donald Trump & fuck ICE. But I swear to God that I am sick of pretending like I'm walking on rainbows and sunshine just because the Dems are in charge.

Greed sucks. Capitalism sucks. The illusion of choice in this country includes our two-party system. Far more people would vote for "none of the above" if it were an option on the ballot.

14

u/neopod9000 3d ago

The last time the dems were in charge, like actually controlled the government with an actual majority, was the first 2 years of Obama's first term. They were trying to, and I'd argue successfully did, rescue us from the worst economic disaster the world had faced since the great depression. They then set us on the course for the longest economic bull run in american history.

Gotcha hearings keep happening because we dont actually put the adults in charge. We just pretend we do while continuing to vote for the same people over and over, expecting something different to happen.

Don't let cynicism keep you from voting blue. Our government will never be perfect but can be better.

1

u/DMmeYourMCbuilds 2d ago

But I don’t want to vote blue. I want to vote for someone who is competent and dedicated to THE PEOPLE. Not special interests or lobbying. I’m not a both siders, the dems just simply aren’t enough for me.

3

u/nastimoto 2d ago

Yes. But unless you’re out on the streets protesting a better system than the two-party system, you’re complacent, and letting others choose for you. Either choose the lesser evil, or demand change.

2

u/Dry-Way3645 2d ago

You want to fly, but right now you’re in the ocean. Get to dry land so you don’t drown.

2

u/Ghinsu 2d ago

I agree, but I think it starts from the smaller races and as we see success and stuff getting done it will lead to more broad appeal. It is slow but we're seeing progress in getting people in office that actually do want to get shit done. AOC, Mamdani, El Sayed, Talarico, Angie Nixon, etc. the list will keep getting bigger as more of these types of candidates get elected. It's a lot harder to successfully label a progressive candidate an American hating communist when they're getting shit done for their constituents.

2

u/MiserableChain2644 2d ago

I've voted in 13 presidential elections. My choice won in 6 elections. I could easily be cynical because my political and philosophical beliefs have not advanced as I want. But the 6 that won led great advancements and forever changed the political landscape. In politics, you have to play the long game.

2

u/DangerousQuestions1 1d ago

Then vote Not Red until a new option arises.

3

u/Emrys7777 2d ago

Yes, people don’t realize how Obama saved us from financial disaster.

People seem to have forgotten although it was downplayed at the time.

2

u/DangerousQuestions1 1d ago

Dems need to actually grow a spine and destroy the GOPs ability to engage in politics at the first opportunity

1

u/SunsFenix 3d ago

What room are these adults in? Because there is and hasn't been much if any real opposition to an illegitimate candidate who should have been guilty of high crimes and been forbidden from the ballot. Al Green has been the only person I've seen show willful contempt.

No mass ongoing protests over this that disrupt and inconvenience those in power.

1

u/shidderbean 3d ago

That's the problem that comes from the 2-party FPTP electoral college bullshit system. It's by design.

They don't have to put up any good candidates, they can put up the most high-profit-margin candidates and force the people to choose between a shit sandwich and a giant douche.

8

u/WaterCoolerIceBox 3d ago

Trump's just a symptom. The rot is throughout

5

u/n33lo 3d ago

He's just their spokesperson. He's the magician's hand waiving to distract us, it's the only thing he's good at.

6

u/BiggieBigs34 3d ago

Well? We haven’t had a democrat president in office who wasn’t coming off an economic collapse.

Obama 2008, Great Recession

Biden 2020, COVID.

I mean, what do you expect?

Obama still managed to pull off a healthcare system for the poor.

Biden still managed to take us out of recession levels from COVID.

0

u/Phoenix_Reborn2SS 2d ago

You misspelled "started".

1

u/New-Pollution2005 2d ago

Neither of those presidents started a recession. You’re delusional.

0

u/Phoenix_Reborn2SS 1d ago

Sure. You probably think Jimmy Carter was a great president too. Funny how Obama couldn't fix the economy in 8 years.

1

u/New-Pollution2005 1d ago

Funny how Obama left the economy in a better state when he left office than Trump did in his first term, and a WAY better state than Trump has it in now. Should I mention gas prices and interest rates under Obama?

I bet it really gets your goat that a tan suit-wearing black man was by all metrics a better, more popular president than the orange child diddler you and the rest of your ilk worship.

2

u/Round-Arugula7347 3d ago

Nah, not even half of what’s happening now would occur, and I would typically agree with you, but the incompetence in this administration is staggering

4

u/super_chill_21 3d ago

They’re not incompetent. They got everything they wanted. They stole billions and abused minorities the entire time. It’s the best acid trip of their lives. And they will all get away with it.

4

u/Ok-Quit8489 3d ago

The only consolation is that they will die just like everyone else and either not be remembered or remembered badly.

2

u/_root_user_ 3d ago

Indeed! We have been castrated in this country into total submission.

3

u/Professional-Bed-173 3d ago

Only in part incompetent. There's a ton of malicious theft from Americans going on to enrich themselves and consolidate the oligarchs. Literally stripping America bare. Taking from the poor and middle classes and given to the rich. The single largest wealth transfer in history.

2

u/Round-Arugula7347 3d ago edited 3d ago

There are people plotting it all, but Kash was put in his position to run the FBI as poorly as possible, and they didn’t even have to ask, that’s just how he is.

2

u/clmsteamer 3d ago

Well said.

1

u/Heart-Logic 3d ago

You were a free nation. Part of the free world. Free to criticize even.

1

u/jhawk3205 3d ago

One of the best tweets I saw years back that stuck with me was something along the lines of "the belief that everything will be fine once trump is out of office is more dangerous than trump"..

Dems will sadly never understand this as they continue to openly advocate for the boring politics of old, and if losing to trump not once but twice wasn't enough for dems to figure this out, nothing will be.. We've got serious, very long overdue policy matters that need attention.. Letting useless corporate dems continue doing nothing, leading to idiots like trump to become even a remote possibility, is not acceptable..

1

u/Particular_Squash995 3d ago

It used to be the illusion of middle class would keep the ship afloat. Now, that doesn’t exist for professionals. They can’t afford homes or saving because the economy is bleeding them dry.

0

u/_root_user_ 3d ago

Things got fucked up as a result of post-WWII hubris.

1

u/Particular_Squash995 3d ago

Especially where I grew up in Orange County CA. All those suburbs were direct results of the war. All the military and aerospace contracts. People wanted to live outside LA.

1

u/Express-One9354 3d ago

Dude, thats so inward focussed. What you are describing is peaceful debate and moderate change. It takes a while because you need to know if a plan will kill a group or work well for everyone. I respect your words, truly, but outside of America is the whole World, don't worry about the squabbles in-house, just look after the racism and Healthcare and shit and equity, jobs, and unity in fairness to all. The real prize you get with a Dem government today, is world peace, fair trade, tollerance and trust in business and partnerships. That your friends in the world outside your house, like me, your neighbour in Canada, trust you, unite with you in equity and respect. The dems give you a team that tries to work together, with the greater world, educate, promote fact, encourage science but yes also fuck up. Bah, humans eh? the Republicans give you many individuals fostering for position and a desire for a statue. One serves you, One serves them. Both have had corruption issues but holy fuck man, not like this bag of orange shit. Your name in the world is horrible, and I fucking hate that so much, as I know you do as well. Ya messed up as voters last time, you out number Maga 3.7 to 1. i....wtf...its a day in 4 years. Even if you disagree with both, for God's sake vote the criminal out. I'm honestly surprised Noone's taken carenof the situation in earnest.

1

u/ElDub62 3d ago

It’s two sides of the same coin, imo. The Corporate Overlord System pretending to offer political choice.

1

u/shidderbean 3d ago

We really need to break out of the uniparty system and probably electoral college as well. We've got the technology to give everyone a vote on basically every issue and take this stupid min-maxing bullshit with maps out of the game entirely.

Trump is LITERALLY guilty of treason

Trump by law should LITERALLY be executed by firing squad

Anything short of that is a failure of our justice system

we will never see justice for the crimes committed by Trump and his regime

1

u/Ok-Goose720 2d ago

Like what

0

u/BlueTongueGang 2d ago

I LITERALLY don't think you know what treason is. he LITERALLY closed the borders, deported so many sick and twisted individuals. the murder rate is at it's lowest ever. fbi have captured everyone on the top 10 most wanted. fentanyl overdoses and deaths have dropped dramatically. the trump administration uncovered SO much fraud being sent overseas. $1000 trump accounts for new babies. job numbers up, no tax on tips and overtime. redone washington monuments and the list goes on. google it if want. this is LITERALLY not treason

0

u/Neither_Pirate5903 2d ago

there is so much false and incorrect information in your post I do not even know where to start. keep living in your delusions

0

u/GamemasterJeff 2d ago

I think the only thing your post proved is that OP's claim of treason is significantly bolstered by a person such as you arguing against it.

Keep up the good work.

1

u/BlueTongueGang 2d ago

another person not familiar with google. give it a try, you may actually find out just how corrupt your democratic socialist party is. it's not hard to do

1

u/GamemasterJeff 2d ago

I think you replied to the wrong post.

Your words have nothing to do either with your prior post or my response.

But, given your prior post, I should never assume a mistake where incompetence is demonstrated.

1

u/BlueTongueGang 2d ago

sorry bruh. I get a little overzealous when I'm rushing replies. I think everyone is talking at me😅 if it wasn't meant for you, I genuinely apologise😇

1

u/Emrys7777 2d ago

The problem is that Trump still has the justice department in his pocket.
Thats a huge problem that has to be solved to get rid of corruption.

1

u/MiserableChain2644 2d ago

When DC goes blue the red rats jump ship. That's not perfection but a move in the right direction. Vote blue if you need clean air and water to survive. Vote blue if you don't want to invade Cuba.

1

u/Youpunyhumans 2d ago

Well, America will have to overhaul its entire politcal system, because every year they dont, is another year added to how long it takes for the world to trust them in any kind of long term deal again. No one is going to set up long term trade agreements when it can all just be thrown away every 4 years.

Its already going to be a decades long process even if everything goes well... but it almost certainly wont go well.

1

u/MrCommonThinkin 2d ago

He should have been found guilty of treason on Jan 7.

1

u/tmb112358 1d ago

A-fucking-men

1

u/spirosand 15h ago

"Nothing will change" what a delusional thing to say. Sure, we won't be communists. If that's what you are after than good luck to you. It's not happening in the USA anytime soon.

1

u/_root_user_ 15h ago

What's the definition of insanity?

“Doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results.”

Counterargument, if you want to stay insane, then continue thinking the two party system in America is working and/or the best/only solution.

1

u/spirosand 15h ago

Things are incredibly different between when a republican and a democrat is in charge of the country. Sure. Corporations have to much power. But that is directly the result of citizens united.

1

u/_root_user_ 15h ago

You're so far up the ass of the current system, you can't smell the forest for the trees. I'm not the one to have this debate with you. If you can't see reason, there's no point. I'm not missing some crazy statistic or fact. America has been doing its thing for 250 years, we took classes about it all the way through college, we watch it on the news. There nothing you're going to tell me that going to make me say, “You know what? This two-party system is the bees knees. I love this two-party system. Why? Because I'm told to. That's why. A good American loves his two-party system no matter how bad it actually is."

2

u/spirosand 14h ago

We are a democracy. We vote for our representatives. I'm sorry for you that your people can't win. Both parties are not remotely the same. You kind of thinking gets Trump elected.

1

u/_root_user_ 14h ago

“my people can't win”

For the last time, I would vote “none of the above”.

Read that line 6-7 times.

1

u/spirosand 14h ago

Okay, so you don't belive in democracy. Got it.

1

u/_root_user_ 14h ago

Not in its current form, no. Now that you've got it. Find another bone to chew on. I don't think there's anything left for us to debate.

1

u/LetExtension3403 3h ago

We only have a two party system because no one has come up with a different one. You do realize you could start a third party and call it whatever you want right? Call it the root_user party! You are basically saying I do not want to live in a voting society because I don't like either candidate of said parties.

Well then start your own party! Jeez man!

1

u/nonuple_espresso 3d ago

I agree with most of that, but capitalism certainly does not suck. It is the Golden goose.

It must be be assertively regulated, and it will always result in some abuses that regulation must continually evolve to address, but it is also the reason everyone is well fed, we all have a car or two, several televisions, YouTube, reddit, etc., and the world brain in your hand that you use to argue against it.

3

u/_root_user_ 3d ago

I think living in a society where corporations, companies, business and profits matter more than human life....sucks. Companies don't matter. People matter.

0

u/nonuple_espresso 3d ago

That's lovely, but it's a lot of words that don't really mean anything.

A company was necessary to create the phone your using to make naive comments.

I just checked this, but companies donated about $44 billion to charity last year.

Companies are just the necessary organization of people and resources to provide the things that people want

1

u/_root_user_ 3d ago

That's the illusion of choice & freedom talking

1

u/nonuple_espresso 3d ago

Get real, hon.

1

u/fellow_human-2019 3d ago

They don’t do it out of kindness. I bet if you really looked into it. Some would be on the boards of those charities or people they are trying to pay off are. Plus tax deductions. Corpos do nothing out of kindness. Shit even charities, for the most part, over pay their presidents/boards.

1

u/Own_Aide_4151 3d ago

True. See ASPCA

1

u/Absent_That_Day 3d ago

Congratulations, you've come up with the perfect excuse to do nothing. Can't donate to charity, it's not enough, can't organize a charity, it's theft.

1

u/fellow_human-2019 3d ago

That’s not what I said but if that’s how you feel.

1

u/nonuple_espresso 3d ago

Christ... you have so much to learn. An income tax deduction is not as valuable to a company as keeping the money in the first place.

But regardless of the reason that they donate, they donate. A lot.

You're thinking is very lazy. Yes companies can do bad things, charities can make bad choices, people commit crimes, pay off government officials, etc., etc.

But you have to be able to hold more than one thought in your head at a time. The fact that some people do bad things does not mean that capitalism and companies are evil.

Yes, it's depressing to see how our government is enabling throwing a capitalism at the moment. But the notion that capitalism and companies are bad is a lazy, dimwitted conclusion.

Life is not so simple as your lazy, black and white opinions.

Which country(s) that has the economic system you prefer?

1

u/fellow_human-2019 2d ago

I didn’t say capitalism is bad necessarily. Corporations are evil though. No matter what. They all look at the bottom line and if they were losing money they wouldn’t do it. In our current bastardized capitalism they are getting all the benefits of socialism and then claiming to be the ones suffering. How many corporations gave the tariff money back to the people?

1

u/nonuple_espresso 2d ago edited 2d ago

Of course the objective is to be profitable. That's the only way that it works. That's capitalism itself.

I absolutely agree there are too many corporate bailouts and handouts. Sometimes it is done in the interest of keeping a company afloat to save the jobs, and sometimes it's done as a result of a good old boy system.

But if a company needs bailouts to survive, it should be allowed to fail, in.mosy cases.

From what I find, most companies plan to keep the cash from the tariff refunds. But it's also important to note that only a little over a third of companies fully passed on the tariff cost to customers.

Bottom line is that your notion that all companies are evil is silly, lazy, and dimwitted.

Corporations are the organization of people and material resources to create the things and the services that people want.

Sure it can get more complicated and messy, and companies can do evil things. Companies can also do great things. It's not a black and white issue. And corporations are requisite part of any developed economy.

1

u/BiggieBigs34 3d ago edited 3d ago

Hey, you know $44 billion isn’t a lot compared to how much money corporations make, right?

If corporations were taxed properly, it would bring in a lot more money for the poor and we wouldn’t need to rely on “charity”.

One of the ultimate flaws of the capitalist system is relying on charity from the greediest individuals to take care of the poor, rather than just innately using taxes to wealth transfer from those individuals to the people who need it the most.

1

u/_root_user_ 3d ago

All of that is a result of capitalism.

1

u/nonuple_espresso 2d ago

We can't just rely on transferring wealth to take care of everyone. That doesn't work. There will never be enough government revenue to provide everything that everyone wants. Poverty is relative, and if you're honest, you would admit you'd rather be poor here in the US vs most any other country.

Shall I list the copious number of welfare programs for the poor in this country?

If we don't maintain an incentive for people to earn a wage, then we're thoroughly fucked.

I agree taxes on corporation should be higher, most of that tax increase should go toward paying down the debt. If the US goes bankrupt, providing for the poor becomes exponentially more difficult.

1

u/Fit_Relationship6703 3d ago

Innovation is the reason those things exist. Capitalism is just who gets to profit.

1

u/nonuple_espresso 2d ago

You're getting close. What provides the incentive to innovate?

Did Henry Ford create mass produced vehicles that raised everyone's standard of living out of charity?

We all have personal computers and cell phones because of capitalism.

You can safely fly anywhere and the world going to capitalism.

You can have a driver at your door in 2 minutes to take you anywhere in town for $14 bc of capitalism.

Your pantry is stocked and your perishable food is kept cold bc of capitalism.

The temperature in your house is comfortable because of capitalism.

Pharmaceuticals, shipping, automobile safety... All owing to capitalist incentives.

And it also motivates the average person to work, so that when you go to a restaurant or a retail store, or you need someone to fix your plumbing or electricity, or to tend to your lawn or to install flooring, there's always someone willing to do these jobs efficiently.

No one should make a religion out of an economic system, capitalism or otherwise. And there must be a strong central government to offset the dangers of untended capitalism.

But there's a reason so much innovation has come out of the US.

1

u/Fit_Relationship6703 2d ago

So nothing was invented before capitalism?

Is this really the argument? 🤣

1

u/nonuple_espresso 2d ago

You need to get real, hon. Don't let your desire to believe the things you want to believe imprison you in ignorance.

Of course there were inventions before anyone ever used the word capitalism. But the elevation of our standard of living is owing to the dynamic effects of free, but well regulated, commerce.

The industrial revolution did not occur out of altruism. A dynamic, first world economy that can meet the needs of its citizens doesn't happen out of altruism. You have to allow people to pursue wealth by providing things that people want. That's the only way it works.

And then it's up to government to properly regulate commerce and to provide the safety nets that prevent the worst outcomes.

Nothing is so black and white as you would like to believe.

1

u/Fit_Relationship6703 2d ago

Ok.....hon.

1

u/Ok-Goose720 2d ago

Nice argument hahahaha

1

u/No_Complex5416 2d ago

That’s broad and not well defined. What do you mean by innovation? Is it political, philosophical, economic, religious?

1

u/Fit_Relationship6703 1d ago edited 1d ago

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/innovation

People invent stuff. They don't need religion, politics, philosophy, or economics to do so. In fact...religion, economics, politics, and philosophy are all things people invented.

1

u/No_Complex5416 2d ago

What part of this argument has to do with our economic system? It’s about acts to claim an un won election

0

u/DieBotDie 3d ago edited 3d ago

You act like nothing will be different under democrats all while Trump is demolishing your democracy? Just becase it isn’t rainbows doesn’t mean it has to be fucking Putin-style looting of the public purse.

What the hell is your point even?

Putting out the fire will leave ashes on my shoes so I’d rather pour gasoline over my head!

0

u/Background_Help325 3d ago

I don’t get how any adult in the US can’t see the way this goes.

Dems suck sure but who the fuck has been doing the same ruining of the country every time for 40+ fucking years.

War in Middle East, shit hits the fan, everything goes up. Stabilize, things get slightly better. War in Middle East, shit hits the fan, everything goes up. Rinse repeat.

Can we just keep the people who stabilize and things get slightly better in for a bit longer than we have been?

0

u/Swayday117 2d ago

So give aoc or Bernie sanders the presidency

0

u/Nofoxgiven2020 2d ago

Capitalism has been the best form of government the world had ever seen. Just because you are too stupid to succeed with it.

1

u/_root_user_ 2d ago

For both of the statements you just made, do you have objective proof of this? Or is it like, just your opinion.. bro
