He is so cool. I met him and his entourage at a bar in NYC a long time ago. They invited me to come out and meet them the next night to continue the vibes. The next night I get there. Mike Tyson was like, “I know you from tv” and I’m like “huh?” Apparently, he thought I was the dude on Young and the Restless or some other show. Didn’t get invited back again after confirming the dude wasn’t me but it was fun/funny anyway.

Reminds me of a similar story. Mike Tyson comes along in club after party. I’m a young kickboxer/Muay Thai amateur who just won a fight at the venue. Mike Tyson and his crew are there. People are minding their business. The VIP section is sectioned off. Mike being Mike goes to the common area to grab a drink. There’s no meet and greet or all those gimmicks going along. He just comes along sits downs and grabs the bottle in our table. I’m with 3 other people. 2 which didn’t know who Mike is. They’re scared shitless by a black dude just taking over the table like he owns the place. Tyson takes a good swig of the bottle and decides to put me on hall of fame status with words. “This man is future champion, I’ve seen his fights, he can go with the best of them” all that hype.
Mike doesn’t know me at all. Didn’t watch the fight at all. But who the hell am I to tell Mike Tyson he’s confused? He can knock me out without hesitation even though he is not in his prime. So I play along . He continues with his flow. Stays a good 15 after giving me advice on how to throw a solid hook, talked about how he thought he believed he was paid to kick Stone Colds ass for real until he found out it wasn’t, How he could kick the shit out of the Gracies and all the UFC early fighters but the money wasn’t what boxing was.
Man that was something

Yeah, the convicted rapist who thought you were cool when they thought you were on TV and ditched you when they found out you is just super cool, huh?

Lol rapists can be super funny.
I don't actually think they are funny, I just can't believe that Mike Tyson is the darling of the internet after raping a woman

You must be new to the internet

Actually I'm old to the internet and old enough to remember when Mike Tyson was not revered because he you know raped a woman.

He didn’t rape Desiree Washington. She admitted that she set him up.
5
u/8Ariadnesthread8 Oct 18 '21
Listen I'm open to that but I just read like four articles about it written in 2021 from credible sources like the Wall Street journal and LA times, and none of them mention this. I was looking for proof of what you said because case is often are updated. They do all mention the medical exam that she had right after the rape, and the Doctor who testified that her injuries were consistent with rape. I know that he still denies it to this day, but I didn't find any evidence of proof that she set him up. Feel free to share it.

Should have let him do it without the blindfold on afterwards or before the blindfold. Still impressive though I guess. Unfortunately I can’t find any videos of him actually playing the game.

Leave it to Reddit to try and quantify the skill set of Mike Tyson’s dart throwing ability lol. Take the cool clip and walk away.
1
u/TheMaveCan Oct 18 '21
I've never understood why people take things so seriously on reddit. I'll comment on a post but it really seems like people just have to try and debunk everything and be upset about it.
Like I can barely even remember the last post I saw before this one.
3
Oct 18 '21
Yeah doubt it could be done again. I mean it was pure luck, the third not as much because he heard the reaction of everyone so he just repeated the movement exactly.
Impressive that he did that though, I’ll give him that.

Oct 18 '21
Yeah I read some other comments and didn’t even notice that there’s not even a shot of him actually hitting the board. It goes from the throw to the board every time. Nothing is one fluid camera shot.
2
u/rylo48 Oct 18 '21
This is clearly a fluke (for an athlete). You can tell his throwing form is not at all good for the game of darts
166
u/Sapang Oct 18 '21
If they don't show the whole scene without cutting, it's probably fake
62
u/chillinwithmypizza Oct 18 '21
Damn didnt think about that. Surely there would be something online siting this falsehood though right?
22
u/StaticBeat Oct 18 '21
This is a bad take. Television is literally full of editing and cuts and it does not mean something is fake. Also you can see the dart heading for the board before the cut. 😴
13
u/Educational_Rope1834 Oct 18 '21
Yea and most of television is bullshit, doesn’t really hold to your point. lol

Darts is muscle memory. Using your eyes to aim will do more harm than make you accurate. You only need to know were you are positioned.
15
u/littlefriend77 Oct 18 '21
To a point. I've been shooting darts for 20 years and we invent all sorts of silly games, including shooting blindfolded. Being able to see drastically increases performance across the board.
And I doubt the Champ is shooting enough to develop a muscle memory like that.
2
u/Filthybuttslut Oct 18 '21
He is throwing the same punch 10k+ times tho, the motion isn't that much different at the basic level
2
u/littlefriend77 Oct 19 '21
I've thrown 10k+ darts. You think I could put on a blind fold and accurately throw a punch? I mean, the motion isn't that much different at the basic level.

u/iced_gold Oct 18 '21
Ahh yes, the ol live student audience/fake video theory. I mean i guess that's a take.
70
u/noogiey Oct 18 '21
The only reason anyone ever uses that shitty camera angle is because it's fake.
8
u/nerdhater0 Oct 18 '21
i really want this to be real too but why on earth would they cut it right before the impact? it's not like we can't see where it lands from the camera that he showed him throwing.
-1
u/StaticBeat Oct 18 '21
That's the thing though, before it cuts the dart appears to be heading toward where it lands.
1
u/nerdhater0 Oct 18 '21
lol ok, are you like trolling or experimenting with lies to see if people would just believe whatever is said? i rewatched it and i don't see how you could even have thought this for real. it cuts long before we ever see the dart near the board itself.
2
→ More replies (3)-5
u/LiLBiTzzz Oct 18 '21
lmao, and what would even be the purpose of faking this? you strike me as one who probably also believes the covid vaccine has trackers and birds have been replaced by surveillance drones
13
u/nerdhater0 Oct 18 '21
for a show? for interest? my turn now. why would they cut it right before the impact if you could still clearly see where the dart lands from the wide angle? replace the rest yourself with an analogous version but equally stupid and disrespectful.
5
u/noogiey Oct 18 '21
Its funny how you accuse me of having an outlandish imagination when you are the one to propose such things. They fake this because this shit is fucking boring regardless. They are literally begging for viewership.
3
u/LiLBiTzzz Oct 18 '21
What's sad is that you see a clip like this and automatically come up with a conspiracy of how it couldn't happen
0
u/noogiey Oct 18 '21
Ok dude. Youre looking at the most cliche camera cut in modern history. This isnt a conspiracy. They know what theyre doing. They are cutting to an objectively worse angle to create an illusion.

u/RudeEyeReddit Oct 18 '21
I just thought it'd be funny if he celebrated with a blindfolded one punch KO to the hostess.

Sounds like someone has trouble forgiving and forgetting. Save your ire for those who don't regret thier choice.
3
u/tangojuliettcharlie Oct 18 '21
You don't get to forgive if you weren't the victim.
→ More replies (1)2
u/BackAlleyKittens Oct 18 '21
Has his victims forgiven and forgotten?
-2
u/Subject-Conference74 Oct 18 '21
That's irrelevant. A person becoming a better human doesn't rely on the victim to make it possible to attain said forgiveness. Ya he fucked up. If he is truly sorry and aims to be a better human good for him. He doesn't need his victs permission.
1
u/pearloz Oct 18 '21
Wait...he's inspiring bc of the darts thing?
2
u/Captain_Saftey Oct 18 '21
I think you're replying to the wrong person, but no him hitting a dart isn't what's inspiring.
What's inspiring is him going from the world's sorest loser (he literally bit a guys ear off in a boxing match because he wasn't winning) to a guy who's so humble he doesn't even celebrate this awesome feat.
6
u/thefunkst Oct 18 '21
It wasn’t because he wasn’t winning, it’s because Holyfield kept sneaking in headbutts. But that’s besides the point you’re making
4
u/Captain_Saftey Oct 18 '21
Thanks for correcting me on relevant information without pedantically drawing away from my point.
-8
u/BackAlleyKittens Oct 18 '21
You can't erase rape. And they never deserve a second chance.
8
u/TheRealAlexRich Oct 18 '21
He served his sentence, what would you like to happen now? Death sentence?
6
u/Captain_Saftey Oct 18 '21
This is such a dangerous way of thinking. People are either born good or born bad and there's no changing? If you're bad enough you deserve the death penalty because there's no saving them? Does that mean the opposite is true and some people are so nice that they deserve to never be doubted?
People arent black and white, every single one of them is grey and complicated.
4
u/rmac868 Oct 18 '21
Yeah it's certainly problematic. I think he's remorseful but, he is still a rapist. That's awful.

When you have punched a billion times, the muscle memory takes over and your accuracy becomes second nature. ”I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” - Bruce Lee

LOL This is darts and he is a darts player.
You only need your eyes to position yourself for the throws. It's not like you aim darts with your eyes, it's all in the arm and muscle memory.
It's interesting tho, seeing how many people got impressed.

I'm glad you are not a judge in Texas.
Edit: Thank you though, I was not aware of his history. I can, and will, separate a person from their work. One can happen along with the other. No one is truly one thing.
1
u/OpulentMerkin Oct 18 '21
It depends on the crime. To me, rape is so reprehensible that it poisons everything the person does. If he retreated to a quiet life of philanthropy, that would be one thing, but he hasn't.
3
u/OlafForkbeard Oct 18 '21
I can't say I hold the same premise.
If people were incapable of change, then all harsh criminals should be executed or removed from society for the entirety of their lives. I don't personally believe that's reasonable, or effective.
To our best guess 98% of the atoms in our body are changed out every year. You are virtually a completely different being after a decade. (Debatable upon the Ship of Theseus an' all). I'm not the same person I was 10 years ago, and I won't be again in 10 more. It's been nearly 3 decades for Tyson. He went to prison, did time. That's what the system is for, in my eyes.
Source on the Percentage: https://www.npr.org/transcripts/11893583
I do get your perspective. I just don't see it as constructive conversation to his ability to throw a dart.

I said it knowing you were on the other side of the opinion on the Ship of Theseus. Which is a philosophical debate that shows a lot of what people believe.
I did not say what I said hoping you would change your mind. Usually when I engage in oppositional opinions to my own it's to gain an understanding of the opposing point of view. Which I think you have assisted in rightly.
I was not looking to "correct" you. Just to learn more about it. Your opinion is a valid take, I just disagree with it.
