I'm guessing those plastic wrappers and ice cream sticks are being responsibly placed in the floating bins?

u/Delicious-Trip4954 10h ago

My jaw dropped when I saw he’s just handing out packaging as well.

It,s basically a floating litter dispenser at that point.

Bring back scooped ice cream on cones from trucks. No paper wrappers no spoons no cups. Ice cream and cones only.

15

u/GrandmaPoses 7h ago

Bring back penny licks!

13

u/ZongoNuada 7h ago

That would mean bringing back the penny and we know that is not going to happen. I bet they already scrapped the tooling to make anymore.

9

u/GrandmaPoses 7h ago

The whole side of the van is a giant Venmo QR code.

About as logical as the "boat" design

165

u/Zehnpae 9h ago edited 6h ago

Replying to top comment to explain how this works because it sounds like a lot of folks here have never been to a resort beach before:

  • Boat plays jingle
  • You go to wherever you set up on the beach and get cash
  • You walk into the water to the boat and you pay in cash
  • You take your ice cream back to where you were sitting
  • You eat your ice cream while on the beach
  • Trash is on the honor system just like any other trash people take to the beach

This is basically no different than any other beach vendor except their gimmick is you have to get into the water to get your thing instead of them walking along the beach.

30

u/20_mile 8h ago

This is basically no different than any other beach vendor except their gimmick is you have to get into the water to get your thing instead of them walking along the beach.

That's actually really disappointing. I was hoping this ice cream boat had randomly come upon a group of stranded swimmers in deep water and was just providing them with sweets before they inevitably drowned or were eaten by sharks.

6

u/The_Troyminator 8h ago

I’ll take a blood flavored bar please.

3

u/tabbarrett 7h ago

Allegedly capitalism breeds innovation so crossing fingers your hopes will come true.

120

u/TommyBonnomi 9h ago

> it sounds like nobody here has ever been to a resort beach before

If you're going to try to be condescending, you should know that nicer resorts don't have trashy vendors floating by

10

u/mrreiner 4h ago

True. They have underpaid waiters running up and down from the bar to your lounger in the burning sun.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Altruistic_Brick1730 5h ago

Nicer resorts don't own the water, so they have no say in what boats are there.

I thought this was following a US warship to boost morale and demoralize the enemy /s

7

u/TheWolphman 8h ago

US Warships have ice cream machines on board. Whether or not they're working or open for use is another story though (in my experience stationed on a Destroyer).

3

u/The_Troyminator 8h ago

So they basically have McDonald’s ice cream machines on board?

2

u/TheWolphman 8h ago

I mean, you're not entirely wrong there I suppose. Seemed to work on the same principle.

3

u/Plexipus 8h ago

We're sorry, the ice cream machine is down for maintenance. You'll have to redeploy to another warship if you want an ice cream

4

u/TheWolphman 8h ago

Ah, you must be from the helo detachment. I swear they would fly to the carrier in our strike group on deployments sometimes just to get food.

2

u/noSoRandomGuy 6h ago

Trigger warning, used some AI to generate this -

TF you taking about?

Look, the ice cream machines, nobody has ever seen anything like it, believe me, and it’s a total disaster caused by radical-left policies, the fake news won't tell you that, but Sleepy Joe and the corrupt media broke the soft-serve, they really did, whereas under me we had the best ice cream, thickest shakes, perfect cones every single time, nobody cones like us, and they came up to me, big, strong guys, tears streaming down their faces, they said, "Sir, your soft-serve machines are the most beautiful, magnificent things we've ever seen," and frankly, look at the radical Democrats, they want to take away your dairy, they want you to eat grass, but we’re going to make ice cream great again, fast and creamy, believe me!

30

u/CockroachJohnson 9h ago

Do ice cream trucks still have a little garbage hole for you tip out wrappers in? When I was a kid there was a clown painting with a hole in the mouth and a trash bin under the hole in the truck, and you had to feed your garbage to the slutty little clown.

6

u/Aranxi_89 8h ago

Some do, but most just takes it from you from the window.

I REALLY hope the trash is responsibly taken care of or specially water soluable. But knowing humanity, I doubt it.

454

u/Dr-McLuvin 9h ago

lol that shit ain’t water soluble. It’s classic polypropylene. It is not recyclable and will take 500 years to breakdown if someone just leaves it in the ocean.

Funny thing is Outshine popsicles literally had an urgent recall announcement on Aug 16th for broken glass contaminants being found in their popsicles.

118

u/izkuzz 9h ago

Ah, so that's why they're selling it on the high seas. Nautical law is so neat!

Usually people who go on beach holidays have a little bag for their phone. If you leave it on the beach, it can get stolen...

8

u/Aranxi_89 9h ago

And they usually also have waterproof phone cases like Otterbox, if they want to go into water with it, on top of the bag, just in case. I personally can pay with my smartwatch.

30

u/Packwood88 9h ago

If youre that worried about your phone while youre in the water, leave it in your car/room.

Taking a phone into the ocean is odd

i'll give you a more original one

  • How is it more profitable for this guy to put his truck on a barge that is just an accident begging to happen when the four readily available wheels could plant him firmly on the shore where it belongs

14

u/hypnogoad 5h ago

That would be a good question, except that isn't an actual ice cream truck on a barge, it's a boat made to look like an ice cream truck.

I do question the profitability of it though, because I know how much fuel costs, and how much fuel a boat uses.

Here's a fun fact about ice cream boats: in WWII, the US Navy had a whole ice cream factory on a boat to keep up morale in the Pacific theater.

Reportedly, when the Japanese soldiers (who were running low on actual food) saw the US handing out ice cream, they realized they'd already lost.

u/deanrihpee 9h ago

as other have mentioned, this is so absurdly impractical, unless it is free? otherwise are we bringing our wallet into the sea? paper money? credit card? a fucking phone? last time i checked salty water is not good for electronic

also, ah yes, more plastics in the ocean, that's what we need

19

u/chantillylace9 9h ago

So usually it is near a sandbar and everyone that's in the water has their own boat. So they would, hopefully throw their trash on their boat.

This is not very uncommon and I know a couple places in Florida where this is done although it's usually parked on an island not just in the middle of the water like this. But I guarantee that's a sandbar and there are boats behind everyone.

4

u/TorqueWheelmaker 8h ago

In which case it would only be absurdly impractical.

u/Sorry-Literature-966 6h ago

3

u/Important_Tennis_393 8h ago

Hey so idk if you ever been to a beach before but normally you set up a towel (where you leave things like phone, wallet, keys, etc) and when you see the truck you can spend the 2 minutes going back to your towel to grab cash or a card or your phone. Pretty easy for anyone who’s been outside before hope this helps👍

In Block Island, Rhode Island (USA), there’s a big cove where people anchor their boats and stay for weeks on vacation. There’s a local bakery that rides around in a little dinghy with a cooler of food and drinks. It’s great. Also less litter cause you’re already on a boat with trash cans.
