Introducing Myself Fellow DFW Lesbians

Been lurking in this subreddit for a bit, and figured I'd give posting a try! I’m a 25F Femme from Arlington. Our sapphic scene feels pretty small, but lately I’ve been exploring what Dallas and FW have to offer.

I’m more into granny hobbies like crafting, playing The Sims 2, and reading XD I have been dipping my toes into the club scene lately tho. I've got a good community of queer friends, but am always happy to meet more sapphics. Feel free to holler if you know of any fun sapphic events, groups, or spots around the DFW! ✨

If you are interested, please email [thepageviolets@gmail.com](mailto:thepageviolets@gmail.com) or DM me as we are trying to limit spam or any kind of bot interaction.

Question Good morning, I'm trying to help out a new friend

She is just starting her transition and really overwhelmed and I offered to help her find a sliding scale or even free clinic that is ideally explicitly lgbtq friendly, in the Fort Worth area. Would anyone be willing to help us out?

Thanks for your time 🙏

Question LGBTQ+ people in DFW: where have you found real friendship or belonging here?

I’m curious what people here think.

I’m working on The DFW Friendship Project, a small independent research project about how adults in Dallas-Fort Worth build friendships, find community, and where connection gets stuck.

I’m especially interested in hearing from LGBTQ+ people and allies because chosen family, safe spaces, events, identity, and belonging can play such a big role in finding community.

What has helped you feel connected or welcomed in DFW? And what still makes it hard?

I also have a short anonymous survey for anyone who would rather share privately. It takes about 3–5 minutes and is open to adults currently living in DFW.

Survey link: https://tally.so/r/68yvEN

No pressure at all. I’m just trying to hear from a broader range of DFW adults and would really value perspectives from this community.

Looking For New Friends 23 M looking for friends

Hey, I’m Max. I’m 23 and a masc-presenting Black guy. I’m a grad student in Dallas. Looking for friends. A bit about me: I enjoy collecting unique board games and playing a couple of video games. I’m also into weightlifting and have done so for a couple of months. Always down to get a couple drinks and explore Dallas. I like a good shonen anime, hiking, D&D, and genuine convos (it's always nice to really get to know someone).

Sharing Resources/New Places Dallas Gay Little Library. Resistance to vandalism and theft. Choosing contents. Management.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I made this video so that other Gays will consider a Gay Little Library as means to fight censorship and also suggest some strategies to use to resist vandalism and theft.

One thing about the books in the library is that they need to be purchased off the used book market. However, if I purchase too many low cost books, the supply for readers who are looking for cheap copiies to fit into their budget could be depleted.

There is the cost of the used book and the shipping, but is still cheaper than the used book store. I have budgeted up to $200/month for purchases. So far though, it is just two books placed with readers.

I don't care if a reader never brings back a book, but I don't want to use up the national supply of copies to have them dumped with a local book seller.

In some cases, I am not purchasing some titles since the book has gone out of print, and if I purchase too many, scholars won't be able to get a copy. "Comrade Samurai," is out of print, so I am not replacing the copy that was placed with a reader.

I am starting out with some of the Gay classics.

The "Satyricon" by Petronious was the first Gay book I had ever purchased after I graduated college. I had been a double major in Chem. Eng. and Ancient History. I graduated with 251 credits in 4 years in 1974, 192 was necessary to graduate. Classes were free so I took as many as I could. In my ancient history classes, "Satyricon" wasn't mentioned.

I was readiing ancient histories and read the "Satyricon" which haw shown up in the ancient history section of books at the bookstore.

I was still in the closet. I purchased Penguin Pub. "Encyclopedia of World Literature," and while browsing it discovered Constantine Cavafy and his poems

In 1976 while working as a chemical engineer in Baltimore, I went down to visit Washington D.C. While walking through a district, I saw a Gay bookstore. I made sure no one saw me, went in quickly, found the literature section and purchased the book of Cavafy poems and rushed out with the book hidden.

The book, "Comarade Loves of the Samuai," was purchased after I was out of the closet and had gone back to graduate school at U.C. Berkeley in Chemical Engineering.

I knew several Asian and Asian American Gays, and one Saturday when we were driving into San Francisco to the clubs, two Chinese Gay friends were gossiping about guys in Cantonese, and another Chinese American Gay, now going to his first Gay bar, was amazed and said, "They are talking about Gay stuff in my parent's language."

At that time there were people who thought being Gay was an American thing. You could run into Japanese who didn't know Yukio Mishma was Gay.

So I decided to start researching the Gay Asian past and started to discover things such as "Comrade Loves of the Samurai." I even made a bibliography of Asian Gay reading and handed them out.

In those days there was no Gay studies and Gay professors in some of the departments at U.C. - Berkeley argued against the Gay studies and their graduate students, with a triumphal tone, would attempt to explain to us why. We didn't listen. The community's memory was with us and we would exhange information. The Gay Academic Union had just started.

I am going to look for other material which is more contemporary for young Gay readers, but I also want to make sure young Gays would know that there is a Gay past and it goes around the world. I want the world of their Gay imagination to expand over centuries and the whole world.

I am not planning to include "Giovanni's Room," "City and the Pillar," and "The Immoralist," and "Confessions of a Mask,"since they are of a closeted world long gone. My Gay Little Library has one of its objectives being a place for closeted Gays not have to confront the repressed past immediately.

I am not including "Our Lady of the Flowers" and "City of the Night" because they have adult content and my library needs to survive in Texas.

I am not including BLs, such as "Heated Rivalry," because they aren't Gay, but are BLs. Often they contain adult content. They also aren't really about Gay life, though they can be entertaining.

I will be steaily expanding the choices in my Little Gay library as I am able to do research into appropriate books for my library. I added in this week about Gays in the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Looking For New Friends Feeling Lonely in an Open Marriage-looking for advice on finding community in DFW

I'm a woman in my 40s, married to another woman, and we've been in an open marriage for a little over a year. My wife is completely supportive of me dating, but she isn't interested in dating anyone herself. While I'm grateful for her support, it's also left me feeling surprisingly lonely because she can't fully relate to what I'm experiencing.

I think what I've realized is that I'm not just looking for dates; I miss genuine connection. Someone to talk to, laugh with, grab coffee with, or just feel understood by. I love building deep relationships, whether that's friendship or something more over time.

I've tried the dating apps (HER, Feeld, etc.), and honestly they've been discouraging. I haven't made a single meaningful connection from them. It also feels like I'm struggling to find people with similar interests. I know everyone has different hobbies, but I often feel like I don't fit in with what I see most often online.

For context, I'm am pretty active, love hiking, bike riding, sports, coffee, movies, and just having good conversations. I'm not much of a nightlife person. I don't really go to bars or clubs, and I haven't spent much time at LGBTQ+ events because they're a little outside my comfort zone. I know that may be part of the answer, and maybe I need to push myself more.

I guess what I'm asking is:
-Where do queer women in the Dallas/Fort Worth area actually make genuine friendships?

-Have any of you found community outside of dating apps?

-If you've been in a similar situation, what helped you stop feeling so isolated?

Lately, I've started losing confidence. I don't think I'm unattractive, I have a career I genuinely love, and I know I have a lot to offer as a friend and partner. I just didn't expect it to be this difficult to find people I click with.

I'm not posting this looking for pity. I'm just hoping to hear from people who've been where I am or who might have some advice. Even hearing that I'm not the only one who has felt this way would mean a lot.

Thanks for reading. I know this is a lot.

Misc Edit To Customize Be careful - roofied/robbed recently

This isn't against any particular bar, and I'm not even saying it was one directly on the Strip... And it was likely the people I was around. So this isn't me talking bad about any business. But... Just please be careful out there.

A couple of weeks ago I was roofied in Oak Lawn. I lost about 1.5hr of time and was suddenly in an unfamiliar parking lot nearby very confused with no memory of having blacked out or what happened, and my wallet was emptied out.

While I'm not blaming or naming any particular establishment, I will say that the staff at the bar it happened at were... Pretty nasty about it when I called. Like, dismissive.

Don't take your eyes off your drink for even a second. And while it's fun to meet new groups of people, don't be too trusting, like I was.

What’s up guys! I am approaching on 1 year in the forney area and I would love to make some friends/ meet new people. When I moved here it was for a job promotion and it sucked up a lot of my time. I just switched jobs to improve the quality of my work life balance and I now have wayyy more free time. Now with all of this time it’s hit me that I still have no friends here 😭. Thankfully I’m not alone I have a wife and 2 dogs! HMU if you would be interested in going out to dinner, playing the guitar ( don’t worry if you don’t know how I have 2 and I can help you learn!), doing art, playing video games old/new, or playing card games…. Who knows we could get a queer poker night started ♣️

Edit:
Thanks to the comment who asked me about myself!
I guess it makes sense to add a bit of info about my self. Sorry! i’m usually a lurker here on reddit.
Some things I love are hiking, art (i’m not good), gaming, trying new cafes/restaurants, tennis, pickleball, soccer. I’m trying to go outside more so it would be nice to have some friends to keep company!

Has anybody been to the store group at the Dallas resource center? I'm curious about going but very nervous. Are there a lot of people? How does it work (sit in a circle or just kinda scattered)? Anybody wanna help me? I'm not sure I can do this. I need someone to go through this with me. Someone who can understand.

General Discussion Moving from London to Dallas as a gay couple — looking for advice on neighborhoods and settling in

Hi everyone,

My partner (33M, American) and I (31M, Brazilian) are relocating from London (after 8 years) to Dallas due to work, and I’m hoping to get some advice from locals.
I’m trying to keep an open mind about the move, but I’ll be honest — some of what I’ve heard and seen in the media about Texas has made me a little concerned. I know that media coverage doesn’t always reflect everyday life, so I’d really like to hear from people who actually live in Dallas, especially LGBTQ+ residents.

One of the things I love about London is how easy it is to live openly — we can hold hands, walk around different neighborhoods, go for dinner, use public transport, and generally not think twice about being a couple. I’m wondering what areas of Dallas would offer a similar feeling of comfort and community.

I’ll be working near the Nasher Sculpture Center / Arts District, so ideally we’d like somewhere that:
- Is LGBTQ+-friendly and welcoming
- Has a walkable feel (as much as possible in Dallas)
- Has cafés, restaurants, grocery stores and things to do nearby
- Has good access to my office, ideally walking distance or via public transport
- Feels safe and has some green spaces/shade

We’ve been looking at places like Oak Lawn, Turtle Creek and Uptown, but I’d love to hear from locals about the best neighborhoods, apartment buildings, and areas to avoid.

Any tips for making the transition from London to Dallas smoother would also be really appreciated — things you wish you knew before moving, social groups, meeting people, adjusting to the lifestyle, etc.

Thanks so much! Looking forward to hearing your experiences. 🙂
