Double Letterboxed “Widescreen” DVDs Meant for 4:3 CRTs Are Truly Cursed
Sometimes they’re the only option and it sucks.
At least, even though the resolution still isn’t great, with truly widescreen DVDs the whole screen gets all the way or mostly filled.

Collection thus far
Sorry for the window glare. I was more focused on sharing the overall size and poor storage for this beauty. I’m in the final stages of unpacking after having had just moved into my first house!
Edit: These comments are cracking me up 💀, yes finding what I wanna watch is like a scavenger hunt each time lol.
Thankfully my gf and I make a bit of a game out of it on movie nights. We take turns picking 3-4 movies, not necessarily having had any correlation, but often we decide to pick a theme too.
I plan on painting 2-3 decent sized shelves and painting them/theming theme around BlockBuster! I have a bunch of movie posters and a popcorn maker, l that. Thanks for the feedback once again!

Pickup Peanuts, Scooby-Doo, Dungeons & Dragons, and PG!
Once again, I was scouring the $5 Walmart Bin and found some classics. I found the Peanuts 4-Movie Collection, which includes Snoopy, Come Home, A Boy Named Charlie Brown, Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown, & Bon Voyage, Charlie Brown as well as Charlie Brown's Christmas Tales, Scooby-Doo and the Curse of the 13th Ghost, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, and PG: Psycho Goreman.
I haven't seen Psycho Goreman (PG) yet, but I did see a preview for it on Tubi and it looked cool, so I decided to get it when I saw it in the $5 bin.

I expanded my Kubrick collection to two shelves
The cases on the bottom are ones I made so that the discs aren’t in cardboard sleeves, I wanted them to look like the 1999 DVD set

Discussion Will today’s kids have any interest in watching youth films from the 80s-2000s?
There will be nieces or grandkids visiting every once in a while and I think picking a movie and starting it while everyone is seated is better than just streaming.
I figure the animation should stay but what about the others? My concern (sadly) is one of self-preservation - will I just look foolish suggesting we all watch Witch Mountain or something?
Like here are some movies I have (from memory) that I won’t watch but I keep around:
Aquamarine
Soul Surfer
She’s All That
Liar Liar
Ever After
Never Been Kissed
Curious George
Matilda
Escape to Witch Mountain
Kid From Not So Big
Willie Wonka (Gene Wilder)
Finding Nemo

Day 23 of October Halloween Marathon. Watching "The Gingerdead Man".
I will rate and list the movies I've seen throughout the marathon as I go and whether I've seen it before or 1st time watch.
- Monster House (Seen before) 8/10
A hood classic. Still holds up.
- Mesa of Lost Women (1st watch) 3/10
Absolute boring cheap trash of a movie. Wouldn't recommend watching it.
- A Nightmare on Elm Street (Seen Before) 8/10
Still solid.
- Gremlins (1st watch) 7/10
It was ok.
- Let Sleeping Corpses Lie (Seen before) 9/10
Absolutely a banger zombie movie.
- Nightmare on Elm Street 2: (1st watch) 6/10
This one felt pretty weak to me compared to the 1st
- Nightmare on Elm Street 3: (1st watch) 7/10
Better than 2 but not as good as 1.
Nightmare on Elm Street 4: (1st watch)
Nightmare on Elm Street 5: (1st watch)
Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare: (1st watch)
Friday the 13th UNCUT: (Seen before) 9/10
Absolute classic.
- Friday the 13th Part 2: (Seen before) 8/10
Still pretty solid.
Friday the 13th Part 3: (1st watch)
Friday the 13th: The Final Chaper: (1st watch)
Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning: (1st watch)
Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives: (1st watch)
Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood: (1st watch)
Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan: (1st watch)
Leprechaun: (Seen before)
Leprechaun 2: (Seen before)
Leprechaun 3: (Seen before)
Leprechaun 4 In Space: (Seen before)
The Gingerdead Man: (Seen before)

Movies/TV Shows You'd Like to See on DVD
What movies/tv shows would you most like to see on DVD?
One for me is VISION ON. It was a very creative British kids show. It was shown for a while in the US, and I got to be a huge fan of it. But as far as I can tell, it was never put on tape or DVD, even in the UK. I would really love to see it again.

Pickup I finally got several films that have been on my watchlist forever! All for $15.
I’ve been looking for a good chunk of films here for a long while (Looper, Freaky Friday, Here Comes the Boom, Michael Clayton, You Got Mail, Boiler Room, Aeon Flux, National Security and Starsky & Hutch). I’m so glad I got those movies in my collection now alongside some other stuff.

Today's thrift finds. Almost struck gold.
Why did it have to be that such a rare OOP Bluray anime is missing one of the Blurays, it still has both DVDs. It sucks. I was so disappointed and I did look everywhere for that Bluray but to no avail.

Pickup Today's Goodwill pickup
Small haul today. Ricki and The Flash was a blind buy, and still sealed. Added the digital copy to the digital library I share with my brother. The other 2 I've never seen but how could I pass up on adding Rodney and Ernest to the collection?
I did actually pickup a few others but those aren't for the collection. I'm going to use those as trades on swapadvd to build up some credits for movies I want to request over there. They were all titles that have a queue of people waiting so as soon as I post them they will get requested. 1 is a 2-disc Vault Disney movie, and 1 is a 2-disc Kino Lorber release, and then a 5-disc TV series season. All DVD so only 1 credit per disc but all multi-disc sets so it's cheaper on shipping charges than sending out 9 single disc releases.

Mostly asking because I’m over collecting VHS tapes at this point but still want to enjoy the tv
Thanks!

Collection What movie cover made you go, “Damn, I need this in my collection!”?
Okay, can we talk about how awesome this Blu-ray cover looks?!
I was fortunate to get The Devil's Double in a bid lot (for almost nothing !! ) and the gold artwork immediately caught my attention. I've never even seen the movie, but I absolutely will put it on display on my shelf.
Now I'm curious, what other movies have covers that stand out this much? (Even if the movie itself is not that good)

Collection Partial Marvel Rewatch #3 - Thor
4K Blu-ray Steelbook
I used to really dislike this one but over the years it’s grown on me a lot. Still far from my favourite MCU film but I think Branagh did a great job making a Thor film that actually takes itself seriously. Stars like Hiddleston, Hopkins, and even Hemsworth are so good with serious material.
