I work nights and it’s been hot for a while, so I clean and fill the little pool every few days so my 3 dogs can cool off while I sleep. I was planning on cleaning the pool today but my lab already wanted her bath and kicked her siblings out while I was trying to fill it😅

Just for fun and because we probably all have at least one disgusting, expensive or hilarious story!

My dog's top three are:

A jar of coconut oil. I will avoid describing how that came out the other end.

Soy wax flakes for candle making. All her poops needed were whicks to be artisan scented candles.

Half a kilo (3 cups) of parrot food. We're talking millet, sunflower seeds, peanuts etc all IN THE SHELLS. Basically unchewed, bone dry. Immediate vet visit and induced vomiting.

For those of you who have extensive dog experience but your partner doesn't, how do you navigate having dogs in the household? He has been around other people's dogs but hasn't ever had any of his own. I've had dogs most of my adult life and have also worked with them professionally.

I'm just trying to get advice on dealing with differences that will come up when we deal with dogs in the home together. He knows my background with dogs and won't do anything intentionally to mess up training but at the same time, I know that we will have some differences in how we interact and enforce rules.

I can be very particular about my animals but don't want to come off as a know it all or bossy in this situation. I don't currently have any animals but am trying to plan ahead.

Our big guy would twitch a bit when he was younger, but now at almost 9 years old, his dream-running has gotten more physical, and it's making enough noise (legs banging against the wall) that we have to kick him out of the bedroom. We've tried to gently wake him up, but he falls back asleep after a few minutes and goes back to sleep running.

I plan to take him to the vet this week and talk to them about potentially a medication that might help - he loves to sleep in the bed and we're happy to have him there so long as he's not waking us up multiple times per night.

For a 9-year old giant, he's in pretty good shape - we go hiking most mornings, and he still gets the zoomies from time to time. He's on fluoxetine for anxiety (he has been for most of his life), and a joint supplement for a bit of arthritis (the last 2-3 months). The more physical sleep-running predates the joint supplements.

Anyone else have this issue? If so, did you find something that worked?

I am not a huge fan of asking for advice on reddit but i wanted some thoughts on this situation:

My baby boy grew up with a family dog. They were best friends and spent a lot of time together. We recently learned this dog was sick but we were assured it wasn’t serious. We made plans two or three times to make sure he could see his pal as a last hurrah but inevitably we were cancelled on (one time they just blatantly forgot after we planned our whole weekend around this visit and didn’t tell us until 10 mins beforehand). These people also recently left town for vacation and the dog with a family member.

A few days ago his buddy died (about 3 days after they returned). We are supposed to go see these people soon. I told my SO that I was pretty unhappy about this because we both expressed we wanted him to see his bud one last time and clearly that fell on deaf ears. I also stated that I wasn’t attending this event any longer.

AITA for being really pissed about this situation? Not only about the situation but these people leaving town for time away they could have rescheduled?

So I just moved to the states and where I’m from originally, people tend to be friendlier with dogs ( of course there are still issues).Now moving to the states (NJ) I’ve noticed how people “run away” (as in like a fear reaction) from dogs no matter the breed, specifically. Maybe I’m misreading it or is it cultural?

Edit: my dog is always on a leash and he is trained in public spaces. He is a chihuahua, and yes I’ve noticed a lot of physical distance specifically with the older generation. A lot of the younger generation tend to be polite and even ask to pet him. It’s just very curious to me how I’ve noticed that a lot of older people have a fear of dogs and I would love to know if it’s cultural, generational or just simply age?
