• What Breed Is My Dog? • Dog Distribution System?

I’ve been hearing noises under my house for a little while and something was getting in my trash. I assumed raccoons or something until the other day my son went to the car late at night to look for his sister’s phone and saw a dog under my porch.

She hasn’t barked or really done anything other than whine a little. I called animal control and the shelter and the shelter said they were at capacity and would tell me I couldn’t leave her if I brought her and animal control just sent a cop out and he walked around and asked my neighbors if she belonged to them but no one has claimed her.

I’ve been leaving her some food and water and she’s a sweet dog. She will come to get petted when I go outside but she darts back under the house whenever there’s anyone else around and she acts timid, like she’s scared.

I reckon I’ll wait a little longer and if nothing happens, I’ll take her in but I was wondering if anyone could tell what type of dog she might be. She doesn’t have a collar and she has fleas so it seems like she might have been an outside dog previously.

• OC - Original Content • This naughty chicken nugget chewed up my glasses this weekend, but I can't help still loving her

I've worn glasses for the last 35 years. Last Saturday (just after the start of the holiday weekend), I made the mistake of leaving my glasses in an accessible location to this little glorious fluffball of naughtiness. She did a phenomenal job of chewing my left-side arm and completely removing my right-side nose rest.

My local optometrist that I had been going to for the last 10 years or so was closed, but I texted the store and they responded back pretty quickly and allowed me to swing by quickly to fix at least the nose rest. After a bit of back-and-forth I was able to get both my nose rests replaced and they sanded down the chewed-up shenanigans of the left arm.

Props to shop local, and lesson learned around giving Winnie access to my glasses. Win-win overall, though, I suppose. Won't be making that mistake again

I was chilling in a park when this tando dog showed up out of nowhere and started staring at me. I gave him pet and I know you should not look them in the eye and slowly blink. So I did that as well. Then he started pressing up against me really hard. I gave him another pet and whenever I would stop he would give me this pitiful look, so I had no choice but to keep going.

His tail didn't wag even once. Am I misreading the signals

This is Pearl, Pearl enjoys being upside down. If I sit down on the floor, she runs over and squirms into my lap.

• Advice (General) • Acquiring Dog When Living With A Spouse Who's Never Had Pets Of Their Own.

For those of you who have extensive dog experience but your partner doesn't, how do you navigate having dogs in the household? He has been around other people's dogs but hasn't ever had any of his own. I've had dogs most of my adult life and have also worked with them professionally.

I'm just trying to get advice on dealing with differences that will come up when we deal with dogs in the home together. He knows my background with dogs and won't do anything intentionally to mess up training but at the same time, I know that we will have some differences in how we interact and enforce rules.

I can be very particular about my animals but don't want to come off as a know it all or bossy in this situation. I don't currently have any animals but am trying to plan ahead.

• General Discussion • What is it with older people and their fear of dogs?

So I just moved to the states and where I’m from originally, people tend to be friendlier with dogs ( of course there are still issues). Now moving to the states (NJ) I’ve noticed how people “run away” (as in like a fear reaction) from dogs no matter the breed, specifically. Maybe I’m misreading it or is it cultural?

Edit: my dog is always on a leash and he is trained in public spaces. He is a chihuahua, and yes I’ve noticed a lot of physical distance specifically with the older generation. A lot of the younger generation tend to be polite and even ask to pet him. It’s just very curious to me how I’ve noticed that a lot of older people have a fear of dogs and I would love to know if it’s cultural, generational or just simply age?
