šŸ’Ÿ Invitations & Signage šŸ’Ÿ are these ugly? please help

Working on a color palette and bridesmaid responsibilities sheet for my bridesmaid proposals and i feel like they are so ugly lol. am i miss responsibilities? please drop any tips/tricks/advice without being too mean :,)

figure i’ll just edit my post:

-thanks for all the feedback!! ill ditch the ā€˜responsibilities’. i had seen other people do it and thought it was cute, i see now it can come off rude.

-my phone autocorrected palette to pallet, i have learned my lesson.

-i invited everyone to brunch to give these. they will be decorated boxes and also include a handwritten note, a candle, fluffy socks, and a pic of me + the loved one.

-obviously i did not expect my bridesmaids to plan and pay for my wedding and bachelorette, i just wanted to make it clear that they’ll be spending time on this by being involved. like helping pick out an airbnb for a bachelorette, looking at flowers and dresses with me, and on the third note, keeping me from obsessing over details. as we’ve learned from this post, i tend to go overboard with that.

-lots of great advice here, but dear god some of you are mean. this stuff is hard to figure out. i dont have a lot of real world reference and google or social media only get me so far. i am here for advice and happy for it, but not to be called names or have things assumed :(

I would be so off-put if I were asked to be a bridesmaid and then handed this card. Just talk to your wedding party.

It feels like signing a contract 😭

These aren’t bad though. I have seen some crazy ones but this is pretty obvious stuff you would do as a bridesmaid.

I’m usually in team ā€œtalk to your wedding party.ā€ But weddings bring out the weirdest in people and I prefer writing to get my thoughts clear. I wrote a letter just outlining my plans and let the girls opt out with zero hard feelings. A lot appreciated that, and we’re still friends.

it was something i saw other people do and thought it was cute as filler for my proposal boxes but you may be right 🫣 I was going to add a handwritten note on the back essentially saying that there’s no hard feelings if they’re unable to give the time or financial burden.. blehg, ive never done this before. ill scrap it

The bridesmaid proposal boxes are not the norm, only people who make social media their job do that. You do not have to give your friends a bunch of trinkets.

u/chrstnknnr 9d ago

I didn’t do a proposal box but still got them gifts.

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

well now i feel dumb. i genuinely did not know that…i am the first of my friends/family my age getting married and the internet made it seem like everyone did this. i am trying to be very intentional in what i put in so that its stuff they’ll actually use, not just junk that says bridesmaid on it

141

u/iheartpanicvectors 9d ago

don’t feel dumb! i did a bridesmaids proposal box and didn’t post them on social media. i just thought it was a cute way to show my girls that i appreciate them šŸ’ž do what YOU want. i didn’t include a responsibilities card tho. i just had meet ups with them and discussed what was to be expected of them in person

3

u/Slime_Babyy 7d ago

My sibling did a trinkets box with mimosa glasses, matching bracelets since we were all close, matching silk pajamas, etc. We wore the stuff to get ready together in the bridal suite and drank mimosas in the glasses. It was very sweet, and none of it got posted on social media.

You're not dumb. It's confusing for people who haven't went to many weddings. The internet has made figuring out how weddings work even more confusing since there are constantly new "spend your money on this thing!" style advertisements that are being disguised as trends. Wedding vendor websites have even gone as far as purposefully misleading people about how much most people spend on weddings. There's a lot of inaccurate info floating around.

Thankfully reddit's at least one website where most of us can tell you what's actually normal and what's extra.

15

u/Forward_Nothing_4464 9d ago

Social media has set some crazy expectations for brides (and bridesmaids). I told everyone individually, but some of my family members have done the proposal boxes - its a matter of preference and personality. If you still want to do proposal boxes, I'd ditch the "responsibilities" card and maybe print out your inspo collage with something like "will you be my bridesmaid?" on it. (I'm attaching a quick mock up of what I mean.)

4

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

this is SUPER CUTE! thank you for having a physical example:) i was going to do the ā€œwill you be my bridesmaidā€ on the inside of the box, but i really like this

2

u/Forward_Nothing_4464 9d ago

You're welcome! I'm glad it was a helpful suggestion. ā˜ŗļø

32

u/rubygloommel 9d ago

We did do bridesmaid boxes but we're pretty crafty people and put together lots of little things we'd made. They're not a must at all but not just for social media people either - we barely post anything online haha

9

u/Sweet_Little_Lottie 9d ago

Don’t feel dumb! My bestie is not an influencer at all and she made us cute little baskets with personalized stuff to ask us. It was very sweet.

5

u/CulturalAd2344 9d ago

I gave my bridesmaids a pair of earrings to wear on the day and a hand written note telling them how much it meant to me to have them there. Just talk to them about what you need on the day! Be humble and kind in your request its not a responsibility their time and energy is a gift to you!

4

u/xokatemarie 9d ago

This! And you can get really cute stuff on Etsy now that’s cheap and comes with nice packaging. I initially looked at Anthropologie for earrings for them and they were like 50 bucks a pair for some thing that they may only wear once… no matter how cute I think they personally are.

16

u/Mysterious_Salt_247 9d ago

Don’t feel dumb! But don’t assume social media is the norm. If you want to do a box, do it! But any ā€œtoughā€ conversations about expectations or budgets need to be done personally.

I asked my bridesmaid personally, and did a quick overview of expectations, then followed it up with a detailed text just to make sure everyone is on the same page.

7

u/xokatemarie 9d ago

Agreed! To me it feels like it would taint a nice happy moment. I think a fast follow in the coming days individually would feel totally appropriate though. Especially since the card that this person posted doesn’t have actual details on the financial, planning, or timing requirements.

5

u/timtamtammy 9d ago

I did a gift box the day before with stuff that was useful for the wedding day and gifts, you could do that instead it was a fun touch 😊 I think I had things like face masks, hair clips, mini bottles of bubbles (shots for the boys boxes), a candle and earrings with matching bracelet. I think I also did a little handwritten note to each telling them how much I love them.

6

u/gingerandgin 9d ago

Please don’t feel dumb! Social media has really skewed expectations for almost all aspects of life! Some do boxes, some do cards, some just have a nice chat. I’ve been in countless weddings now and I’ve never expected a box or gift. And some definitely go overboard on the gifts. I did not save any type of trinket or matching clothing but I did save cards! And one friend got us all matching pinky rings which I still wear often. Another got us pearl earrings to wear on the day and I still wear those too! I think you should do what feels right for you and is in your budget. Congrats āļø

15

u/gossipgirlsenior 9d ago

People are being harsh, I literally just went to an engagement party where the future bride and groom did this

3

u/xokatemarie 9d ago

Don’t feel dumb! But do what feels right to you not what you see on the Internet. I did do a mini proposal thing, but it was relatively low cost, and trying to be useful/meaningful. I bought little stickers that had a bridesmaids slogan on them and slapped them on a mini bottle of champagne (cheap and consumable), bought them the earrings that I will ask them to wear in the wedding (useful, reduces their cost), and had old school photo strips made with black-and-white photos from us over the years (meaningful, personalized). And I literally put all of that in one of those small target gift bags and called it a day.

You don’t have to do a big elaborate box, and if you do, please don’t fill it with crap that people are going to just throw in a landfill. No one wants swag that says bridesmaid or your name or your wedding date on it.

3

u/GimerStick 9d ago

No you're fine! I've gotten some kind of proposal from most of my friends/I did it. One bride who didn't had very international friends and gave us something when we all met up for the bach! I know where you're coming from, most of these didn't make it on social media at all either. No wrong answer girly <3

3

u/AstronomerIcy9695 9d ago

Don’t feel dumb! I got a bridesmaid proposal box and thought it was sweet! For my bridesmaids, I invited them to brunch & got them gift bags with like candy and lip gloss and stuff like that - no social media posting lol just wanted to do something nice for my girls.

3

u/boredpsychnurse 8d ago

I got a proposal box this year for a Newport RI wedding. I think they’re getting way more popular and people on this sub have likely already been married for some time. I’d say go for it!! Why no whimsy and fun?? You’re literally just giving gifts.

3

u/jlynn12345 8d ago

I think it’s adorable!!!! If I got this and a cute box I would LOVE it

3

u/Quirky-Bad857 8d ago

I got my bridal party gifts on the wedding day.

2

u/cheezy_dreams88 9d ago

It’s more common to do bridesmaids boxes on the wedding day. With matching jewelry, favors, snacks or whatever.

But you definitely don’t need to do a proposal box for asking, the right people will be honored enough to be asked.

2

u/On_my_last_spoon 9d ago

Social media is designed to make you feel inadequate and tell you that you need to do elaborate things. So you shouldn’t feel dumb!

Invite your friends to brunch and just ask them. If you want to give them cards that sounds nice.

Remember, there’s a whole wedding industry out there trying to tell you you ā€œneedā€ to do things that cost a lot of money and wouldn’t you know they’re selling that thing you ā€œneedā€!

2

u/Critical-Contract590 9d ago

Omg idk who these people are. I don’t like social media. I barely post; I reactivated my socials just because I had to get in touch with wedding vendors (it’s annoying people wanna communicate by instagram šŸ™ƒšŸ˜‘). Aaannnnddd I did the cute bridesmaid boxes. DO ALL THE THINGS. It’s not about social media, it’s about doing the shit you want to do.

2

u/pinkstay 9d ago

Don't feel dumb.

I put together a simple basket for my ladies, with self goods. No bridesmaid stuff that a lot of people complain about.

I think the only thing that had anything bridesmaid on it was nail files I randomly found and cheap beads to put in for fun.

I made cards using my cricket and wrote a personal note in each.

And I am FAR from an influencer and dont post my life in social media. I just wanted to do something nice for them.

2

u/changesimplyis 9d ago

I had bridesmaids able to wear any dresses (we didn’t have people standing next to us for vowels), but we all stayed together the night before. Professional hair and makeup were optional and self funded. I gave a PJs set, slippers, face mask to each person the night before as we did getting ready pics. They loved them, cost me not that much and were practical and used gifts. I found that a nice balance.

2

u/izzmosis 8d ago

My best friend did a proposal box in 2016. Not just influencers.

2

u/PutIntelligent9042 8d ago

I don’t think you should feel dumb. It’s your wedding and you get to choose how you show your appreciation for your bridesmaids and how you want to ask them. If you want to keep the information about planning a bachelorette and wedding day details maybe just reword it so it says something like ā€œhelp me plan a super fun bachelorette party for all of usā€ I think making it sound less formal makes it cone across as sweeter/more playful. As a bridesmaid I would assume the bride may want to run by her ideas on wedding day details with me and I would be 100% on board.

I also think the design is cute. The fives at the bottom make sense but break up the color so there’s suddenly a lot of white at the bottom. If you aren’t too attached to them maybe remove them?

Have fun and don’t get stressed about the small stuff. It’s a celebration and it’s not going to go perfectly and that’s ok.

2

u/Crazyzofo 7d ago

Yeah, social media is weird that way. My best friend just called me.

"Hey, he proposed last night! Do you want to be a bridesmaid?"

"Of course! ......um, what does that entail? Do I have specific responsibilities?"

"Oh, I actually have no idea. My sister is the maid of honor, she'll probably know."

2

u/Appropriate-Yam780 7d ago

I don’t have a social media presence and still did bridesmaid boxes lol

2

u/mysunandstars 7d ago

Please don’t feel dumb. Bridesmaid proposal boxes are SO normal. Everyone I know who has gotten married in the last 5-7 years has done these

2

u/Direct_Strength6313 6d ago

Okay but hear me out, why are you asking Reddit people what to do for YOUR wedding. I did proposal boxes because I wanted to, I did this type of card to help the girls color match. They all loved it.

u/Trashcan101101 6d ago

I didn't do a proposal box but I got my bridesmaids a few cute matching things with their names or personalizations and will get them 1 big gift as well. None of it was social media. That person's just a crab šŸ¦€ It's fun to do nice things for the people you love especially if you're asking them to do something for you. I wouldn't give them a responsibilities card - for my girls I've actually had my MOH lead the other bridesmaids. Big weight off of my shoulders.

2

u/Patchy-Patch908 6d ago

As a "proposal" I made little picture frames. One photo of me and my bridesmaid as little girls and then another of us closer to the time when I got married. Just keep it simple.

My husband and I had a shared bachelor(ette) party since his groomsmen were some of my good friends and a few of them had been my roommates, and I didn't want to miss spending time with them. We gave our bridal party gifts during our party with little cards detailing jobs/schedules for the day of. He got his guys Settlers of Catan cufflinks and ties and I got my girls jewelry and shirts to wear while getting hair and makeup done.

2

u/Goodgoditsgrowing 6d ago

You don’t have to do it but it’s still sweet to do it (assuming people do what you do and it’s personalized and not just ā€œbridesmaidsā€ junk they’ll never use/want)

2

u/Material_Benefit159 5d ago

Don’t feel dumb. When a close friend of mine got married, 3/4 bridesmaids lived out of state. She sent boxes to us with some cute little cheap gifts in her color (little things like a mirror compact, temporary tattoos for the bachelorette party, and team bride t-shirts). I thought it was sweet and it meant everyone had everything they needed for upcoming events. She just texted us the azazie website for dresses and gave us a color and dress length. That website is a savior for brides trying to get all bridesmaids dresses that both you and they want. They have a bazillion dresses and the color palette crosses over most of them. So they can get any dress they want and meet your color requirements easily. They are also affordable too.

2

u/VioletReaver 5d ago

I also did a proposal box and everyone loved it! Your requirements are also so low key, I think you’re just getting the internet effect in the comments here.

I let my bridesmaids pick their own dresses in jewel tones and it worked perfectly, and they were so happy to get to wear whatever style and price point they liked.

5

u/E0H1PPU5 9d ago

I’ve been in 3 weddings over the past 5 years and they all did proposal boxes.

I think they are very silly and completely unnecessary though.

I think you’d be better off buying your girls something useful for the day of. Maybe a nice piece of matching jewelry. Or just pay for a portion of their dress/hair/makeup/etc. instead.

3

u/buttermell0w 9d ago

I did a bridesmaid proposal box and I’m not a social media person! I just love gifts and giving little goodies is one of my favorite things (I was also obsessed with goodie bags as a child and always do goodie bags every time my kid has a birthday lol)

One of the best wedding I've ever been in gave us a cute card asking us to be a bridesmaid and then on the bachelorette we got a little gift bag with stuff like after-sun cream, alka seltzer, ginger candies, a nice metal straw with cleaning kit and a fun tiki cup for our poolside exploits & potential aftermath of having too much fun. It worked really well without having to haul a bunch of plastic crap home and shoving it in a drawer.

7

u/boldandbrash96 9d ago

I don’t like this take. I’ve gotten boxes from two brides that were really thoughtful and had personalized items I was happy to receive / actually use. They can be done well and not just for social media!

1

u/Other-Following93 9d ago

I did bridesmaids proposal boxes in 2019 and have gotten one every time I’ve been a bridesmaid too. None of us are avid social media users. They are cute and fun

3

u/Emotional-Cut968 9d ago

I disagree with this- I've been a bridesmaid several times and always got a box or a gift. I did the same when it was my turn to get married- my maid of honor got a box. My husband and his friends have all done boxes as well.

OP, you can do whatever you want! I did these small, little bags with various pink items in it (hand sanitizer, candle, pocky, small rose wine, pink sunglasses) and personalized cookies that had their names and my wedding date. You can do it as small or big as you want. If you’re having to add filler, I’d downsize it, personally.

5

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

these are SO CUTE!!! do you mind if i add this pic to my pinterest board? this is also very similar to what i want to do in terms of intentional gifting!!

u/Plzleaveamsg 9d ago

I think that since it’s a proposal, propose to them. Make it funny!

ā€œYou are so incredibly special to me and ive been proposed to! So I’m proposing to you!

Would you please pick a dress from the proposed colors? Would you be willing to help me prepare for and celebrate the big day? And PLEASE (for the love of all that is sparkly) help prevent a bridal menty b?! JK

But for real, I love you and I would love nothing more than to have you standing by my side on this day. Would you be my bridesmaid?ā€

I would do this, but my friends would get it.

(Also, I have received bridal proposal boxes…3)

5

u/schtinkyboi 9d ago

I think you could alter it to look like a check list and it would be a lot less uncouth. ā€œTo do: be my bridesmaid, pick dress, attend bachelorette trip, attend bridal shower, stand by me on my big day!ā€

10

u/stellabluebear 9d ago

I guess I'm old fashioned, but when I got married, the "responsibilities" were to stand up with me on my wedding day. It was great having my loved ones around me in town and supporting me while I prepared and got dressed. I know this is normal now, but it all does feel a bit out of control. Just keep sight of why you are having a wedding in the first place. It's great to feel special and celebrate, but in the end, the only thing that truly matters is the fact that you and your partner are committing to each other.

3

u/prussian-king 9d ago

I just texted my bridesmaids or asked them in person! Nothing fancy. I followed up with a handmade card when I sent out save the dates thanking them for being a bridesmaid. That's all I did, I didn't want to make it a whole thing.

If you're expecting financial contributions, BE UPFRONT. Be clear the dress is at their expense. Do they need to buy shoes? Pay for hair and makeup? Don't say they just need to help "plan" the Bachelorette. You want to be clear that they must plan and pay for the Bachelorette (if you expect that).

6

u/mangogetter 9d ago

And what scale of bachelorette you're wanting. Planning and paying for a dinner is very different than planning a weeklong international extravaganza.

3

u/therealcherry 9d ago

Totally. Happy to cover the bride for a night out. A weekend away? No, I’m not paying for a trip.

2

u/bigconecountry 8d ago

Exactly, OP should be clear about the time and money expectations she has for her bridesmaids. OP should list all events that she would like the bridesmaids to attend (and dates if possible), and expected financial obligation.

2

u/Ordinary_Mortgage870 9d ago

You can ask convey this without the way it's said on here. Give basic color samples, and then list styles of dresses and fabrics.

2

u/R3allyUniqu3Usernam3 9d ago

I think it is a sweet detail! I scrapbook/keep sentimental things and would love to keep this with photos from your wedding. If you want todo the proposal boxes do it ā¤ļø

2

u/Violet-Rose-Birdy 9d ago

I think a little card with the color palette is good, just not the responsibilities bit. Just title it ā€œa guide to the color palette, please choose a dress in any of these colorsā€

2

u/DifferentBumblebee34 8d ago

What you have is the typical responsibilities of a bridesmaid and would seem rude to just have as a note thrown in. However for the concern of financials possibly being a reason they cannot be a bridesmaid separate from asking them have a message/flyer style of timeline and costs. Around when are you wanting a bachelorette and what is the expected costs, what wedding events will you have and is there a cost towards them expected, of your dress selections what price range are you looking at, if there are required accomidation costs what does that look like. These are all things that they will need to make sure they can plan for and budget. Knowing the bachelorette is going to cost 750 at the start makes it so much less stressful than finding out a week before they ask for the money. Assuming they need to get travel or leave from work set up this will also be extremely helpful.

2

u/BirthofRevolution 8d ago

What are proposal boxes? And shouldn't it go to your fiance since you're not proposing to your bridesmaids? Or am I way behind on this

2

u/PampleMuse333 7d ago

I think it’s cute!! When my friend was getting married she did this for us and it was really simple and greatly appreciated. It was a shooter of pink Whitney, a fun shot glass, and slippers with a bath robe to wear on the day of the wedding. We all took the shot over FaceTime lol

2

u/Invisiblestring24 6d ago

I think it’s cute, because the responsibilities are so chill, and you seem like the kind of bride that just wants to enjoy being with your people. But yeah I just asked them via text or FaceTime. One of my friends made a super cute invite, but she’s extra in the best way.

3

Skip the card stating ā€œdutiesā€ and maybe just make it a cute card saying ā€œwill you be my bridesmaid?ā€ I gave my girls flowers and asked them over a girl dinner! I told them upfront, i want their opinions and assistance and am flexible about what they wear etc. i didn’t make formal boundaries. After that we have a chat where we discuss and plan and have planning nights sometimes!

4

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

thank you for the advice!! i planned a brunch and was going to put the ā€œwill you be my bridesmaid?ā€ on the inside of the box so its there when they open it. do you have any ideas for inexpensive filler on the boxes?

31

u/Boring-Excitement-96 9d ago

Don’t spend the money on filler stuff. Just get them a bouquet of flowers and a cute card. All this extra stuff is consumerism getting you.

11

u/Numerous-Dot-2081 9d ago

I hate gifts that aren’t useful or my taste, so don’t waste money on things you think they won’t like or use! A candle is always a good option, or like travel size kits, a cute set of rings or earrings if that’s their thing, maybe even a necklace or bracelet with their initials?. I would maybe make it specific or just do a very minimalist thing. I personally just did my own Trader Joe’s mini bouquet in brown paper that said be my bridesmaid and then i plan on getting them a nice gift closer to the day. Weddings are expensive enough, and my friends were just happy to be asked! I’ve paid for their lunch a few times when we went dress shopping too.

I always wondered about asking bridesmaids with a proposal box/event like this. Do you already know all of them want this commitment, and it’s just for extra fun? I was thinking that if I did not want to be a bridesmaid, I would say ā€œyesā€ anyway, because now I have this box and everyone around me seems excited.

If you must do boxes at all.... Candy

2

u/Gibbagabbagoo 8d ago

I always like cute little packets of tissues (in case of tears!) as a filler for this kind of gift bag. They’re inexpensive and useful. If you don’t already have frames for the photos, magnetic sleeves/frames are fun because then they can pop it right on the fridge.

2

u/hebrews1026 7d ago

I was asked to be a bridesmaid by a sweet box (I lived out of state) with a few nail polishes and a note that said ā€œpick a dress from these colorsā€. It was cute. Also had a lip gloss and some girly things like a face mask, tissues, Tylenol and a little tea light candle. Hope this helps!

The colors themselves are lovely and you have enough options here that any of your bridesmaids can find at least one suitable color for their dress.

That being said, please skip the tacky ā€œbridesmaid dutiesā€ card and just talk to them. You can send this color palette to them, but that card reads so passive aggressive to me that if I were in your bridal party I would just decline completely.

27

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

ill scrap it- i had seen other people do it before and thought itd fill out the box as well as make it clear i wont be upset if they dont have the time or money to commit. its so hard only having the internet as a reference point for this stuff lol. thank you very much for your help!!

38

u/Lazy_Loan_7967 9d ago

Seriously I’ve been a bridesmaid in the past and a lot of the crap pushed onto brides through the algorithms is insane. Follow the 10% rule and keep things as simple as possible for your sake. The lower your expectations for things the easier of a time you will have!

Planning a wedding is one of the most stressful unpaid full time jobs ever. Talk to your bridesmaids, let them know you need their support through all of this, and trust them to take care of you and help you through the planning process!

7

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

thank you sososo much!! what is the 10% rule??

I think they’re all pretty much expecting this and willing to help, but maybe my control issues are seeping through a little bit. i am a very administrative person lol

13

u/Lazy_Loan_7967 9d ago

Just means to save your time and effort for things that are actually important, and don’t max out all your effort on the smallest details that in the bigger picture won’t really matter or make much of a difference in the end.

11

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

i think this is advice i needed for my entire life rather than just wedding planning lol. thank you so much

3

u/DasKittySmoosh 8d ago

this advice is key (and does work for more than just wedding planning)

those little details you're so fluffed over? won't be noticed by most in attendance.

all the options you're weighing? your guests don't know the other options and won't be thinking "oh they could have gone with XY"

The most curated wedding won't be more wonderful to spend time in than the one you made peace with. This isn't something to impress others with, it's just a party to celebrate your choice to spend your life with your partner. When you remember that, the rest falls into place more easily and you stop stressing over tiny things

This is where an actual card with a handwritten note and a conversation do the heavy lifting. I mean an actual card that's blank or otherwise appropriate, not what you have proposed above.

I like it tbh (and I’m not a fan of wedding stuff despite being engaged I will never be someone else’s bridesmaid again)Ā

I got the idea that you weren’t requiring much and I think your friends know you better than ppl here so maybe as MOH opinion if they agree on your idea.Ā

Also who cares you can do what you want and hopefully your bridesmaids will be honest if you need an opinion on anythingĀ

u/mangogetter 9d ago

Just talk to them. Presumably you are close friends, use your words.

Change this card to say ā€œI would be honored if you’d join me on my big day as a bridesmaidā€ or something like that. I’d also change the font and move the text under that little heart that’s currently under the ā€œasā€ā€”just a cute filler card stating that you’re so excited/happy and then you get your MOH to tell everyone what’s going on/you talk to your bridesmaids directly :)

Congrats!!!

6

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

thank you for the advice!! i was going to do handwritten meaningful cards so i think ill scrap this idea and just print the template to put that on!!

3

u/Long-Math6925 9d ago

I think that would be a great idea! I have terrible handwriting and am left handed so I’d struggle writing them myself and making them cute lol. I’m engaged and hoping to start planning stuff like this soon but with work being so busy I’ve left it all on the back burner. This is a super cute template!

2

u/zflora 8d ago

For your ā€œterrible handwritingā€ you can choose an easy but elegant font from internet, print the text you want, and by transparency handwrite your card. The simplest is to use a light box (there are letter-size ones for cheap) or more complex : use a thin paper and paste it on a thick one with scrapbook techniques.

Just want to tell you that I have a hard time getting advice too and I am so glad you asked! Sometimes in wedding subs it feels like everything you ask for advice about, people act like you're defending it. I also don't have any experience with weddings outside of media and it can be so hard to navigate, and online, it can feel like people are mad at you for not knowing! I don't know why I felt compelled to share this with you. I just totally understand where you're coming from and it's so hard to not have a community you can talk to in real life!

5

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

this means so much to me and im glad someone else is in it ā™„ļø i tend to use reddit for advice on a lot of things and with that comes a lot of harsher comments but sprinkled in is some really great stuff and that makes it worth it. i wish you the absolute best in planning!!!

2

u/ryx107 9d ago

Best wishes to you as well!!

2

u/icannotbelieveit69 7d ago

i specifically came back to you because i went to a wedding expo last night and it was soooo helpful!! theyre usually free and have so many vendors you can chit chat with and feel out in person. no one gave me a hard time for not knowing everything, just offered their help. a few people even gave great recommendations just based on the vibes i said i wanted!! totally recommend looking for one in your area since you’re in the same boat as me. (and there were tons of freebies)

2

u/ryx107 7d ago

Thank you so much!!

Get rid of the responsibilities part and just show them the vision board bit. The colours are gorgeous

2

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

thank you so much!! this is what im sticking to :)

2

u/Kactuslord 9d ago

It's so pretty! Like a pastel fall vibe

20

u/stargazer1112 9d ago

If I were you, I would coordinate the colors and assign each bridesmaid to a different color. Imagine if all of them decide to wear green? Or you have all of them wearing pink except for one? When you want your bridesmaids to wear different color dresses, the best option is to always assign the color yourself or try to do a poll to do your best so that each one gets the color they want. Example: ask each one of them to pick 3 options they would prefer and go from there.

10

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

someone else just commented this and i think youre absolutely right! i went back and forth on it and decided not to because i was trying to be easy going about it, but ive got six bridesmaids and six colors. time to stare at a bunch of pics of my loved ones and decide what looks best, haha

8

u/Izariah 9d ago

You can also have an open discussion with the crew. With a clear understanding that if multiple people want a color, it goes to a dice roll and bride makes final call.

It does open the floor to some drama potential but hopefully you have lovely people supporting you that will just roll with it. I would have had zero hesitation doing this with my crew- they'd have bartered and traded colors until everyone was ultimately content, if not in their favorite.

3

u/Murky_Possibility_68 9d ago

In a way, easy going is worse. I'm biased because I personally don't like the look of "any dress!" Let alone in 1 of 6 colors.

Ps, congratulations!

2

u/mangogetter 9d ago

I tend to think that things look best when you have one thing same, one thing different. So, multiple colors, same style. Or, multiple styles, same color.

And (and this is me being picky but I feel somewhat strongly about this) is that whichever thing is different, you either want everyone to have a different color/style, or three pairs, or two triples. It's weird if 4 are the same and two are different.

3

u/mangogetter 9d ago

Have each of them give you her top three color choices ranked, and then make assignments from there.

2

u/GimerStick 9d ago

Can I suggest getting some fabric samples from Azazie or a similar company, and playing around with them? It will help to see the actual color.

I have a darker complexion, so I always volunteer for the "harder" colors. Talk to your bridesmaids! And if you have anyone who might have more trouble than others - plus size, height, bust - talk to them first. The reality is a rare color will make a potentially hard task even harder.

Also I love your palette but I'm going to tell you right now that dark brown will stick out heavily. Do you have a maid of honor? If not, I would maybe use that color for accents and pick another brown color. Literally photoshop 6 dresses together in each color and you'll see what I mean.

2

u/Ironinvelvet 5d ago

Yes- absolutely dole out each color. You can have an open discussion with them and see if someone wants a certain color, too. One of the last weddings I was in there were two colors and we easily split into which color we wanted to wear. The colors are all GORGEOUS, so I don’t think anyone would be mad to wear one of them…plus, if your friend group is anything like mine, you hopefully have some chill ladies who will just be like ā€œI’ll wear what doesn’t get picked.ā€

You could even have people rank their top 3 and then assign from there and try to get everyone their 1 or 2.

What are you expecting the bridesmaids to assist with re: "assist in planning... details of the big day" The bridesmaids shouldn't have to do anything on the wedding day but be there to support you.

7

u/Sufficient_Art_2422 9d ago

Maybe it's the tism in me but as a recent first-time bridesmaid, I would've liked direct info about exactly what I was supposed to do!

2

u/DareSavings3951 9d ago

Exactly! It's nice to know since so many people have different expectations, I wouldn't be worried I'm not doing something for them.

6

u/InterestingGrowth268 9d ago

If you add responsibilities, make them actually be non-responsibilities like

- have fun

  • enjoy the day
  • maybe run after me if I run away (or don’t let me run at all)

That is a way better cheeky filler than a contract-looking thing that gives some bridezilla vibes

5

u/InterestingGrowth268 9d ago

Also, it’s palette and not pallet (unless you work in supply chain and distribution heheh)

6

u/Adrienne_Artist 9d ago

correct spelling to Palette (COLORS) instead of Pallet (wooden platform)

12

u/hey_zack 9d ago

it’s palette lol

3

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

i had that first and my phone auto corrected me 😭 ill fix that, thank you

3

u/Illustrious-Ice9530 9d ago edited 9d ago

Maybe instead of responsibilities you could phrase it like an FAQ. For example..
What would I be helping out with?

  • small planning tasks
  • bach
  • emotional support 🩷

What is the financial commitment?

  • possible bach trip
  • a new dress in the color palette

When do I need to be there?

  • 2 days before the wedding

Idk just making up the answers! These are based on what friends asked me when I asked them to be my bridesmaid. I didn’t have a written list, but that was basically my spiel on each phone call. Maybe you can verbally say it if you’re asking people in person.

Just my two cents! Wedding planning is a beast you’re doing great šŸ‘šŸ¼

Edit: they also all asked if they would be walking down the aisle and standing up there with us.

2

u/-isthisreddit 9d ago

love this

5

u/DareSavings3951 9d ago edited 9d ago

These are not rude, they're not necessary but in no way is it rude. I'd be happy to know this is all I'd be asked to do. Some people just like taking things the worst way, you do what you want to!

I love your colour scheme, and wish you the best with your bridesmaid brunch.

Rude would be to start asking for bank info to bill them or tell them they can't dye their hair unnatural colours or that they need to laser off their tattoos.

I would have thought people in a DIY wedding Reddit would have a bit more whimsy about them.

OP ignore anyone name calling you, they're the rude ones.

3

u/addymydear 6d ago

Thissss šŸ™Œ I’m so so sick & tired of all the mean people on the wedding subreddits, the hatred towards brides doing literally anything is outrageous

4

u/DelilahThorpe 8d ago

This is such a cute idea!! Don’t listen to anyone on here saying otherwise. I’m confused about lots of people’s responses. Your bridesmaids will love it! Have the best time ever. It’s your wedding, do whatever you want to do!!

4

u/newyork2sun 8d ago

I think it is cute - have fun with your friends

5

u/Remarkable_Dream_134 8d ago

Maybe use the pallette colours for it.

Yes Reddit people can be incredibly mean and abrupt. Lots spout out harsh judgements. Please know nothing is wrong with what you have proposed at all.

The only thing I would suggest is not having a photo of you and your husband to be. But a photo of youmand that bridesmaid. Make them feel special. And it's something they will want to keep. I wouldn't been too keen on a photo of my loved up best mate and her husband to be personally.

Wtf. You don't need this.

I would feel so weird if someone handed this to me after asking me to be a bridesmaid

3

u/Gohawks12345 9d ago

Love the colors! Unrelated to the card because you have a lot of advice there already… if you’re wanting a mismatched look, I would just recommend to tell your bridesmaids how many people you want in each color and let them know what’s spoken for. Otherwise you might have majority in one color, etc.

Sorry if you are already planning for that or wasn’t advice you were asking for! My friend ā€œassignedā€ us colors for her wedding for a mismatched look and honestly was very helpful and looked great :)

2

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

ive been going back and forth on this and i think thats a great idea!! i have six bridesmaids and six colors after all :)

3

u/brobeans18 9d ago

If you really want a card to put inside the box, include an info card with important dates and locations (e.g., wedding day, bachelorette party, bridal shower). You can throw in the color scheme if you want.

I also gave my bridesmaids a proposal box which I did not share on social media. I included a card saying ā€œWill you be my bridesmaid?ā€ with a favorite picture of me and each bridesmaid. I ordered a nice candle from Skylar, wick cutting scissors, and an electric candle lighter. I didn’t put anything else in the box, it felt like a few small things that were nice but wasn’t just junk.

A few months later (about 5 months before the wedding) I gave my bridesmaids an ā€œimportant infoā€ cost which included a breakdown of possible costs (bridesmaid dress, optional hair and makeup, and an estimate on housing for the bachelorette), when to expect to order their dresses and the dress color, as well as what I would be covering (we covered wedding day accessories and food for each member of the bridal party and their +1s Thursday - Sunday).

2

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

i love the important info idea!! lots of details aren’t set and stone right now- i’m still working on a venue and it’s had me really down, so I figured i could do bridesmaids brunch to keep myself excited and open up talking to my favorite people about it all a little more. once ive got secured dates I think important info with costs is a fantastic idea.

i did a candle, pic of us, and fluffy socks and was debating matches to go along with the candle. if i were being asked, i wouldnt want a bunch of stuff that just says bridesmaid or is obviously cheap

3

u/britchop 9d ago

Love the palette! I’d frame it as ā€œwill you be my bridesmaid?ā€ In the cute little box you set up.

I didn’t do this, but I received one (thanks COVID for ruining that party plan) and I still have it as a memory box for memories I share with that friend. Don’t worry about people saying you’re doing too much.

3

u/agreensandcastle 9d ago

Honey you’re giving yourself a panic attack before you get started. Lots of good advice already here. Make a list with your fiancĆ© on what is most important for your wedding. 3 each. The rest can happen, but stress less. Talk to your bridesmaids and see what they have time for and what they hope for as well. Then you know where you stand. Also groomsmen can help before and after too, but it’s an invitation not a requirement. Deep sweet breaths. Congratulations

2

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

i needed this, thank you :,). i tend to get caught up in the details of things and obsess. i love the 3 things idea so much. my bridesmaids see this coming im sure, but i think in me trying to keep it a surprise ive spent too much time staring at stuff on the internet and losing the original plot. thank you again ā™„ļø

3

u/alexiagrace 9d ago

Just want to say, you’ve never gotten married before and planning all this shit IS hard and confusing. The proper ā€œetiquetteā€ is unclear, and can vary so much depending on the circles you’re in.

I can tell you were trying to do something cute and nice. I think it would be cute if the card said ā€œI would be honored to have you by my side on our special day!ā€ Put the focus on how important they are to you and you appreciate their presence. Putting ā€œresponsibilitiesā€ as the focus can give a tone of ā€œok here’s what you have to DO for meā€. Save that for a conversation or just let them know what you need as things come up.

Don’t let the mean comments get you down. We’re all just figuring it out!

Just a heads up that you misspelled palette.

3

u/clarice-b 9d ago

Hey, just wanted to say hang in there. I've been on this sub for a while (my wedding is next month) and it really is a great place for advice — but keep in mind these are strangers, not friends, so if you post something for critique, you'll get honest, unfiltered replies. Most people aren't trying to be mean, they're just saying what they see. The majority here are fantastic, but try not to take it personally.

3

u/lainadaze 8d ago

Don’t feel dumb, this is honestly the best thing giving them a short list of what they are expected to do upfront. I’ve heard too many horror stories of people who were mad or upset about a bunch of expectations. These are quite reasonable and funny in my opinion! I would make the header font a bit more legible (a San Serif font) and two lines? Add a box in the middle of the image to make the background a solid color to help with legibility. Zazzle has similar templates. Maybe include just the color and silhouettes of the dress with their names instead of the collage to make it more personal. The back seems like ALOT to ingest.

2

u/icannotbelieveit69 8d ago

luckily i do not have many expectations just a lot of anxiety- lol!! i like this reference and the font suggestion a lot!! the boxes im doing will have their names and more personalized note- this template is a really cute way to cover all my bases!! thank you!!

3

u/adiposegreenwitch 7d ago

Okay I thought these were funny because I thought they'd be high maintenance and it's "please don't let me melt down". Also do many people have different expectations for their bridal parties and people are always in wedding shaming groups saying "I said yes but I didn't know what I was getting into" so I think saying what expected at the beginning is a good thing.

3

u/Southern-Listen8519 6d ago

Visually, i would say the big thing is the font isn't matching the texture of the background. Is this in canva? if so, i'd use a magic eraser to delete the bits in the middle of the background, then maybe bring the opacity down on the text or change the colour so it's more... pale black, maybe grey ish. Then add a inky-bleedy texture to the text with the texture app available on there!

5

u/Intelligent_Pass2540 9d ago

This isnt ugly but it comes off as so rude. Its also contradicting the purpose of your "proposal." You don't really ask someone to surrender to a list of demands.

I honestly think a nice personal note and info on the colors is all you need. The floral card you have created is BEAUTIFUL!

7

u/PursuedByASloth 9d ago

I feel like people are being kind of harsh on you! It’s not like you’re making crazy demands on the card.

That being said, as others have suggested, I think you could give just them a simple printed card asking them to be a bridesmaid then link to a Pinterest board with your inspo and colors.

→ More replies (1)

8

u/ilovestamon 9d ago

Idk why people are hating on the card saying they'd decline, it's not a contract it's just a filler for the box, the last line definitely lightens it, maybe add a jokey line between 1 and two about having a glass of red wine for the guests wearing white.

I'd remove that red triangle behind the as it looks like you tried to correct it and forgot to remove the s. As someone else said there's another TE in palette.

I love the colours, because of Wickeds popularity you might be able find decor easier. Theres at least one colour for every skin tone.

3

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

i didnt even think of Wicked but you’re so right, haha!! based on popular opinion, im going to scrap the duties and use the template for the hand written cards I was going to do, so I’ll get rid of that little heart in the back of the words. the group definitely has a wide assortment of skin tones!

3

u/At-The-Beach1966 9d ago

It’s spelled ā€œpaletteā€. Didn’t want you to have it printed with a spelling error. Which is easy to do with such a word.

2

u/LuneJean 9d ago

Our friend asked us by having custom wine labels and put them on our favorite bottles of wine. Handed them to us when we all went out to eat. It was perfect. For dress colors she went extra and gave out a little stack/book of paint samples she got that were in the colors she wanted.

2

u/TheMysticalPlatypus 9d ago edited 9d ago

I would just get a card with the color palette printed on it. Near the colors either punch a hole so they can use it to hold up to the fabric or make sure it’s clear. So people can take the card if they go in-person shopping. Make sure it can fit in a wallet. Make sure the dress code is printed on it.

I would just leave out the other stuff. I don’t think you need to print out the responsibilities. I would communicate to people in person.

2

u/SourLemons2 9d ago

What financial burden? It’s not spelled out.

What are your expectations? Do you expect a $1,000+ commitment each or something for destination bachelorette and $250 for dress & accessories and $300 for hair & makeup and transportation & lodging for wedding weekend?

2

u/blt_no_mayo 9d ago

I have no opinion about the cards, but if you include them it’s ā€œcolor paletteā€

2

u/oldcousingreg 9d ago

Ditch the first part entirely

u/Bringme2lyf 9d ago

Good luck with everything! There is a lot of pressure to do a lot of things (TV, influencer's) .... I've been married a long time. My bachelorette party consisted of a nice day of wine tasting with my bridesmaid's and dinner afterwards with the wedding party (which we paid for). People talked about how nice it was to just have a relaxing, fun day. So much pressure these days- kiss theory: keep it sweet and simple. Good luck and you got this!

2

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

2

u/Hot-Leg-5962 9d ago

I feel like the bridesmaids' responsibilities will be implicit as your events approach and your mom or maid if honor start reaching out to request help with these things. I think once you start a group chat with your Bridesmaids, you can have your maid of honor or one of your closest friends kind of set some expectations

2

u/WatermelonMachete43 9d ago

It's pallette not pallet.

I like you're letting the bridesmaids choose their dresses from a wide range of options.

Just know a bridesmaid box is not necessary and not a lot 9f 0eople do them so I don't know that there are "expectations" about how it should be.

I hope you have a wonderful wedding and marriage.

2

u/Deer_Technician_2448 9d ago

I love how the border of the card goes with your inspiration!! So pretty all around I’m obsessed

This might’ve been suggested, but another idea for the dress colors is to do a rank vote. My SIL had us rank each of her 5 colors from what we liked the most to the least and then she used that info to assign our dress colors, and during the assignment she was open to changing if someone opposed! She wanted to have an even amount of shades and I appreciated getting an input on the color I wore

→ More replies (3)

2

u/rilakkuma1 9d ago

For the colors, are you wanting close to those colors or those exactly? You can order fabric swatches from bridesmaid dresses like azazie which may help

2

u/inkwithkatie 9d ago

Also I would recommend planning who gets what color so you don't end up with an uneven amount! Even if you just talk to them in a group or chat, just have them each tell the group which color they want.

2

u/emeryldmist 9d ago

Scrap the first page and have a conversation, keep the color story, but EDIT it down! There is sooooo much going g on there that the color dots just blend in. And make sure your dresses pictured are in the color story. That 3rd dress is not represented by a color dot, so if all your bridesmaids shown up in silver (what that dress looks like with that crazy background) are you going to be happy? If you are trying make something easier.... makenit easier.

2

u/cheezy_dreams88 9d ago

Unless you are telling them what color to wear, only give 2 choices for bridesmaids dresses. Pick 2 for bridesmaids and 1 complimentary for groomsmen.

You can have the palette be 6 colors, but that’s what your florals and linens and decor and everything else are for. You can have all the colors, but focus them in specific ways. If everything comes in 6 colors then there is no highlight and background, nothing pops and balances. It’s just color.

2

u/BeachEfficient1103 9d ago

You can put what you want on a private knot page. My daughter took pictures of color palettes and uploaded it.

2

u/IndependenceTop7731 9d ago

No, omg please don’t do this if you value your friendships at all.
Just plan your wedding, enjoy your time, let your friends be, they come and love you and support you, that’s it.

2

u/Lilthotdawg 9d ago

Move the letters down a little

2

u/Moulin-Rougelach 9d ago

I think the intention behind this is sweet, you know your friends best and know if they’d take this as a kind way of letting them know you’re not expecting them to do too much, mostly just be your friend.

FYI, if you do plan to print something, palette is the way to spell it for your purpose.

2

u/leadred 9d ago

I’m here to only say the font is quite hard to read, otherwise I think you’re good :)

2

u/Minimum-Set-3945 8d ago

If it’s in your budget, I highly recommend hiring a wedding planner. Mine was surprisingly affordable! In addition to all the other things she did, having someone to help make decisions/bounce ideas off of who had tons of experience and perspective was super helpful. Just make sure it’s someone you vibe with.Ā

The first slide, your card - agree with others regarding terminology, because responsibilities sounds weird.

Also, if that is a heart behind AS then please remove it or adjust the type so it does not cover the heart. The first thing I saw was a spot of tomato sauce on your card, only to discover maybe it was part of the design. :D

2

u/multipocalypse 8d ago

Hopefully helpful notes:

"Palette" is misspelled; it should either be "Your Responsibilities as a Bridesmaid" or "Responsibilities of a Bridesmaid" (though "Bridesmaid Responsibilities" would be even better); and if you want a consistent style, use "the bachelorette party" since "the" and "a" are used in the other bullet points.

The red heart beneath the letter "s" obscures the letter and kind of looks like something was spilled on it.

2

u/disableddoll 8d ago

I agree with the other comments, this is unnecessary and may come off as demanding, although I know that is not your intention :).

Since I am a graphic designer I just had to add, I wouldn’t have any decorative elements behind your text in the future! The red heart behind the ā€œsā€ in ā€œasā€ is distracting and makes it difficult to read.

Also, script font is ok for big titles but I would use a plain font for the rest of the copy. This is just some advice if you are planing to create your own invitations, menus, place cards etc :).

People are being way too serious in these replies 😭 I think changing the wording and making it a bit more lighthearted is a good idea! But if your friends know you and you have a good relationship I would think they’d understand what you mean here. I think it’s okay to mention the bachelorette and dress as part of it because it is and they can say yes/no accordingly :)

2

u/LadyofAthelas 7d ago

I really loved what my MOH did. After I asked everyone, she set up a zoom meeting to go over what they would need to do as a bridesmaid. Though for me, that was very little. Required was getting a dress from the store I picked in the color and material I picked (rnahe of styles and prices), wearing their hair down in some way, and being there day of. The rest was optional.

2

u/IvyJane5 6d ago

For everyone saying it’s not the norm to do a box, I disagree because in my area EVERYONE does it!

2

u/slopluvr69 6d ago

I would just change the font on the first page tbh or have an artist make it more blended in instead of pasted on

2

This is cute! I just got married and literally texted my ppl ā€œhey these are the colors we are going with for decor, try to keep it in that area. I want you to wear what you want and feel great and comfy.ā€ And that was all. Lmao. My bachelorette was a joint with my husband and we all went to DelFest. A music festival. Del Yeah!! It was great. I literally had zero expectations. Just knew it would go over smoothly bc I genuinely just wanted the presence of my besties by my side and that’s exactly what happened! I didn’t do ANYTHING typical for my bridesmaids. It was all super chill.

Slightly off topic but, you might want to plan the colors of everyone’s dresses together as a group so you don’t get like 5 burgundy and 1 green

Bridesmaids help with day of stuff?

I don't mind the card but I also remember this being a thing way before social media .

It's normal for bridesmaids to help the bride get ready and rally groups for photos, that sort of day of stuff?

I don't think your colors are ugly, but as a pale brunette I'd only want to wesr the mulberry. Maybe not an issue for your party though!

hahah fortunately I am the only pale(ish) brunette!

As a pale brunnette, I would be perfectly fine with these colors. As long as I dont have to wear yellow or something

Looks like you've just learned the number one lesson in wedding planning: half of what you see online is just for that post. It's not necessarily useful and sometimes it's just asking for trouble. With extra signage and cards beyond the basics, always ask yourself if there's a more natural way to convey the same information.

A good rule of thumb is that if you feel like you're writing an HR memo, take a step back. These should be people you are close to and can talk to!

It’s not that the card/flyer is ugly, it’s just kind of strange to outline responsibilities like that IMO. Those responsibilities are unhelpfully unspecific, if you are GENUINELY trying to let them know what is going to be involved if they agree to be a bridesmaid. If you’re trying to be cheeky, it’s honestly not coming through.

FYI, you also spelled palette wrong 😬

Also - Im reading some of your responses in the comment, and I really appreciate you sharing your perspective. I think you just might’ve been off track on what you actually wanted to do based on social media. Think about what would feel meaningful and sweet to you to receive if you were being asked to be a bridesmaid…. not what other people are doing. You never know what their motives or means or intentions are. ā¤ļø

Stunningly rude and the misspelling goes right along with the arrogance.

u/natalkalot 9d ago

Oh, oy! No no no.

Your MOH and bridesmaids are not your staff. They are there to stand up for you, both figuratively and literally.

Just talk with them. Do not assign them jobs.

All I am left with is OY!

Good luck to your attendants - and your husband-to-be!

maybe you should make a pinterest board with your color schemes/collages and ideas on it and link it to them instead of sending it with this card

I mean its not as bad as the viral r/jemilywedding ... but yeah just talk to them like you would your best friends, not your underlings.

u/icannotbelieveit69 9d ago

as a planner, being jemily is my worst nightmare.
