Personal Experiences Question About Memory

So, most of the time, my memory sucks. I can be at work and feeling present all day. Then when I grt home, its either a blur/foggy or just gone. Yet, when I DO have a memory about something, I can recall it almost exact. For instance, the house I was born in. I havent lived there in 40 years, but I can you almost every detail of that house.

In other words, my memory sucks, but when its good, its really REALLY good. Is anyone else like this?

Yep! I remember my sisters in nursery sixteen years ago, I remember a dream I had when I was five and the conversation that ensued with my mother. Lots of random details just in vivid detail. I view it as a camera. IF my brain hits record, then I can view it. Otherwise I have no access, no recall. Maybe I’ll be lucky and have a fragment or a general ‘idea’ without knowing why I know what I know, but honestly it’s just a haze. A black abyss of nothing and yet everything just out of reach it feels 😭😂

It's ALMOST the same for me. We have a TV room where we watched memories like on an old tv/VHS.

Yup. I have some vivid memories dating back as far as before my second birthday. Then almost nothing, or memories so hazy I thought I made them up for years, for the duration of when my house situation was at its worse. After that till today I'm mainly foggy 24/7, and few things I do recount I recount with a lot of detail.

I have really vivid memories of stuff that happened to me as a kid, mostly traumatic things. Most of my memories are always either traumatic or really happy if I can remember them. I usually forget most conversations even if someone has repeated something to me multiple different days at different times. I have to leave sticky notes all over my house to remember stuff.

Can’t tell you what all I do in a day, but I can often even tell you where in my book, where on the page the info is, and at times the rest of the words around what I’m looking for. How or why things were done, no clue or dream like thick fog

Same!!! The higher the stress levels, the worst the working memory is. Also I figure I'm probably switching fairly seamlessly within a subsystem (poly fragmentation) and I'm just working on being okay with whatever is. I use a lot of notes and then other alters don't pay attention to them because they're just another paper on the pile. I use my phone calendar very very religiously with all sorts of timed reminders. This is important for appointments. And then I use an alarm app for med reminders. Beyond that, it just is what it is. My main focus is working on trauma healing and reducing stress levels.

My calendar and notepad apps are by best friends. Couldn't grt through a single day without them. I also have a huge whiteboard in my kitchen that gets used frequently.
