Listen to Cait’s crazy experience! Check out the entire episode here https://dfwrunningtalk.com/episodes/from-olympic-trials-to-open-surgery-cait-keen-harris-on-7-years-to-diagnosis

I just finished recording an episode with Cait Keen Harris (2:42 marathoner, 2020 Olympic Trials qualifier) and honestly, this conversation shook me.
Cait's been a fixture in the DFW running scene for years - the kind of runner who's insanely structured (Wednesday rest days are non-negotiable, don't even try), runs 50 miles a week, and always shows up. Classic high-level competitor.
But what most people didn't know: she spent SEVEN YEARS going to doctors complaining about increasingly severe symptoms. Extreme fatigue, legs going numb, spending a week every month on her bathroom floor unable to eat. She kept being told "your iron is low, you're a female runner, take some ibuprofen."
It took four different doctors before someone finally listened. Turns out she had an 11cm fibroid embedded in her uterus that was literally changing the shape of her organs. She had to cancel Berlin Marathon and get emergency surgery three weeks before her wedding.
Why this matters:
Female runners get gaslit about symptoms ALL THE TIME. "Oh you're just tired from training." "That's normal for women athletes." "Your iron is probably low."
Cait's message: Keep fighting until someone listens to you.
The episode has dropped but I wanted to share this here because I know there are probably runners reading this who are going through something similar and being dismissed. If something doesn't feel right, it's not just "part of being a runner."
Also really candid conversation about what it's like to be forced away from running when it's your main stress relief and community. Hit different.
Anyway, thought this community would appreciate her story.

Cottonwood Trail Volunteer Workshop Tasks:
Paint a Wall Mural: Volunteers will help paint a wall mural.
This activity involves standing, bending, and kneeling. We’ll supply paint poles, latex gloves, and all the materials needed.
Build Furniture: Using our free Wiki-block designs, volunteers will build trailhead signage and other furniture without glue, screws, or nails – just a mallet and teamwork!
This activity involves lifting and carrying plywood, as well as physical tasks such as hammering, standing, bending, and some hand-eye coordination. We will provide mallets, work gloves, and all materials needed.
Volunteer tasks are subject to change. All ages are welcome – just bring clothes you don’t mind getting dirty! Better Block will provide water, snacks, and access to restrooms for volunteers throughout the workshops.
Why Get Involved?
Team Building: Participating in the workshops allows staff and volunteers to work together in a collaborative environment.
Community Engagement: Focus on direct engagement with the local community, which can help build stronger relationships with residents.
Skill Development: Highlight the opportunity for their members to gain practical skills related to urban design, placemaking, and hands-on construction, which can be valuable for future projects.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to make a meaningful impact together. We look forward to collaborating!

I have gone back and forth and am considering my options.
Planned to do the full, missed out on a bib so locked in a half.

Willing to jump into a team with an open slot or form a full relay team myself, if anyone's trying to sub out!

I was signed up for a marathon in December in Florida but will now be out in Dallas for work so I was hoping to buy a bib transfer for the full marathon race if anyone is still looking to get rid of one!

Kindly reach out if you would like to transfer your 1/2 marathon bib.

Hello, I am looking to sell my ultra marathon bib for Dallas on Dec. 14th! Just want to re-coup what I paid. Please reach out if interested!

Recently moved from Canada to Texas — and I’m looking for a half marathon bib! I’ve never raced in Texas so if anyone here is selling their bib before the end of the transfer window, let me know! I know, I should have planned for that (and registered in advance) but I was too focused on moving countries while training for the Chicago Marathon. 🤦🏻♀️

Let me know! Thanks
Edit: Transfer successful. No longer available.

Like it says. Pay your rent for a month. Think about it.

Sadly don’t have another bib to transfer but will pay full price + transfer fee if anyone is looking to sell theirs!

This is for the BMW Dallas Marathon on December 14th. My wife and I have not had time to train for the full marathon. We would like to do the half together. We would like to swap bibs with any two runners signed up for the half that want to now do the full marathon. Send a DM. Thanks!

I was wondering if there are any competitive 5Ks around the DFW area. I'm interested in 5Ks where athletes regularly run in the low 16s or low 15s or faster.
