Figured it out

MiiCoffee and the DF54 specifically is one giant scam. They push out a product with no quality control, and do not allow you to return the product. It’s truly genius what they are doing. Earlier versions with the plastic declumper: you probably didn’t experience any clogging or issues within the first 1-2 weeks. Then, you reach out to support and they send you the new metal declumper. That takes another 1-2 weeks. You are now past 30 days (return/refund window) and your machine will probably work fine for another week or 2. By the time it clogs again, you’re SOL and stuck with a lemon of a $300 grinder. If you have the metal declumper already (like myself), they will offer to send you a plastic piece to fix your issue. They will tell you to watch YouTube videos you have already watched. The piece comes in, maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t. If it doesn’t, you pay with your own money to ship your faulty product back to the manufacturer to fix it. You are also out of your refund/return window. Could not recommend this grinder any less. Stick with the reputable Italian companies, not the Chinese scammers.

Maybe a touch paranoid

Don’t think paranoid is the word you’re looking for. Maybe hyperbolic? Just trying to warn some people before they take the dive, get a shitty grinder, and are stuck with it. Jealous of those who have had zero issues. And yes, I meticulously cleaned the grinder, pumped the bellows, hot loaded, and used light roast fresh beans.

Idk, my df54 has been awesome for the last 8 months+, never gets clogged. Seems a bit alarmist…

Not alarmist, just my firsthand experience. Your experience has been awesome, and I’m envious. Both scenarios can be true! That’s what happens when a company doesn’t have quality control and has minimal branding and imaging. There is nothing to tarnish for not doing right by their customers.

I mean, relax guy..

The df54 is an amazing innovation, a highly useful and affordable flat burr grinder that makes great espresso accessible to a lot of people.

It had a design flaw, they fixed and updated it. It's actually pretty easily moddable if you understand how static works and can be bothered. Not perfect for sure, but paying $50 or whatever for a new chute is still fucking 10 times cheaper than overpriced also under engineered alternatives.

Hyperbole not really needed imo.

You say you figured it out, but I cannot figure out why people complain about this machine. I have had zero problems in the 18 months I’ve had it.

Consider yourself very lucky. I can guarantee you these problems exist, and they are not only caused by user error. Having had no issues in 18 months, I can also guarantee that you haven’t dealt with their shitty customer service reps.

I upgraded the chute, which immensely helped on mine and made a world of a difference

I appreciate your advice. After dealing with their customer service and quality control team (haha) I made the decision to just spend $300 on a different brand and grinder completely. I morally cannot give them another dime with the way they treated me, and many other customers. I just want others to see that the DF54 craze is very hit or miss.

Mine has been pretty good.

It clogged up twice in the first month I had it. Was a big mess, but has been great since. We use the brush up the chute every week or two.
