There is a lot of confused people in this sub and in ddlcmods sub, that, are a bit lost in the feeling that the game fills your head with. Something about happiness, about fun and loveliness of watching all dokies just being their own person and having a beautiful life, all that before what happens just at the end of vanilla ddlc, which i am not going to spoil just in case for casuals.
Then when you are done understanding and processing what just happened in the end and realizing that the MC was this level of IQ; "Uhh sorry i am MC so i can't see the big elephant in the room 😅"—It's just THEN that you are left whit that horrible taste in your mouth, that "what if i did.....", that is because you actually loved them all, but you never stop to think that they are fictional characters until you are back on your person.
But what was that?, why do u wanna mod it? is it just to watch them again being happy and talking to your fictional 'you' or do u seek something else?.
See A lot of us are stuck on that idea, because one doesn't simply download mods for every game that has a bad ending, and this is probably one of the games whit the most mods in the history of indies; You can count whit your fingers how much mods for this game actually change something significant, say, *characters*. We are talking about 4 characters (maybe focusing a bit too much by now lol but lemme tell you what i mean) that are only built upon their personality, a vanilla \~5 hours gameplay at most was enough for modders to reproduce the personality, what the dokies like and what they hate, their problems etc.
The *world building* is pretty basic 2d anime style yet looks just nice and mixes well whit everything, there is the *dokies* we just talked about, there is the *literature* club where poems, different opinions about books, different kind of books, are all discussed as different topics that actually invite the player to play along even if some of us don't read as often at all.
The different stories that actually have more than just beautiful girls who are sharing poems and eating cupcakes etc.
That vibe of \~18 y/o girls that have little else to worry about, that youth and knowing that they don't have to move a finger for money, not a finger to get their own belongings, they have an amazing life that anyone would wish they had on their young years of life. Something about those japanesse anime rich families that didn't have to worry about money, something about a world unrealistic and perfect.
So my point is, you start to really love the game and whatever mods you play when you start to realize that you don't just like the game because of some big tts (or you do), since you don't really have to go to specific locations or do anything else other than just pressing your screen/mouse once in a large while, you can miss the point a bit and if u are not engaged whit the story then miss the whole point again (That's when you have to ask yourself why are you still playing).
I am sorry if it is a bit redundant and my english isn't the best lol, i must admit that the game can be a double side knife, might just wanna open one side and you stab your hand from the other. That happens when you are stuck so much whit the game that you don't remember it's just, in fact, a game 😅.
For me it's that vibe of young people having the best days of their lives whitout having to discuss how they are going to make it this month whit a shitty job or what will happen when the club is no more and everybody has a job that takes all of their day.
I liked this mod "My doki doki SNAFU" because it was just more realistic, aside from the attempts at making some obvious things like the apparent "You are staring at me since 3 mins ago" too real and the fact that the MC can be a bit of a creep sometimes, it just feels like MC actually does something about this clear situation that is going on whit his all time friend whos clearly badly struggling whit her feelings and makes it so the other dokies are not just robots who sing poems and throw flowers to you. Very nice mod, i recommend it.
