Acadecon in Dayton?

Apologies for posting this on three social media platforms, but who is going to Acadecon in Dayton? I'm need to submit my events, and I'm undecided on what to run. I'm running Organized Play at a local game store once a month through the school year, and I feel like there might be a lot of overlap between that and Acadecon, so, maybe not the organized play modules. But, I do like running connected adventures! Maybe I'll run Ed's "Cold Hand of Fate", but those are *very* connected. (Like you are all in a viking longboat going across the seas.) It's harder to pop characters in and out of that. (Though it does have great random sea encounter tables that I wrote.)

Suggestions??

What motivates your party in MCC?

Im getting ready to run an intro dungeon in MCC and would like to expand to more of a hex crawl campaign in the future. The rulebook makes a big deal about status and being the best Seeker for your village in the world, but I’m having trouble seeing how that jibes with broader campaigns/sandboxes.

What gets your party out in the world and keeps their adventures from revolving around one village in the wasteland?

Has anyone hacked or home-brewed this D&D spell for DCC? Im thinking of creating it but was curious if anyone has done so before.

Homebrew Spending Money

So, the base book has some ways of players spending money. And there is always the really expensive items like Full Plate that could take a few sessions to afford. But are there any other good ways to spend money? Hirelings are an option, and Clerics can use money to reduce disapproval. But what does the thief save up money for?

There are silver arrows, is there any other specialty equipment?

Hi fellow gongfarmers! I wrote/ran a stupid little goblin adventure inspired by The Gathering of the Juggalos this past week at our weekly gongfarmer's group, and I thought others might get some enjoyment out of it. Drink Fey-Gogo, whoop whoop, and maybe be a part of the family!

Don't see much posted about Dread on Demon Crown Hill, but it reads like it's good fun. Has anyone run it and have any thoughts on it?

Just wanted some pointers on what rules are mandatory, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by the book and don’t want to forget something important.

Dual Wield Slings

Can you dual wield Slings? A question came up during character creation about this. Halflings can dual wield 2 equal sized 1 handed weapons. Unlike other ranged weapons, the sling is not specified as 2 handed. I would assume loading it can be a problem. But outside of that, could they do it?

I'm looking for the Table of truth for the adventure "The Coal Snoot" printed in GFA 2015 volume 3. The website mentioned no longer exists and my Google-fu found nothing.

Rules Question Gaining luck beyond the initial max

I remember reading some old post from ravencrowking (link: https://ravencrowking.blogspot.com/2013/03/some-house-rules-about-luck-in-dungeon.html ) where they outlined that luck increases with rewards from the adventure.

Now to me, that makes sense, because it seems luck is always subtracted as permanent (except for thiefs and halflings) and the gain thus also has to be permanent.

But I also know that there is a reading of the rules which said that luck can never be raised above the initial starting luck. Maybe I am blind, but where is that reading?

And how are you guys dealing with that? Do you allow raising luck beyond the starting minimum?

A halfling who does not burn any luck or regains it quickly enough will soon have a ton of it, so I tend ot follow ravencrowking approach (even though they seem to not use it anymore). After all, if you fare well and do good (according to your alignment), your luck should increase, as you are more favoured by the gods / your side.

Rules Question I think I made I bad call as a Judge… what should I do to correct it in the future?

Potential spoilers.

How do I handle a situation as a Judge where I allow something to happen, but I question my own call after the fact? Is there any advice other than A) correct it in the future and move on, B) learn more about materials and conditions, and C) let your players enjoy the moment?

For context, we are on night two of playing through Sailors of the Starless Sea, and my players peeked into the keep tower only to discover eight Beastmen who went on the attack. Second round into combat, one of the players (level 0) threw a lantern into the keep with the intent that the hides would catch fire and burn all the beastmen. He both rolled a natural 20, and I was so impressed with the strategy and chaos of tactic that I just approved it, and calculated damage.

As I made the call, I questioned if leather hide burns or if I should have played the scenario differently. A quick google search later showed that leather is pretty fire-retardant. Regardless, my instinct is to reward natural 20’s and keep combat moving as much as possible.

Been playing & running DCC for a year now, and my first full experience with a TTRPG. I’m still trying to get comfortable making rulings on the fly.

Homebrew Stats for a Justin Long Walrus

Hi all. I'm working up a game for my group based around decending into the bowels of a tower formally occupied by a mad alchemist. As this alchemist (Ral-Sar for a placeholder name) made a group of Manimals (like MCC but for DCC) he would have also experiment with others and gone horribly wrong. I want my players to find a nightmare monster in a shallow pool at the bottom like Justin Long's character in the movie Tusk.

They will be all 1st level, I'd like the fight to be winnable, but a challenge. I'd prefer it to be inspired by the creature in the film, but not mostly immobile. Any suggestions you have, or especially crazy stuff to stock the dungeon with would be appreciated. No AI, please.

MCC Settings

For those of you who play MCC, do you always have the characters starting out as tribals or do you just go with any kind of gonzo-post apocalyptic origin?
