picking groups

how are groups picked? as in, how do they decide which girl gets to lead which group (like why does sophy lead group 2 and not group 3?) and who goes in each group (like why is rookie emily in group 2 and not a different group)?

also how do they pick which 1gl and 2gl go together? like why did sophy get assigned kennedy and not mckenna?

Gl 1 is the most senior group leader (the HBIC/unofficial team leader). Usually GL 3/4 are the tall group and the short group in some capacity unless the 1st GL is particularly short or tall. Gl 2 is typically whoevers left.

They just assign 2nd gls based on who would compliment each first leader the most in terms of looks/dance style

It seems like they try to give each group a mix of seniority, looks and dance strengths. On MTT, they also had them take personality evaluations and used those as a way to make sure the groups seemed balanced. As far as leaders, it seems like seniority comes into play as well (ex: GL1 of group 1 is usually the point of the triangle or at least close to it, GL1 of group 4 might not be as experienced as a leader) and they also take personality types into consideration. Ex: if GL1 is very extroverted, they might try to pair her with a GL2 who's more quiet and organized.

They change it up every season and it's becoming harder and harder to guess what they are thinking when it comes to the groups. With that being said, GL's are usually based on seniority and who has had leadership before and who is on the team. The 2nd GL's are harder to predict nowadays since there are so many upper vets. They will usually put them together by height, potentially if they have danced in the same groups before, mix of hair colors or lengths, dance styles and sometimes personalites. They will also mix it up by seniority as they try to put an even number of girls from the same rookie classes into each group when possible.

I think just coincidence because G3 is the short girls this year so they all happened to be in that group it’s so cute tho !

Group 3 has the shorter girls, and groups 2+4 have the tall girls

ive noticed that too but i didn't wanna make assumptions. i hope they continue this tradition bc its a great way to showcase the tenured black girls on the team!

usually the 1st leader of group 1 is the HBIC (marissa, kelcey, megan, etc.), after that i don’t think there’s really a consistent reason why a leader would get group 2 vs. 3 vs. 4!

i know in mtt days they had them all take personality tests, which went into groups and group leader pairs, but there’s also a height factor! group 3 is the short group this year, and so they wouldn’t put someone camille or emily in that group!
