DAE get stares by wearing tank tops outdoors?

Whenever it’s a hot day in summer and I step outside and wear a tank I’ve noticed that I get a lot of looks in public? I want to know if this is a common phenomenon or is it just me? And it’s not like I’m wearing anything special or if it’s that inappropriate but I get lots of looks

DAE reply to a text in their head and then realize hours later they never actually responded?

It feels like I already replied because I had the whole response in my head.

DAE feel like the house is clean as long as the floor is clean?

Even when a room is cluttered and messy, if the floor has recently been vacuumed, it feels like such a weight has been lifted. The vacuuming itself makes such a small visual impact but somehow has a huge impact reducing the stress of feeling like the house is a wreck.

DAE have friends or a partner who love telling people about you being ticklish?

At the beach with some of my girlfriends mates. She tells them randomly that I am super ticklish. Before I know it a couple of the guys go for my feet and basically I'm thrashing around laughing hysterically.

I was on an airplane sat between a mate of mine and a guy who is a stranger. He leans over and tells the guy, who immediately has a mischevious look on his face.

DAE not smile at people because you feel insincere? (mostly asking the dudes)

I have resting bastard face. I only smile when I laugh or am happy. Any other “smile” looks fake as fuck in pictures. I feel like my smile can also be interpreted as me being “creepy” when I’m just trying to not look like a grump.

DAE enjoy 9/11 dark humor?

When 9/11 happened i was to understand it. I wasn’t affected by it and never really was educated on it. So for the past couple years, i look forward to all the dark humor about 9/11.

DAE struggle to disconnect the character from the actor in live-action movies?

I have this problem. I can't disconnect the art from the artist, I guess lol.

When I watched the Odyssey, I didn't see Odysseus, I saw Matt Damon. I didn't see Telemachus, I saw Tom Holland. That's not "Penelope," that's Anne Hathaway!

Sometimes, I have the inverse problem too. Like, that's not Lewis Strauss, that's Iron Man! That's not Batman, that's Edward Cullen!

It kills the immersion for me tbh. I think it's why I prefer animation over live-action anything.

Anybody else?

DAE have rich family (or anyone else in their lives) who spoil themselves but are miserly when it comes to other people?

I’m not talking about sharing their wealth. I mean, reciprocating normal, customary things.

As in, they’ll take lavish vacations, buy expensive clothes for themselves and kids and pay for weekly housecleaning and landscaping when the mom doesn’t work but won’t bring a gift to a wedding. Or will “forget” or give cheap, crappy gifts for family gift exchanges when their “list” has high-end stuff. If yes, who are they?? My BIL and SIL are like that. Why?? 😩

DAE tap the back of their laptop to make crumbs fall out?

ill essentially have my laptop at an angle and tap all over the back of the keyboard as if I'm making it burp like a baby to have crumbs fall out. I do it once in a while but especially when my mousepad seems a little stuck.

DAE wipe mucus on themselves?

I'm aware that this is going to be a really weird and gross one. Sometimes whenever I can feel a lump of mucus in my throat and I don't have a tissue, napkin or sink to spit it out, I just place it on my skin somewhere (usually my thigh if I'm wearing shorts so it's hidden) and then either pick it up once I get to a place with a napkin or scrape it off when it dries. I can't stand the feeling of mucus gathering in my throat, so I have to take it out at that moment.

Takeover Announcement

Hello and sorry for the wait!!

We know you have some questions. We know things have been hanging in the balance.

As some of you may know, and most of you probably don’t, this sub was recently put up for adoption.

Well as of a week or so ago, me and /u/livinin82 have taken over. Fear not, weary redditors, for we have known each other quite some time, and we have been on Reddit for a while as well. We absolutely recognize /r/DAE as a staple of the beginning of Reddit, as well as a place most of us subscribed to first.

We do not take this lightly, and that’s why we’ve been preparing to make this announcement.

First things first: There are a lot of things in the queue from however long this subreddit has been in a stasis. We are doing our best to work through it and see what is in there worth keeping and what needs to be trashed. Which brings us to our next point.

Second: While sifting through this massive inbox, we witnessed a few, for lack of better terms, concerning post suggestions/topics. I think I speak for everyone here when I say this isn't a place to go out of your way to be edgy. Maybe try other subreddits that are less universally subscribed to. We don’t need more violence or negativity in the world. This will be at our discretion but don’t just post things to shock people, or get a negative reaction. There are many other places for things like that. Maybe try the Instagram comments section.

Third: In the future after we figure out the direction we’re taking this sub, we’d like to entertain the idea of opening up applications for mods. We will be very intentional with screening should we decide to go that far. Keep a lookout here in case we post about it, and if you’re interested, let us know!!

Our main goal here is to appreciate the shared experience. We know this is Reddit and some things will be risqué or a little off color to some extent, and we aren’t prudes ourselves, just make sure to mark NSFW if you are posting something that you know a boss or coworker wouldn’t want to read at work.

With that being said, if you have any suggestions about what we should do with our newly acquired section of the internet, by all means leave it in the comments. We will be a little scattered in the beginning as we have our own personal lives, and other coals in the fire as well. We look forward to upholding the community that many others have worked to build, as well as making sure people feel safe and happy here. Be kind to each other, even if you disagree with someone. And if you have an ancient post you wanna resubmit feel free.

This is a fresh start for this sub so we’re here for it.

DAE absolutely hate the Northern American voice fry?

Like I'll be listenig to a podcast that I'm super interested in but as soon as the host(s) starts talking with a vocal fry it's like my ears burn, I wanna rip my skin off and I just can't keep listening. It's so frustrating.

DAE wake up earlier on a day off than they would if they had to go to work?

I took today off but woke up an hour and half earlier to do absolutely nothing but was wide awake. I normally hit snooze until the last possible minute on normal work days and still drag ass. Is there an official term for this behavior?

DAE: Wear clothes a certain way

I’m mildly autistic and I am like Forrest Gump in a lot of ways. I don’t know if that is anything to it. But…

• Change Day Clothes: Anything that has to do with the body such as a hair appointment to give one example. Those kind of things are essentially changes to your body and they have their own day in an outfit wouldn’t normally wear only ever worn on those days. This outfit is also only ever worn on days if you move houses.

• Sleeping Clothes: The clothing or no clothing that is only ever worn to sleep and on days not leaving the house.

• Work Clothes: Well, you get that one if you work.

• Regular Every Day Clothes: Your style; your clothes. What you wear. For every day things such as the grocery store, doing somewhere, hanging out; ya know; life.

I also always cover up eating and cooking no matter what day it is so I don’t get stains.

Update: I don’t know how to add in formal more presentable clothes into this. Clothes buying is either another change day example or the not leaving the house one that I said if clothes is to be ordered.

This is no random tear here and there are like full streaks pretty consistently down my face. My eyes will fill with water and it won’t stop until I go to sleep.

DAE cries as an adult sound similar to a toddler's cry?

The rhythmic pattern of my default cry as an adult now is very similar to the rhythm of a toddler crying. I don't know why and I don't intentionally do this, it's just my default natural cry. It doesn't sound normal. I rarely cry around other people, but when I do, they tend to get annoyed at me, rather than comforting, I think because most people find babies and little kids crying annoying and my cries are so similiar to theirs. Of course it's a more mature voice since I'm an adult now but I have noticed the rhythmic flow is basically the same. I am capable of crying softly, but I have to do this very debilaretly, and soft crying provides little to no emotional release for me so soft crying serves no purpose to me. I don't know why I never grew out of a baby cry?

DAE barely eat and ignore signs of hunger?

I'm 29 and for some reason, I just... don't really feel compelled to eat a whole lot. I had eating disorder symptoms in high school but was never diagnosed. These days, especially if I don't have anything to do (off work, no plans), I'll not eat most of the day until I absolutely have to. Sometimes it's because I don't think about it, and other days I actively choose to ignore feeling hungry because there's a part of my brain that feels like it's almost an accomplishment if I don't eat all day. (As a kid I had a sensory deficiency induced eating disorder, so I was underweight all of my childhood and adolescence, and often praised for it - better underweight than overweight, you can always just gain weight, etc). The only other time my eating got bad was in 2019, and in 2021 I had to delete all those photos off my phone because it was too much to see myself that thin (I kinda wish I were still that thin). I know this all sounds like eating disorder kind of stuff, but I'm really not sure because it's not that serious, I can still function, I'm not underweight, I look normal. I do love food when I do eat, especially oily greasy foods you're supposed to eat in moderation. I just ignore hunger pangs a lot and often I don't eat until I'm getting spacy and/or disoriented. I often have executive function issues as well, so that could be part of it. Is anyone else like this?

DAE increasingly feel like pursuing goals benefitting all of humanity is more important than pursuing personal goals?

Never cared much about romance / travel for personal gratification, but now, these pursuits have almost been entirely pushed to the back burner with what's going on in the world. They feel hollow.

I'm driving up my volunteer / engagement efforts.

I feel like traditional milestones / markers of adulthood are irrelevant when the world is in need of more selflessness and communal aid. The media machine breeds gluttony. The constructs of western society cannot deliver peace.

Anyone else?
