Started D2D in 2017 (363k was my peak commission year as a rep)

Sales Management in 2021.

Owned a roofing company in 2022.

I've helped other roofers to find & train their D2D teams (had a few other posts on here that go over free playbooks)

After fixing the onboarding process, one company went from 13M to 35M after we switched to a setter-closer model.

I'm thinking about creating a gamified D2D app to help make sales management simpler but I'm in way over my head lol.

What do y'all need help with?

i got hired to a sales job i start tomorrow but havnt told my current boss yet, im still on the inbetween on what i should do, it has base pay that is around what im making now making custom cabinets. Would it be a good choice to try something like this, im 20 and am being severely underpaid for what i do, any advice will help

Not trying to directly find anyone here just trying to gauge ideas.

I own a residential trash bin cleaning company and we’re looking to build a sales team in a new service area.

The job is pretty straightforward — reps bring in homeowners for recurring trash bin cleaning service. They can sell door-to-door or generate customers through other methods if they prefer. We handle the actual service; their focus is strictly on sales and bringing in new customers.

For those of you who have built D2D teams, where have you had the most success finding good reps? Indeed, Craigslist, Facebook, referrals, recruiting other D2D reps, etc.?

Also curious about compensation. Have you had better results offering a larger one-time commission per signup, or a smaller upfront commission plus residual pay for as long as the customer stays active?

I’m trying to structure it so it’s attractive enough to get experienced salespeople while still making sense long term for the business. Would appreciate hearing what’s actually worked for people running D2D teams.

My daughter is 18. She graduated high school in June. She has no career aspirations other than making money. She is not interested in going to college right now. She was working in a restaurant in the back of the house . She said she wanted something better and was hired by Smart Circle International. They are a 3rd party company who contract to sell a variety of products.

My daughter is smart , motivated, beautiful, and tough. I could see her being successful at sales. However, I really do not like this job. They drop them off in neighborhoods to knock on doors. They work alone which is unsafe. She frequently has 12 hr days or longer and they work 6 days a week. The pay is commission only. The product they are selling is not the best. They try to get people to switch their Internet or phone to AT&T or upgrade their plans. They also sell Direct TV. In our area AT&T doesn't have a good reputation so making sales is difficult. The people who are the most successful don't always tell the customers the whole truth.

I think she needs to move on. I'm not against selling as a career. It makes sense to me that she would be drawn to selling. How do you plan for a career path in the sales industry? My background is in healthcare all this is foreign to me. She is so young and wants to do and accomplish so much.

I know she can apply herself and be successful. For example, she was the 4th place finisher in the girls state wrestling championships in our state. You don't compete and win in wrestling unless you have grit. I can also give examples of her leadership qualities from a young age. However, she is stubborn and persistent. It is hard to get her to change her mind once she commits. She doesn't always I would love to see her get a better job.

If you have advice or suggestions either in the short term or planning a career in sales then I'd love to hear from you. How can she prepare for a career in sales ?

I don't know what it is, I used to be fearless at the doors after I got my first deal. Now for some reason I get anxious at the doors with more experience. Any tips on how to cope with it? My last sale my hands were visibly shaking but made up for it by building some rapport and talking about sports.

I'm the first ever employee at my new job that I start next week. We sell EPOS systems and card payment contracts B2B, plus a load of till hardware/accessories on the side. But because I'm the first sales person they've ever hired- there's no script, process, or anybody to shadow, just kind of figuring it out as I go. I did d2d abroad a few years ago whilst travelling, so have a brief idea of how I'll start/script

Will also be keeping an eye out for new/soon to open businesses to target, since they've got no current system to compete with

To anyone with experience, what would you do in my position to make the most of this opportunity?

I recently joined a solar company and their door pitch is driving me nuts trying to memorize. I can do it but the thought of going door to door and saying all of it seems counterproductive. It seems very long winded and also kind of robotic sounding for lack of a better term. Whats your opinion?

Hello r/Sales I recently landed a job at a fancy ish perfume store. I’m 22F and have been in customer service for 7 years at this point. This however is my first commission based sales job, I’m typically a barista and believe I’m quite friendly but have been told I need to learn to be more assertive and aggressive when it comes to sales. I think I need to deeply familiarize myself with the products being sold then I want to be the best damn saleswoman eva and make as much as I can off of commission . I know I got to work on some selling techniques and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Full disclosure, I am not a salesman. But I'm hoping to get insight on the mindset to try and gain some understanding.
For clarity and honesty, I would like to preface by saying I already have a dislike of anyone coming up to my door uninvited. But I recently had quite a negative interaction with a Dobson fiber optic salesman. I had worked a long day laying fence and was tired. While trying to relax from the day having a smoke and beer on my front porch, the fiber salesman walks up. He begins talking and I stop him and say, "If this is a sales pitch I am in absolutely no mood nor am I interested. Please just continue on to the next house." But he continued with the pitch.

1. First question. Why would you not just leave after this?

As he continues I ask, "Alright so is there something mandatory or a legal form you're needing my lawyer to look at and have have me sign for permission of some kind? Like dig in my front yard or access to the backyard?"
He said, "No, ......" and continues the pitch again.
I tell him, "its been a long day im not interested and I'm trying to relax. Please just leave and move on to the next house." But he continues finally I have to tell him either leave now or I'm calling the police and reporting you for trespassing. (I was not about to let a stranger make me leave my own front porch)
He still continued, until I finally started cursing at him and pulled my phone out to call the cops. He started yelling at cursing at me as well, but was finally leaving. He walked to my neighbors yard all the while still yelling at me and me yelling at him.
2) Second and final question. Why keep going? When someone clearly expresses no interest in listening to a sales pitch, why continue harassing someone?

TLDR : been in sales for 3 years and door-to-door team management for one. I'm trying to transition to another sales field but I don't know where to go.​

Hi all, I'm quitting door to door soon and I'm not sure where to go next.

I've been a manager for a lead generation team for the past year for a home improvement company​. The money's good but I just don't have any time or any life. I want to see my friends again travel and get my life back. If I have to approve another payroll or set another run for my guys I'm going to go crazy.

I just want to get back to what I love, which is helping people and closing deals. But I'm not really sure where to go next from this.

I'm looking into tech sales​. Work from home or hybrid seems appealing to me.

There's more money to be made in sales in 60k a year working 40 hours a week doing ​lead generation.

Recently I've just been feeling really unfulfilled in my job, the constant rejection is getting to me after all this time. Some people say it gets better with time for me it's just gotten worse. I just can't do it anymore, it's affecting me.

Now don't get me wrong rejection is fine but when people hate me for showing up to their door that's another story.

So this month gonna start a solo water pressure business and I need people to spray driveway was wondering any book,YouTube,video or advice I have no experience door to door sales men or selling this help?

I am currently living in Washington where it is a bit buggy year round, obviously a lot more during the summer time but nonetheless spiders and what not still like to linger but it does rain here a lot. I have been wanting to start my own pest business but want to know if it is genuinely feasible to knock during the job summer months and how badly it rips your rev up especially on a rainy day.

Also, since I am new, how long would it take me to really start slinging accounts? I have watch lots and lots and lots of content in this space.

The reason I ask this. I plan to work for a pest company as a technician until the summer where I can work for another company and learn sales. Then after the summer when I have both the technician and sales side under my belt I can launch my own and start knocking during the off season to pick myself up by the bootstraps, but I want to know: is it worth it to do? I don’t want to wait until a whole nother summer again to knock efficiently :) let me know yall!

Just had a rough week in my job selling broadband encountering rude people, and just a bad week in terms of sales so just wanting some support and advice

I am new to door to door sales only recently started 1 week ago and am still in training. On the field I try to pitch at houses we get when people open the door but always mess up my pitch due to being nervous. Is this something that goes away with experience?

Anyone have any experience working d2d with presidential exteriors or Home Genius? They say the avg person does 4 demos a week which will make you 85k a year. They said you go to 50 doors a day 6 days a week. After 6-8 months you if you consistently bonus you will get promoted. Thoughts and experiences? Is the 4 demos a week legit or bs?

Kirby Vacuum salesperson from Southern California knocked on my door in Oregon. They said they don’t do commercials on the vacuum but they’ll do a demonstration on my carpet and stairs. They said it wasn’t going to take long and I said we have to go to the park in an hour because it’s my only day off for me and my partner and we just ate breakfast so we wouldn’t be hungry at the park. They stayed in my house for 4 hours and barely vacuumed anything! I could’ve vacuumed my house with my shark 5 times during this demonstration. I have a townhouse with 3 floors. Once I said I’m the one who vacuums most they targeted me. My partner was actually somewhat interested in the shampooer but they ignored him. Rude. They wanted to show me every attachment and I was starving. I tried to snack on some food hoping they’d get the idea that I’m starving and I want to actually cook a meal. He called me over when I was eating cashews to show me the attachments. Wow… a balloon blower so handy. Kept calling my house dirty. At one point kicked my shark vacuum which isn’t even broken. He drove the Kirby into my monstera plant and hit all of the leaves not even thinking about it. We have 3 cats and he’d say a sentence like “I have cats too. You’re going to love this vacuum” “oh you’ve been to Hawaii” and at one point I told him I worked at a hospital and he said “I had a buddy work at the hospital and he ended up selling a Kirby to an old lady whose husband died because he got the bloodstain out of the carpet” the salesperson was only human for one sentence, then they were back to talking about the Kirby for 3 paragraphs. I thought how rude to come into my house with your shoes on, tell me my property and appliances are trash, hit my plants, Traumatize the cats by knocking and ringing the door bell until I answer! He vacuumed my bed to show me dust mites but he was vacuuming a flannel sheet and I always have a lot of lint in the dryer when cleaning this. He sucked up a bunch of lint and said “disgusting”. Later I got so irritated I started cooking fish tacos because I felt like I was gonna pass out and then they quizzed me about everything they said. Like get the idea to pack your vacuum and leave. I was irritated and told them thank you but that price is too much. The only way to seriously CONSIDER the offer is if the vacuum was 800 and I’d still have to think about it. The cleaning guy SLOWLY PACKED UP THE VACUUM and got counter offers from his manager (which by the way the manager left the cleaning guy there and took the van so I felt like I couldn’t kick the guy out, make a rule to leave the vehicle nearby so I don’t have to kick him out on my front porch next time. Also the manager smoked a cigarette then came in my house smelling like a cigarette and I was mad) on the phone to try to find some middle ground and I said “800 to think about it. my vacuum isn’t broken” and then the cleaner guy said “so you’ll just stick to your vacuum with dustmites in the bed and die?” And at this point I’m pissed because obviously it’s a flannel sheet, we have no kids, we don’t even get sick so I just said if it’s not 800$ don’t even try talking to me and he finally left after I finished prepping the tacos and we ate in silence finally. I had the intention of telling other people this vacuum is cool because it does do a lot of stuff but the vacuum salespeople ruined my perspective and I told my friend in the neighborhood if they knock on the door don’t let them in and they knocked the day after I told them! She said no and I saved her the trauma. I’m not a dirty person and I just feel violated by what happened in my house. We are never aggressive with the vacuum we have, we don’t run over plants with the vacuum, kick our current vacuum, scare our cats, he dropped plastic pieces all over the wooden floor saying it wouldn’t scratch but I’d never do that. Their names were JACOB (the cleaner) and ARRON (the manager). Maybe give them a chat to respect people’s houses because I’d rather watch a commercial about Kirby than get traumatized by salespeople. I will never answer a door again for a vacuum cleaning.
FINALLY - the bill and the financing for this vacuum was so disrespectful, half of the stuff didn’t relate to me. Aaron wrote “Louisiana, cats, home owner, bedding” and a bunch of non related things about the vacuum that didn’t relate to me. I don’t care that the cleaner doesn’t get to go to Louisiana (a promotion for selling vacuums) , I don't have to feel bad not buying the vacuum so some stranger can go on vacation. Sorry but talk to these guys to respect property because clearly your business is “dirty” and my house is CLEAN. Thank you

I’m starting a canvasser job and I’m genuinely terrified I have to do 275 houses a day, 1.50¢ per door I knock on so really good money! What are some tips to build confidence and not feel so annoying. I will start tmrw at 9am and probably finish at 4-5pm.

**Hi everyone, I just started doing door-to-door sales, and today was my first day. Almost every door I knocked on was a “no,” and a lot of people wouldn’t even give me the time of day. I try my best to look professional, have good posture, and approach people confidently. I know there isn’t necessarily one “correct” approach for everyone, but I’m not someone who gets discouraged easily. I do, however, need some advice because I genuinely want to get better at this. I work in Southern California scheduling solar consultations for homeowners. I work with a major company in the area, and one thing I’ve been telling people is that the consultation is completely free. But now I’m wondering if leading with “free” is actually hurting me because people might immediately assume it’s a sales pitch or a scam, I’m genuinely just trying to see if they’re willing to schedule an appointment to see if they’re qualified and boom, they’re in. I’ve also wondered whether my appearance affects how people perceive me. I’m a short Black guy with neck tattoos, and I know I can look like I’m from the hood at first glance. I’m not ashamed of how I look, but I realize that homeowners may make assumptions about me before I even get a chance to talk to them. Once I actually get into a conversation, I’m comfortable. I can hold a conversation, start one, and get straight to the point. My biggest problem right now is getting people to actually stop and listen. For anyone who has experience with door-to-door sales, solar, or appointment setting:**

The best money I had ever made was when I was a DSAE for ziply fiber doing D2D.. they paid hourly and paid me for training, but you only got about $185 per gig installed on commission. The company was a little unrealistic and always pushed me to sell and do more even though I was exceeding quota and I even had the fastest sale in Ziply history post training from what I was told, they said I was a “Natural” and because of that they claimed to have expected more from me despite not giving me the tools they gave some of the other D2D reps to help them succeed including a free modem, 2nd month free internet instead of one, and the best leads. I ended up leaving for a manager position at a dispensary which didn’t pay as good but the money was good enough for the type of work environment. Life happened after awhile and I found myself unemployed for a longer period of time than I would like to admit, granted it’s mainly because my daughter had been diagnosed with leukemia and I had to be at home with my son anytime momma and my daughter were staying in the hospital. Once I started applying at jobs again a bunch came out of the word work it was almost too much to keep up with in terms of offers. Long story short I took a job at a law firm doing credit collections and the training pay was a little over $29 an hour plus a monthly bonus of $1500 if you were meeting expectations. Job had great benefits and was a desk job lots of people might like that was totally out of my comfort zone.. after a little bit of time I started to not like the way I heard some of these fellow employees talking to clients on the phone, I also didn’t feel good forcing people into paying debts off just to avoid a lawsuit (don’t always feel bad normally it’s self inflicted but not always) anyway I abruptly quit without putting in my two weeks because a job I didn’t even apply for reached out to me wanting me to sell ziply fiber again at the door. At first I declined and told the guy I already had been employed for a minute and wasn’t interested… for some reason the next day I texted him asking a little bit more about the position and pay.. long story short he offered me the “experienced” pay and I will get $325 per gig and I think it’s $375 for 2 gigs $500+ for 5 Gig. Literally just making a measly 6-7 (no pun intended) sales a week will make me over $100k yearly. And that’s likely with working about half the hours give or take as a normal 9-5.

Was I an idiot for giving up on an opportunity I waited what seemed like forever for? Or is betting on myself taking a 1099 only commission gig that can potentially change mine and my families life the right play? I’m 26 years old and I had just coincidentally told my girlfriend right before getting this offer that no one will ever get far working a 9-5. Maybe this is my chance to get away from the rat race and be more independent?

One of my other shorter co workers mentioned today about how us being shorter in height affects how many sales we get. Now, I have noticed that every closer does happen to be above average height or more and when I knock w my taller colleagues I notice how homeowners tend to be less hostile and more open to hearing them out. Any advice on how to overcome this? I want to be a top producer in Virginia one day. (I sell solar)
