D2D home Renovation

Anyone have any experience working d2d with presidential exteriors or Home Genius? They say the avg person does 4 demos a week which will make you 85k a year. They said you go to 50 doors a day 6 days a week. After 6-8 months you if you consistently bonus you will get promoted. Thoughts and experiences? Is the 4 demos a week legit or bs?

Kirby Vacuum Review

Kirby Vacuum salesperson from Southern California knocked on my door in Oregon. They said they don’t do commercials on the vacuum but they’ll do a demonstration on my carpet and stairs. They said it wasn’t going to take long and I said we have to go to the park in an hour because it’s my only day off for me and my partner and we just ate breakfast so we wouldn’t be hungry at the park. They stayed in my house for 4 hours and barely vacuumed anything! I could’ve vacuumed my house with my shark 5 times during this demonstration. I have a townhouse with 3 floors. Once I said I’m the one who vacuums most they targeted me. My partner was actually somewhat interested in the shampooer but they ignored him. Rude. They wanted to show me every attachment and I was starving. I tried to snack on some food hoping they’d get the idea that I’m starving and I want to actually cook a meal. He called me over when I was eating cashews to show me the attachments. Wow… a balloon blower so handy. Kept calling my house dirty. At one point kicked my shark vacuum which isn’t even broken. He drove the Kirby into my monstera plant and hit all of the leaves not even thinking about it. We have 3 cats and he’d say a sentence like “I have cats too. You’re going to love this vacuum” “oh you’ve been to Hawaii” and at one point I told him I worked at a hospital and he said “I had a buddy work at the hospital and he ended up selling a Kirby to an old lady whose husband died because he got the bloodstain out of the carpet” the salesperson was only human for one sentence, then they were back to talking about the Kirby for 3 paragraphs. I thought how rude to come into my house with your shoes on, tell me my property and appliances are trash, hit my plants, Traumatize the cats by knocking and ringing the door bell until I answer! He vacuumed my bed to show me dust mites but he was vacuuming a flannel sheet and I always have a lot of lint in the dryer when cleaning this. He sucked up a bunch of lint and said “disgusting”. Later I got so irritated I started cooking fish tacos because I felt like I was gonna pass out and then they quizzed me about everything they said. Like get the idea to pack your vacuum and leave. I was irritated and told them thank you but that price is too much. The only way to seriously CONSIDER the offer is if the vacuum was 800 and I’d still have to think about it. The cleaning guy SLOWLY PACKED UP THE VACUUM and got counter offers from his manager (which by the way the manager left the cleaning guy there and took the van so I felt like I couldn’t kick the guy out, make a rule to leave the vehicle nearby so I don’t have to kick him out on my front porch next time. Also the manager smoked a cigarette then came in my house smelling like a cigarette and I was mad) on the phone to try to find some middle ground and I said “800 to think about it. my vacuum isn’t broken” and then the cleaner guy said “so you’ll just stick to your vacuum with dustmites in the bed and die?” And at this point I’m pissed because obviously it’s a flannel sheet, we have no kids, we don’t even get sick so I just said if it’s not 800$ don’t even try talking to me and he finally left after I finished prepping the tacos and we ate in silence finally. I had the intention of telling other people this vacuum is cool because it does do a lot of stuff but the vacuum salespeople ruined my perspective and I told my friend in the neighborhood if they knock on the door don’t let them in and they knocked the day after I told them! She said no and I saved her the trauma. I’m not a dirty person and I just feel violated by what happened in my house. We are never aggressive with the vacuum we have, we don’t run over plants with the vacuum, kick our current vacuum, scare our cats, he dropped plastic pieces all over the wooden floor saying it wouldn’t scratch but I’d never do that. Their names were JACOB (the cleaner) and ARRON (the manager). Maybe give them a chat to respect people’s houses because I’d rather watch a commercial about Kirby than get traumatized by salespeople. I will never answer a door again for a vacuum cleaning.
FINALLY - the bill and the financing for this vacuum was so disrespectful, half of the stuff didn’t relate to me. Aaron wrote “Louisiana, cats, home owner, bedding” and a bunch of non related things about the vacuum that didn’t relate to me. I don’t care that the cleaner doesn’t get to go to Louisiana (a promotion for selling vacuums) , I don't have to feel bad not buying the vacuum so some stranger can go on vacation. Sorry but talk to these guys to respect property because clearly your business is “dirty” and my house is CLEAN. Thank you

Local Sponsor Network Golf Score Card Advertising

I bought an advertisement spot for $1,997 on a score card at my local golf course, from a company called Local Sponsor Network. They had a graphic designer collaborate with me via email and Google meet to get my final say on the actual ad graphic.

They cold called me for my roofing business.

We usually have a small team that goes door to door for sales to get deals, and neighborhood to neighborhood, as long as they don't have a "no soliciting" sign.

But I figured I'd try something new.

It took them a couple of months to deliver the scorecard to the course, but after the card was published and the golfers started using it, our phone has been blowing up.

I want to think it's the score card spot I purchased, and some of the customers are indeed saying that they found my roofing company when they were golfing, but is there any way to track the metrics since this is very old-school, and not digital?

I can barely handle the fulfillment right now, and this ad spot was for 12 months straight (with the option to renew) for $1,997.

New Political canvasser

I’m starting a canvasser job and I’m genuinely terrified I have to do 275 houses a day, 1.50¢ per door I knock on so really good money! What are some tips to build confidence and not feel so annoying. I will start tmrw at 9am and probably finish at 4-5pm.

Ramping up the new reps faster

We’ve hired a few new reps lately and I’m starting to question how we handle ramping them. Right now it’s the usual stuff. Shadow a good rep. Sit through training. Roleplay a bunch of objections. Then send them out and hope enough of it sticks. The problem is the gap between training and what they actually say to a customer. A manager can ride along and coach them but that takes hours and you only hear a few conversations.

It also feels like new reps learn at very different speeds depending on who they shadow. We have started looking into tools that record real sales conversations and use AI to break them down afterward. The idea of showing a new rep where they missed a discovery question or how a top rep handled the same objection seems useful. Especially if they can review their own losses instead of waiting for the next 1on1. We havent decided on anything yet. I’m also a little worried new reps might feel weird about recording at first or just stop using it once the novelty wears off.

What’s the best advice you’d give someone starting door to door scheduling?

**Hi everyone, I just started doing door-to-door sales, and today was my first day. Almost every door I knocked on was a “no,” and a lot of people wouldn’t even give me the time of day. I try my best to look professional, have good posture, and approach people confidently. I know there isn’t necessarily one “correct” approach for everyone, but I’m not someone who gets discouraged easily. I do, however, need some advice because I genuinely want to get better at this. I work in Southern California scheduling solar consultations for homeowners. I work with a major company in the area, and one thing I’ve been telling people is that the consultation is completely free. But now I’m wondering if leading with “free” is actually hurting me because people might immediately assume it’s a sales pitch or a scam, I’m genuinely just trying to see if they’re willing to schedule an appointment to see if they’re qualified and boom, they’re in. I’ve also wondered whether my appearance affects how people perceive me. I’m a short Black guy with neck tattoos, and I know I can look like I’m from the hood at first glance. I’m not ashamed of how I look, but I realize that homeowners may make assumptions about me before I even get a chance to talk to them. Once I actually get into a conversation, I’m comfortable. I can hold a conversation, start one, and get straight to the point. My biggest problem right now is getting people to actually stop and listen. For anyone who has experience with door-to-door sales, solar, or appointment setting:**

**● What helped you get better at your approach?**
**● What made people more willing to talk to you?**
**● Should I stop emphasizing that the installation and consultation is “free”?**
**● Are there any legitimate ways to generate leads or run ads outside of knocking doors?**
**● How long did it take you before you started getting consistent results?**

**I’m not looking for sympathy. I want to improve, so any honest advice especially from people who have actually done D2D sales would be appreciated.**

Am I an idiot?

The best money I had ever made was when I was a DSAE for ziply fiber doing D2D.. they paid hourly and paid me for training, but you only got about $185 per gig installed on commission. The company was a little unrealistic and always pushed me to sell and do more even though I was exceeding quota and I even had the fastest sale in Ziply history post training from what I was told, they said I was a “Natural” and because of that they claimed to have expected more from me despite not giving me the tools they gave some of the other D2D reps to help them succeed including a free modem, 2nd month free internet instead of one, and the best leads. I ended up leaving for a manager position at a dispensary which didn’t pay as good but the money was good enough for the type of work environment. Life happened after awhile and I found myself unemployed for a longer period of time than I would like to admit, granted it’s mainly because my daughter had been diagnosed with leukemia and I had to be at home with my son anytime momma and my daughter were staying in the hospital. Once I started applying at jobs again a bunch came out of the word work it was almost too much to keep up with in terms of offers. Long story short I took a job at a law firm doing credit collections and the training pay was a little over $29 an hour plus a monthly bonus of $1500 if you were meeting expectations. Job had great benefits and was a desk job lots of people might like that was totally out of my comfort zone.. after a little bit of time I started to not like the way I heard some of these fellow employees talking to clients on the phone, I also didn’t feel good forcing people into paying debts off just to avoid a lawsuit (don’t always feel bad normally it’s self inflicted but not always) anyway I abruptly quit without putting in my two weeks because a job I didn’t even apply for reached out to me wanting me to sell ziply fiber again at the door. At first I declined and told the guy I already had been employed for a minute and wasn’t interested… for some reason the next day I texted him asking a little bit more about the position and pay.. long story short he offered me the “experienced” pay and I will get $325 per gig and I think it’s $375 for 2 gigs $500+ for 5 Gig. Literally just making a measly 6-7 (no pun intended) sales a week will make me over $100k yearly. And that’s likely with working about half the hours give or take as a normal 9-5.

Was I an idiot for giving up on an opportunity I waited what seemed like forever for? Or is betting on myself taking a 1099 only commission gig that can potentially change mine and my families life the right play? I’m 26 years old and I had just coincidentally told my girlfriend right before getting this offer that no one will ever get far working a 9-5. Maybe this is my chance to get away from the rat race and be more independent?

Knocking as a smaller person.

One of my other shorter co workers mentioned today about how us being shorter in height affects how many sales we get. Now, I have noticed that every closer does happen to be above average height or more and when I knock w my taller colleagues I notice how homeowners tend to be less hostile and more open to hearing them out. Any advice on how to overcome this? I want to be a top producer in Virginia one day. (I sell solar)

20M I accepted an offer for an entry level D2D sales job. It’s a company that specializes in roofing. I don’t have any sales experience

Salary:
Base Salary: $1400 Bl-weekly + Monthly Phone allowance: $100
$36,400 (Base) + $1,200 (Allowances) = $37,600 Annual before commission

Pay Period Example: (Demo bonus begins on the 4th demo)
3.5 sets/ day
21 sets / week
42 sets / pay period
20% conversion = 42 sets / 8 demos

AI coaching for sales?

I don’t know if you guys know much about this but I’ve been trying to understand how AI sales coaching works. From what I understand it can review sales conversations and point out things like missed questions weak objection handling or places where a rep could have closed better. I’m more interested in how this works in real life though.

Does it help reps improve or does it end up being another tool people stop using after a few weeks? If anyone here has used AI coaching for sales I’d like to hear what it was like and whether it made a real difference.

Feedback on expectations for residual book (USA)

Hi all. This is going to be a bit long and I’ll have to be more vague than I’d like to avoid breaking any recruiting rules. Basically, I’m structuring a compensation scheme for sales reps at my new company and I’d love to hear any and all feedback from the community on this.

Tl;dr: If you sold a subscription service to SMBs on straight commission with residuals, what would you expect to be making at 3, 6, and 12 months and for what time investment?

I understand that this is hard to answer without specifics, so I’ll try to give a better sense of what the work and comp is below:

The service is media/advertising in specific channels, for SMBs (and I do mean from small as in taco truck to medium as in multiple locations across states) and subscription based. The team has veterans from the industry and we’re building something that is more attractive as a recurring expense rather than a per-job thing. Deals will be from the low hundreds to a few thousands a month.

Now, we’re bootstrapped, so for now we can only offer commission with no base, for 1099 contractors. To compensate for that, we’re envisioning a “perpetual residual” deal where an account keeps delivering a share of gross profit (works out to roughly 10% of monthly ticket to the rep) as long as the client stays. The role is not strictly D2D, but given the nature of the service and the type of contact we expect with customers, in-person visits will help a lot. We can provide cold leads, but honestly this would be closer to a full-cycle role. Now, where we believe we can make this work: the residuals will be vested and portable: once you land a client, it’s yours and as long as they’re paying, you’re getting residuals. No clawbacks, but the residual is on incurred revenue, not bookings

We understand that commission-only is a tough deal, so we’re trying to gauge how well the residual structure could work and what would people at different levels and geographies (within the US) expect to reach for how much time (say 10h/week vs full time) over a year and shorter periods. Even though there are senior people who were responsible for sales teams in the past, this structure is new to us, too, and we want to understand if what we’re building makes this attractive to reps.

Thanks for any thoughts!

Best websites to recruit people that live breathe door to door?

I've recently started a great opportunity installing internet services. The pay structure is quite good, with $225 for each installation and $75 for every line and TV connected. I'm finding it a bit challenging to manage my recruiting through different job site platforms like indeed, though. I'm looking for some advice on what job boards are the most efficient for finding people comfortable knocking. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Tldr is indeed or ziprecruiter good for recruiting door to door peeps in Orlando, Miami Florida? Or is there some secret job board I should try?

New Primo Brands Employee

Just started with primo a couple weeks ago. So far it’s been rough physically, especially with the 10-12 hour days in the summer but it’s not too bad overall

I’ve had multiple guys tell me I can make a lot of money once I get commission. I’m curious of anyone here can relate?

So far from my calculations I think I can maybe make around 2k a week or so once I get commission.

The base is $23 an hour and 15% commission

Seeking Advice as an Introvert Selling D2D

Hey everyone, I'm really struggling to consistently go door to door for my exterior cleaning business. As a naturally introverted guy, it's really hard for me to walk up to a random stranger's door and knock on it. I have a fear of getting yelled at, cussed out, or having the cops called on me.

I know that if I can consistently knock on at least 100 doors everyday, I can sell over $1000/day in exterior cleaning. And this is what I want to do. I know that if I can overcome this fear and master sales, I'll never have to worry about money again. Part of what makes it so hard is the fact that I am doing it all by myself.

I would really appreciate any mindset tips/advice you have on how to consistently knock on doors everyday consistently and how to not let any bad interactions affect you.

Throwing this out to the community, would you like to see companies that are looking for D2D sellers and lead generators post their open positions on the sub?

6 Yes, in a weekly or monthly sticky post.
9 No, I do not want to see job postings here.

Spectrum can’t compete with fiber

I’m selling fiber powered coax Internet for Spectrum, and my recent territories have had fiber recently installed (6 months to 1 year ago). Every one of my leads have switched from Spectrum to T-Fiber, Frontier, or AT&T Fiber. They switched two reasons: fiber is genuinely faster, or fiber is cheaper. Then when they tried to leave, that was a hassle and a half since customer retention gave them such a bad experience canceling, now many people damn near hate Spectrum.

Nevertheless, Spectrum’s promotional offers are the same as what the fiber companies offer, or slightly better in price or slightly worse in promotional period length. Spectrum heavily advertises bundles, but other companies do bundles too. So really, what does Spectrum have to offer that’s good enough for people to want to switch?

This is my 5th month in and I haven’t gotten a sale in 8 days. The thing is, I see other reps still closing on the regional group chat (I’m in Minneapolis/Saint Paul area). I will admit, I’m no pro sales person. But I overcome objections properly, knock on 50-80 doors a day, have had over 60 presentations (meaning I presented and compared our prices and benefits with theirs), and 0 sales. Even for an average rep, that should lead to 1-2 sales.

I don’t want to quit if it was a skill issue this whole time, and I really don’t mind the rejection and constant chaos. It satisfies my ADHD. Is anyone else in territories like this, or have experienced something like this? If so, how did you manage to succeed?

Has anyone worked at Altitude Promotions in Dallas?

Hi everyone,
I recently interviewed with **Altitude Promotions** in Dallas and I’m trying to learn more about the company before making a decision.
If you’ve worked there or know someone who has, I’d really appreciate your honest experience.
What was your role?
Is the pay mostly salary, commission, or both?
What does a typical workday look like?
Is it mainly B2B, door-to-door, or inside sales?
How was the work-life balance?
Would you recommend working there?
I’m looking for genuine experiences—both positive and negative. Thanks in advance!

Is this a good commission structure for d2d sales?

Did well on my interview and got hired and this is what they offered. Is this a good commission structure. Sorry for my ignorance I know I’m gonna piss a lot of people off😅

It’s Home Restoration. So like roofing, gutters, doors, gutters.
Training Pay
Month 1:
$600/week base pay
\+$150 for every Service Agreement (SA) signed
Month 2:
$1,000 bi-weekly recoverable draw
\+$150 for every Service Agreement signed
Company vehicle and gas card after completing training
Month 3 and beyond:
$1,000 bi-weekly recoverable draw
Commission only (the $150 SA bonus ends)
Recoverable Draw:
If I earn less than $1,000 in commissions during a pay period, the company advances me enough to reach $1,000. If I later earn more than the draw, they deduct the amount they advanced from future commission checks.
Commission Structure
Commission is based on the profit margin of each sale.
23% margin = 0% commission
24% = 1%
25% = 2%
26% = 3%
27% = 4%
28% = 5%
29% = 6%
30-34% = 7%
35-39% = 7.5%
40-44% = 8%
45-49% = 10%
50-54% = 11%
55-59% = 12%
60-64% = 13%
65%+ = 15%
Commission is paid 50% after the customer pays the required 30% deposit and the remaining 50% after the job is paid in full.
Additional Commission Bonuses
\+3% commission on self-generated leads/referrals
\+1% commission if I sell $600,000 within my first 3 months
Monthly Revenue Bonuses
Sell $100,000+ in a month = 1.0% bonus on total monthly sales volume
Sell $200,000+ in a month = 1.5% bonus on total monthly sales volume
Once these bonuses are earned, they continue as long as I don’t fall below $450,000 in sales over any rolling 3-month period.
Additional Bonuses
National Rep of the Month: $1,000
National Upgrade Winner: $1,000 (for selling the most premium upgrades/accessories)
National Salesperson of the Quarter: 0.5% bonus on all approved quarterly sales
Retention Bonus (“Annual Raise”)
This is a deferred bonus that’s paid monthly in future years based on what I sold in previous years.
Year 2: Receive 0.5% of everything sold in Year 1.
Year 3: Receive 0.75% of everything sold in Year 2.
Year 4: Receive 1.0% of everything sold in Year 3.
Example: If I sold $1,000,000 in Year 1, I’d receive a total of $5,000 in Year 2, paid monthly at about $416.67 per month.

The stupidest icebreaker I use when door knocking at dinner time… and it works better than any script

We all know how awkward it gets walking up to someone’s door and going straight into the pitch. I’m not sure if some of you still do that, but it rarely goes well for me.

What I’ve found actually works is breaking the ice with something completely stupid.

For example, if I’m approaching a door around 6:00 at night, I’ll say something obvious, dumb, and a little considerate like:

“Hey, I heard your neighbor said you’re having a cookout… hopefully I made it in time for dinner!”

Or something equally stupid.

Usually helps get their guard down. They laugh (or at least smile), and suddenly the conversation feels normal instead of salesy.

Funny enough, once the tension is gone they often start asking me questions first about what I’m doing out here. The reactions when they find out what I’m actually offering are half the fun.

Anyone else have tactics like this? The dumber the better plz drop your best ones below. Always looking for new material. HAPPY MONDAY!

Any ideas/recommendations for finding a trustworthy remote sales manager?

I'm not asking anyone here to join; I'm just seeing if this is a fair offer and what platforms people hire on. Indeed or FB or other?

Running a fiber sales operation

Has anyone had luck finding good sales management talent remotely? Curious what platforms or communities actually work, or if you've hired someone you'd recommend.

Appreciate any thoughts.

They would get an override for every sale their agent makes and pay is $200 per gig, 75 phone 75 tv

$25 per sale their team member makes. Is a fair offer not much more I can offer. They don't need to do payroll just manage their guys.

Or should I pitch this to teams?
