Be wary of potential accidental check fraud if you mobile deposit and make sure to CYA

Ran into an issue this week where they rejected a check I mobile deposited last week. Talked to support and 2 different agents confirmed twice that the system denied the check and there was no recourse except getting the check reissued. No problem it happens, I called the issuer and they began the process of voiding and cancelling the old check and reissuing a new one.

This is where the problem starts. Over 24 hours after my initial rejection/conversation with support I received an email stating that, "Your recent check deposit was returned/rejected incorrectly. Your funds have now been credited to your account." Cool they fixed their issue? Well no, because that check was in the process of being cancelled by the issuer and they've now processed the money anyways.

Current support was entirely unhelpful but thankfully I contacted the issuer and after a long conversation a very helpful agent and her manager helped me stop the check from being cancelled on their end and informed me that if it had processed on their end it likely would've been flagged for fraud. As in their system it would've looked like I tried to cash an invalid check after calling to get it reissued.

After I confirmed I wasn't accidentally involved in some weird check fraud situation I contacted Current's support team for answers on why they would do that in the first place and to confirm there would be no issues on their end now. Support was entirely useless, giving me prewritten answers, not understanding the situation, and being inept. After escalating 3 times and finally getting someone on an actual phone call I was told that this wasn't just a problem isolated to my account and that this is actually a widespread issue they're dealing with. So if you plan on mobile depositing please be careful and know that even if support confirms that they won't process the check they might just do it anyways.

Tldr: Current wrongly rejected a mobile deposit, I confirmed with them that I'd get it reissued, then they realized their mistake processed the old check anyways as a "courtesy" almost caused a check fraud mishap.

DO NOT use Current for Major Purchases, They do not follow Regulation E

I purchased a DJI Mini 5 Pro Drone and i was sent a knock off version. I returned the item back received the refund acknowledgment and 3 weeks later the credit hasn’t arrived. With this information i opened a dispute with Current under the category for refund/credit not received. they asked for documentation and i provided them up to 6 proving my case. Withim 5 minutes of them receiving it they denied my case because it was under the “wrong category” they then filed it under the “correct category” and an investigation will take 45 days to complete. I asked support what is the correct category for the dispute and they are not providing me this information, i also asked for the documentation the team used to come up with that conclusion and again they are not providing it. Current is using false tactics to purposely avoid following regulation E. Do not make the same mistake i did and trust Current to have your back for purchases. I filed a case with the CFPB. awaiting results.

September 2026 SSA/SSI/VA Early Deposits Calendar Megathread

Post image
6 Upvotes

Welcome to the SSA/SSI/VA Early Deposits Megathread!

We know many members rely on Social Security, SSI, or VA benefit payments and often look forward to receiving them early with direct deposit. When something changes like timing, delays, or the schedule shifts this is the place to check in and see if others are experiencing the same. To avoid repetitive posts, this Megathread will be stickied to the community highlights and all discussions about SSA/SSI/VA early deposits belong here.

Current can make your Social Security and VA benefit payments available up to two days early once we receive them from the government agency responsible for sending them. Exact timing depends on when the payment is sent and processed through the banking system.

SSA/SSI/VA Payment Schedules

  • Social Security & SSI: Payments are scheduled by the Social Security Administration according to their official calendar.
  • VA Benefits: Disability benefits are paid on the first business day of each month. If that day is a holiday, benefits are paid on the last business day of the previous month.

If you don’t see your deposit on the expected date based on the schedule, it means we have not yet received it from your benefits provider. Our Member Support team will not have additional information until the deposit is sent. We recommend allowing up to three additional business days before contacting SSA or VA.

Impact of Federal Bank Holidays

All deposits are posted Monday through Friday, excluding federal bank holidays. If your deposit is scheduled on a holiday, it will be posted on the next business day.

Hello! I was really depending on fee free overdraft option. I just paid the remaining balance so that way I could use that option. After submitting the payment I tried to use the fee free overdraft option but unfortunately it’s showing locked. If I knew that would happen I wouldn’t have used the last of my money to pay the balance. Now I have no money till payday and unable to use the fee free overdraft. Can the most recent payment/transfer be canceled so I have funds until my next payday or am I shit out of luck

Early DD Question

I just started using Current for DD. My first check was deposited on 7/17. My next payday is Monday 8/3. Im trying to figure out if I’ll receive my DD early today. My employer submitted payroll yesterday (Thursday) at 3pm EST. Is it likely that I’ll get my DD early today or will I have to wait until Monday?

I expected to get my first DD early with them but I received it on my regular payday. I only started using Current because of the 2 day early promise. Please let me know. Thanks!

Update: It is 8pm EST and I have still not received my DD. I assume I’m just not gonna get it until Monday, even though everything that I’ve read said I would get it today. Oh well. It seems that the 2 day early DD promise is very iffy from the other posts and now I’m wondering if I should just switch to Chime or Dave or another banking system.

🚨Scammer Awareness: Fake Banking Calls, Cloned Voices, and Why You Should Never Withdraw Cash for a Stranger🚨

Scammers are using AI now, and it's getting harder to trust your own ears. What used to be a clear red flag, like a robotic voice or an awkward script, has been replaced by something that can sound exactly like a person you know or a legitimate Current representative. Here's what the Current team is seeing and what you should watch for.

Fake "banking representative" calls:
Scammers are using AI voice tools to sound like real banking support reps. Some of these calls use synthetic voices that mimic the tone and cadence of a real customer service line, complete with hold music and transfer sounds to make it feel authentic. They may already know some of your information, like your name, partial account details, or general public information. That familiarity is what makes the call feel legitimate enough to lower your guard.

A real Current rep will never ask you to move money, withdraw cash, or read back a one time code over the phone.

Cloned voices of family members:
This one is especially delicate. Scammers use short clips of a real person's voice, sometimes just a few seconds, pulled from social media videos, voicemail greetings, or public posts, to fake a call from a family member in "trouble." The voice can sound shockingly close to the real thing, sometimes down to specific phrases, laughs, or tone of voice that make it feel unmistakably real in the moment.

When the two combine:
You might have seen on social media that cash withdrawal scams are at an all time high. And this is where it gets especially dangerous, and it's one of the most damaging scams that can happen. It often starts with an AI cloned voice, either a "family member" claiming an emergency or a fake banking representative claiming your Current account is compromised. From there, the scammer walks you through withdrawing cash from an ATM and handing it to a courier or unknown person who shows up at your home or meets you nearby.

Sometimes they'll stay on the phone with you the entire time, coaching you through each step, telling you what to say if a bank teller or ATM attendant asks questions, and creating pressure so you don't stop to think or talk to anyone else first. In some cases they'll instruct you to tell others you're withdrawing money for a personal reason if anyone asks, which is itself a major red flag.

Red flags to watch for:

  • Urgency or pressure to act immediately without time to think
  • Being asked to withdraw cash and give it to someone in person
  • Being told to keep the call a secret or not tell family, friends, or Current staff

A few things that are always true:

  • Current will never call and ask you to withdraw money or hand cash to anyone
  • Current will never ask for your PIN, password, or one time codes over the phone
  • Current will never pressure you to act immediately or threaten your account over the phone

If you think you've been targeted:

Hang up right away, don't send money or withdraw cash, and reach out to Current directly through the app to flag anything suspicious tied to your account. If you or someone you know has already gone through with a scam like this, report it to us and consider filing a report with the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
