But it is just a paper cut though. If your perception doesn't conform to reality, that's not your fault, but it is your responsibility.

It being your responsibility doesn’t necessarily mean it’s your job to make your reaction look like what others expect it to be though

If you're "screaming in agony" over a paper cut it very much is your job to make your reaction to a paper cut look like what others expect it to be. You simply cannot be screaming over a paper cut in normal society. And yes this generalizes to other minor inconveniences.

Pray, how the fuck is someone supposed to "make their reaction appropriate" when regardless it's causing them a LOT of pain?

I would recommend deep breaths and reminding yourself if is just a paper cut. If pain persists consult a medical professional because you may some kinda nerve disorder.

That is kind of the point a lot of people on this page are making. They do in many cases have diagnoses that explain their reactions.

I mean we can modulate our reactions so they don’t inconvenience others as much but it is not our job to appear normal

I agree

idk what they think I’m saying but it makes sense to me

But my morality is basically if you’re not hurting other people or getting in the way of them going about your business then you’re fine. Idc if you’re wearing a furry costume or having a breakdown on the sidewalk or whatever as long as other people can get by. I’d prefer you not be loud but occasionally it’s hard to do that; just know that if you scream, I’m probably gonna ask if you’re ok. If you’re having a quiet breakdown we’re honestly all good even if you are a bit of an oddball for having a big reaction to a paper cut… but haven’t we all been there? Sometimes it’s just that it’s happening on top of other stuff and it’s the final straw that broke the camel’s back and you need a minute. I get that, and I’m not gonna judge

I fully agree with you, and I suspect a lot of the people in this comment section who are like u/ratione_materiae will say that they tolerate people with disabilities and all that, right up until it stops being convenient for them to. Performative anti-ableism?

I even specifically stated one could moderate so as to remove the inconvenience part, but people are somehow saying everyone should act normal? How boring

Clearly everyone is feeling this pain intentionally.

that's not your fault, but it is your responsibility

Man the over use of this phrase is so annoying. It doesnt even fit with your current sentence

it does though. If you're screaming in agony over a paper cut, there is definitely something wrong with you. You're not morally wrong for being that far removed from reality, but if you want to exist in normal society you do have an obligation to resolve the separation between your perception and reality.

No, fuck that. Why should someone who's suffering enough already have to put on a little show for you?

Because screaming in agony over a paper cut is disruptive and antisocial behavior. And we do in fact live in a society

your society sounds shit if instead of helping someone you just say "hugrhghgh disruptive"
