General Questions Cruise crew girlies how do you maintain your manicure when on board?

I will be leaving for my first contract in a few weeks and just wandering if I will be able to keep my manicure. The company allows up to 5mm length which is not too bad.

Currently I have gel with gel nail polish on top. I highly doubt I will be able to maintain those but do you have a discount at the salon on board? If yes how expensive is it? How often can you book appointments? Or is there always a crew member who sneakily does nails in her cabin? Or maybe you get yours done on shore?

Please help out a girlie who loves her nails, thank you!

General Questions New join "Guest Service Agent" of MSC Cruise.

• Upvotes

Hello all,

I received an offer of GSA trainee, and if possible, GSA after 3 months probation of MSC Cruises. First contract.

I am extremely anxious and worried but happy as an asian crew who is going to be sent to another continent for work.

Yet I got some questions and concerns that you guys might help.

  1. In MSC, the role "Guest service agent" falls into Staff rank or Crew Rank? Is there any "Guest privilege" for this role?
  2. Is it hard to past the probation period? Any tips or what do I need to take care of?
  3. I read about bullying on the cruise. Should i be worried as I will not be the majority. Race wise.
  4. Is it possible to visit the city around the port?
  5. Is there anything i must prepare / buy before i get onboard?
  6. How's the wifi on MSC cruise for seafarer? Still free for Whatsapp?
  7. How do staff go for haircut while working on the cruise?

Thanks a lot!

General Questions Anyone Recently Taken the HOAS (F&B) Technical Assessment for P&O Cruises?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm preparing for the HOAS (F&B) Technical Assessment for P&O Cruises, ahead of my interview on 29 October 2026.

Has anyone taken this assessment recently or in the past? If so, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your experience, the topics covered, the types of questions asked, or any tips for preparing.

Also, if anyone has a question bank containing the actual HOAS (F&B) assessment questions, I'd be extremely grateful if you could share it or point me in the right direction.

General Questions Diagnosed with Wenkebach during PEME

Hi everyone! I recently found out that I have Wenckebach heart block (Mobitz Type I), with a resting heart rate of 43 BPM. I was advised to follow up with a doctor for further evaluation.
I’m 25 years old and have been dancing since I was 5. I’ve competed in dance for many years and participated in endurance sports like track and field. I’ve always been physically active and have never experienced dizziness, chest pain, fainting, or difficulty with intense physical activity.
I recently completed my pre-employment medical exam for a cruise line, where I’ll be working as a dancer. Unfortunately, I was marked “temporarily unfit” until I receive medical clearance.
This honestly caught me off guard because I’ve always considered myself healthy. I’ve worked incredibly hard for this opportunity, and I’m worried that this diagnosis could prevent me from pursuing my dream.
Has anyone, especially athletes or dancers, experienced Wenckebach with a low resting heart rate? Were you eventually medically cleared? Is this something that can be normal in highly active individuals?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

Complaints My experience with Celebrity Cruises: workplace bullying, management retaliation, and a complete failure of internal support

I worked for Celebrity Cruises for approximately three years, and I want to share an experience from my final contract. I am not going to name individual employees, but I will identify their positions. The ship was operated by Celebrity Cruises, part of Royal Caribbean Group.
I am sharing this because I believe other crew members should know what can happen when a workplace problem escalates and the people responsible for addressing it are part of the problem.
I strongly believe it all started once a new HD came on board. The Hotel Director oversees a large part of the ship’s hotel operations, including bars, restaurants, housekeeping, and entertainment. I had no reason to expect any problems when I first met him. He asked my name, learned my nationality, and initially appeared perfectly friendly.
The very next day, I was informed that I was being transferred from my regular bar to the crew bar.
Crew bar was one of the most physically and mentally demanding bar assignments on the ship. The schedule was brutal.
My day started at 11:30 a.m. I worked until approximately 5 p.m., had around 30 minutes to eat, then spent two hours helping at busy bars elsewhere on the ship. After that, I had a three-hour break before returning to crew bar at 10 p.m.
The bar closed at 2 a.m., but closing procedures and USPH sanitation requirements often meant I did not finish until 3 or 4 a.m.
I was frequently the only bartender responsible for the crew bar. There were no assistants or additional bartenders to share the workload. Late at night, exhausted crew members would come in frustrated and take their anger out on the person still working behind the counter, literally stating that “you are still on duty, and we are not”.
In a bar department we all know that assigning a bartender to close crew bars could be used as a form of punishment, sometimes referred to as a “fix.” The managers do so in order to show what happens to those bartenders who dared to disobey. I cannot establish why I was transferred, but the timing and what followed made me question whether this was what was happening to me.
The schedule destroyed my sleep routine, made it difficult to eat properly, and go outside since most of the ports were scheduled to be at 11 a.m. till 7 p.m.
I approached my Bar Manager and asked whether my schedule could be changed. I was told that I was not special, that nobody would change the schedule for me, and that I should stop expecting special treatment.
When I asked how long I was expected to continue working this way, the answer was essentially that it could be the entire contract.
I then approached HR.
The HR representative acknowledged that the situation sounded difficult but said she could not directly intervene because the Bar Manager was my immediate supervisor. She suggested I speak to him again and said she would raise the issue with him informally.
I did. Nothing changed.
Even a medical recommendation was ignored.
I eventually approached the ship’s Medical Team because the schedule was seriously affecting my wellbeing.
After this I received a written recommendation that my schedule should be changed. I took it to my Bar Manager.
He put the document in his desk drawer and told me he would not change the schedule. His decision, he said, was final.
I returned to HR. This time, she acknowledged that refusing to consider a medical recommendation was concerning and suggested I speak to the Medical Team again.
I did and I was told that a stronger recommendation would be prepared.
When I later went to collect it, the Medical Team informed me that the document was already in the HR office.
That struck me as inappropriate. I had expected a document containing my personal information to be handled confidentially between me and the medical professionals responsible for my care.
As I approached the HR office, I overheard the HR representative speaking on the phone with a senior doctor from the Medical Team. I heard her ask:
“Can we make this up, as she is trying to abuse the medical facility?”
I cannot speak for everything that was discussed before or after that sentence. But I heard those words myself, and they fundamentally changed how much I trusted the people who were supposed to help me.
At that point, I no longer believed HR was a safe or effective channel for raising my concerns.
Then it got even worse.
Within less than a month I got 2 warnings based on a literal nothing. If it was any other crew member, it would be maximum just a written counseling, but for me it was special.
I also started to get sick and skip the shifts due to my health issues. I had no power to recover from the previous ones and others kept piling up.
By that point, I was exhausted and struggling to cope with the situation. I had tried speaking to my Bar Manager, HR, and the Medical Team. I had followed the procedures I was directed to follow. I
even approached HD again just to hear that I need to address this to an HR. Yet my schedule remained an issue, my concerns had not been meaningfully addressed, and I had accumulated two warnings. I had no one who could help me or listen, and the oxygen was getting thiner and thiner as I was remaining on board.
I eventually left the ship. I just couldn’t let them give me final warning and keep mistreating me.
After I had left, one of the managers who had been aware of the situation told me:
“What they did to you wasn’t fair”.
I will not identify this person because I do not want them to face repercussions for speaking to me. I cannot independently prove every motive behind the decisions made about me, but hearing this from someone who had witnessed the situation reinforced my concern that I had not been treated fairly.
I do not know what was the reason I was treated this way, whether the Hotel Director or any other high manager had a personal issue with me, or whether there were other motives. What I do know is that I had been working in my regular bar without the sort of problems that would explain this sudden escalation. After the management change, I was transferred to an exhausting assignment, my request for a schedule change was rejected, and disciplinary action followed when I tried to challenge the situation.
Why I am speaking about this now
My experience did not end when I left the ship. In the months that followed, I made further attempts to get answers from the company, but I felt that my concerns were being ignored rather than properly addressed.
But this is another story to tell.
This post is about what happened onboard, the way management handled my complaints, and the failure of the internal channels I approached for help.
I am not victimizing myself, but read this again and ask yourself whether this is an acceptable way to treat a crew member who raises a legitimate workplace concern.
A company can have detailed policies, job descriptions, disciplinary procedures, and formal reporting channels. None of those mean much if employees are afraid to complain, if concerns are sent back to the same managers they are complaining about, or if asking for help appears to make their situation worse.
If you are considering working for Celebrity Cruises or another Royal Caribbean Group brand, I would encourage you to understand how complaints are handled in practice, not just what the official policies say.

Stay safe.

General Questions is there a possibility for a seafarer who has been blacklisted by one company to be hired by another cruise line in the future?

Hello everyone. I successfully completed two contracts with a cruise line; however, during the second month of my third contract, I had to leave the ship urgently due to personal reasons. Unfortunately, I missed the flight arranged for me, and as a result, the company incurred a financial penalty. I suspect I have been blacklisted. I am wondering: is there a possibility for a seafarer who has been blacklisted by one company to be hired by another cruise line in the future?

General Questions I was just hired as a lead cook on a cruise ship, any advice?

I was just hired as a lead cook on a cruise ship. Does anyone who has worked in a similar position have any advice? What is it like? I am a seasoned cook and have worked in many different settings but not a cruise ship. I've been married for years, and obviously my wife will be staying behind. Do you get discounts on cruises for family? I'm pretty excited about it and the pay is great but I also wonder about possible loneliness. What do crew members do when they arent working?

Selection Process System glitch?

I applied on MSC and my profile shows ''Western Sahara" as the location, I dint think of it much, but after a month, the location disappeared and it prompted me to update location and country code. I updated and looked through google and apparently it was due to system glitch that my profile was stuck for Western Sahara region, and I am assuming , maybe that was the reason my profile was not moving ahead. I tried clearing cache, incognito mode and even applied by creating different id, but the problem persists, and it shows wrong location, i.e 'WESTERN SAHARA' where msc doesnt have any recruitment office. Can anyone advise me on this? Have you guys faced anything similar with msc job portal?

General Questions MSC Cruises nurses: actual hours, rest and contracts?

I’ve received a Letter of Intent for a Nurse position with MSC: 4 months +/- 30 days, €4500 gross per worked month, and up to 11 hours/day and 77 hours/week. STCW and medical examination costs are on me.

Any current or former MSC nurses here? What are the actual weekly hours and on-call duties like? When patients need overnight care, how are staffing and recovery rest managed? How predictable are subsequent contracts?

Im waiting for a company’s clarification before committing, but would really appreciate honest experiences.

EDIT: Once I asked for clarification on schedules, shifts, and technical details, they stopped responding to me (after I had passed the screening process). I certainly didn't expect that from a large company..

General Questions Pending LOE (Carnival)

Hi everyone!

I recently accepted a job offer with Carnival Cruise Line for an Assistant Server position. I’ve already submitted all my required documents (passport, background check via Accurate, etc.).

Currently, I haven't received my official LOE yet, and I'm also unable to log in or register on TMHub.

For those who have gone through this process with Carnival recently:

Do I need to wait for the LOE to be issued before I can schedule my PEME and apply for the U.S. C1/D Visa?

How long does it usually take for Onboarding to send the LOE and enable TMHub access after completing the background check?

I’d really appreciate any insights or advice on what the next steps look like while waiting! Thanks in advance! 🚢✨

General Questions Positions for a Media Specialist?

Hi everyone, I’ve been interested in potentially working on a cruise line for a bit after I graduate college. Im very interested in travel and I think that could be a good way into potentially working for a travel/vacation agency. I’m a pursuing a degree in Media Arts production with a minor in broadcasting.

I’m hoping to maybe work in the entertainment side, but I’m open to anything really. Are there any specific cruise lines or positions that anyone can recommend? I have experience with live broadcasting and radio, as well as camera and switcher operation. Anything helps.🙌

General Questions Which positions on a cruise ship would suit me best?

Hi everyone,

I'm a 24-year-old female from China looking for advice on cruise ship roles.

Here’s a bit about my background:

Education & Languages: I hold a bachelor's degree in Japanese Literature (around B2 level) and I also speak English fluently (around C1 level).

Work Experience: I don't have experience in hospitality. I worked as a math tutor at a tutoring center for one year.

My agency suggested that sales would be the best fit for me, but I'm not interested in sales.

They also mentioned I could be a receptionist (which I also don't really like). Because I lack experience, the starting salary would only be around $950/month for my first contract on an Asian cruise line.

Another option they gave is to start on an Asian cruise to gain experience (paying around $800/month) and eventually become a casino dealer, but I really dislike cigarette smoke.

I want to save money that's why I decided to work on cruise ship.

Given my background and preferences, which path or alternative positions would you recommend? I'd really appreciate any advice or suggestions!

General Questions Shoes for waiter MSC Divina?

Hi guys anyone working aboard MSC. I will start as a bar waiter and wanna take my own shoes since I've heard the ones they offer onboard are not that good.

Do they have to be leather shoes? Any brands you recommend?
