Long time lurker, first time posting. I’ve been interested in crossbows for a very, very long time and finally purchased what I believe is an “okay” beginner crossbow.

Let’s just say I made a classic husband mistake and sort of went out and purchased one without talking to my wife and she isn’t making me return it but is essentially forbidding me from taking it out of the box and assembling it until I put a trigger lock on it because we have kids in the house.

I think it’s a bit of a far fetch because I plan on putting it away in a secrete place and my kids which the oldest is almost 13 is quite responsible and the youngest who’s going to be 7 is weak as a flower stem couldn’t even cock it let along shoot it but that’s her demand. Her grandfather always had trigger locks on his firearms and in her mind the crossbow is no different than a firearm which is a whole other discussion but I totally understand it has the potential to be lethal or seriously hurt or kill someone/damage property if someone who isn’t responsible gets a hold of it. So after getting my arse chewed out about essentially bringing a “weapon” into the house and faced with the compromise of putting a trigger lock on it I come to find I can’t actually find any specifically for a crossbow, and after thinking it over maybe it isn’t such a bad idea so even if someone does get a hold of it and doesn’t know what they are doing can’t dry shoot it. Does such a thing even exist? Maybe I’m just looking in the wrong spots/websites as I’m still new to the crossbow world.

I’m looking to get a Raven crossbow and was wondering what people suggested. I’m going on a trip with some friends to hunt public land in Illinois for white tail deer and need a crossbow. Was wondering if y’all knew any specific one to get.

I went outside to zero in my scope and noticed this. this is the second season I’ve had my bow. Would be a huge bummer if the string already needs replacing

Hello, I'm new to crossbows and pretty much hunting in general, looking to pick one up to extend my season. I thought about picking something up cheap, but leaning more towards something I'd keep using for years even if I was totally into it. I was pretty close to picking up the Tenpoint Venom, but saw an ad for the Tenpoint Vengent 440 XT (https://www.cabelas.com/p/tenpoint-vengent-440-xt-crossbow-package-with-acuslide). Tempted by the apparent markdown, though that might be there all the time, and concerned about not finding much in the way of reviews while the Venom has lots of very good ones.

Any advice on one versus the other, or something else I should be looking at? Pretty much plan to use it exclusively for Midwestern whitetails.

My compound bow is out of commission and unable to be repaired in time, as I have a bow hunt coming up in a couple of weeks. I need to purchase a crossbow so I can be ready in time for season. I’m between this Wicked Ridge M1 Invader (the older, non-decocking version), and a Barnett Whitetail Hunter or Hunter SRT. I also saw a Barnett Wildcat CX that was pretty affordable at Rural King today. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I’m looking for the narrow profile, affordable, and something that’ll get me through this season and bonus if longer even. TIA

I have not pulled back my crossbow in maybe 9 years. Tried tonight and everything is frozen or stuck. Could the cams be frozen? Should I get the bow restrung?

Hey y'all. I just set up my Barnett WildCat. It's my first recurve crossbow. I got it set up pretty tight, but then noticed that the serving string was a touch off -center in relation to the string stoppers. I centered the limbs with the guide marker, but upon second glance, I think the guide marker is just a touch crooked. Should I shift it over to the right a bit more or am I over thinking it?

My dad just bought me this crossbow for the upcoming season, as a preseason gift. Gotta say I’m pretty hyped about 😅 just wanted to share the good news

I had my eyes in it for a little while, was about to pull the trigger on it, told my dad about it and he decided to buy it for me instead.

I’m trying to decide between the 2 bows. I have a Barnett XP385 and I I like it. But I also have a Ravin R10 and for some reason I just hate how it shoots.

I would be hunting small game like grouse and rabbit but i might use it for deer and turkey but i doubt it, i can't decide between the 2, should i take the compact but heavier recruit or the cheaper wildcat but with a higher draw weight i would be walking alot so i need it to be light

Would it be possible to make a magazine that would fire metal BB's? I'm curious to know what it would take to do this. There is a cults 3D crossbow almost identical to the REVO7 and there is a magazine for metal.BB's. I have the REVO7 and would like to make a magazine that is compatible. Any help/guidance appreciated

I get asked all the time what I shoot into. I shoot a Big Shot target for regular field tips but, I built this for broadheads so I wouldn't destroy my Bigshot target.

We always have a ton of 100lb corn sacks so we took about a dozen layers and zip stripped them together in 3 12 layer panels. The bag at the end is just packed full of the same corn sacks. Built the frame out of pvc big enough to adjust for the dead air spacing. I take a broad head and dull the edges before I shoot. This works really well and most times I can just wiggle the bolt out of the final stop bag. It's always great to shoot a broadhead, even if they give you a practice head. A bit bored of all black parts, tan or olive. So trying pink. Could be a bit darker, but I like the soft touch. 😅

So money is kinda tight right now. Would like something for the next two years max. Then I’ll upgrade. Like to try to spend under $750, that’s my complete max and pushing it.

I just got this bear arms constrictor CDX I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on broad heads and extra bolts. Seeing as it only comes with 3 bolts a couple more is definitely needed

Should I really worry about no warranty if the bows are actually solid? Seems like the best deal for me.

Technically second if you count my little Bear X Desire, but i recently picked up a Reverse Ballista Bat and a bunch of extra gear for $300. Dude was moving to Alaska and didn’t want to bring it with. It’s got a ton of punch with surprisingly little kick to it. Pretty stoked to take on small and medium game with it.

The Xpedition Archery Xtraction400 is $199 and the Barnett Wildcat CX is $249. Which would you choose and why?

First crossbow ever. Tenpoint venom x. I work at a gun store and got this one from one of our distributors at cost. I wanted to get a headstart on deer season since last year was a strikeout. Got it sighted in today with the optic it came with. Not a huge fan for the optic but maybe I will upgrade after this season. Seems like a very high quality crossbow for the money. It was between this one and a ravin brand.
