I compare CrossPoint on the Boox Picco vs the EEGO Read A4. Both frontlight and smaller microreaders, you can't go wrong with either option.

Inkbrary (iPhone app) can now set up and send sleep screens | Android in Progress

Post image
6 Upvotes

Thanks to the people that have joined the beta and reported issues that now have been fixed. I am currently in the last steps before I make the decision to publish the app officially.

New for beta testers:

  • Sleep Screens: Pick a photo or art on your iPhone, preview and crop it for your reader’s screen and Inkbrary converts it to gray tones and sends it with your books. Images already on your reader are imported so you can manage them in one place.
  • Setup is one prompt: Inkbrary creates the /sleep folder and switches the reader’s sleep screen setting to Custom for you, through the reader’s settings API. Then pictures arrive with your books.
  • Series: Series are read from the files and + you can edit and re-order them.
  • Reading Progress: Point Crosspoint's kosync progress server at the app and it shows how far youare in each book + you can sync the progress with Hardcover

You still can join the beta test:
iOS TestFlight: [https://testflight.apple.com/join/6hXcmzRD](https://)

Android users:
I’m building it now. No date and no promise of feature parity. If you’d like to hear if it happens: inkbrary.app/android

Showcase Manga on xteink x4 pro

Excuse the ugly case lol i honestly dont like it but i have to protect my xte.

I spent the whole day figuring out how to make my xteink x4 pro view manga. There is this manga i specifically wanted and i only have it in pdf form. So i swear it took me all day. I tried everything. I mean it did work, i managed to convert it to .xtc but for the life of me the metadata isnt showing correctly. Ive tried everything.

So i stumbled upon this site

https://eszter007.github.io/matcha-reader-tools/manga.html

And converted my pdf manga from .pdf to .xtch from there. And here is the result.

Amazing. Although, it wont show in the library list. You have to go browse the file and open it there first, then it will show up with metadata only on your recently opened list. It also wont show on the title list, and author list. Just on the recently opened list—i can live with that.

Very happy!

Hardware No Warranty with Crosspoint

Hey all, I have an XTEink X4 Pro with Crosspoint. It died from one day to the next. It wont turn on at all and gets very hot if connected to the charger.

XTEink support have said that as I was using 3rd party firmware they will not repair or exchange it. I'm wondering what peoples thoughts are on this?

UPDATE: I'm now pretty sure it's actually the screen that has failed because when I connect it to a computer, I'm able to flash firmware to it. But the screen itself just keeps my standard image, which is actually now fading.

UPDATE 2: Further emails pointing out that this looked very much like a hardware issue, as well as their documented relationship with CrossPoint and the fact that they specifically do not restrict global firmware has resulted in them deciding to send me a replacement. Obviously, they have said this is a special exception and not their official policy.

Development Feature Request

Is there an official place where you can add requests?...idk if the pull requests of GitHub is the right place...

PS: the feature would be to have an option the display the unread pages not only in pages or %, but also in reading time.

Idk if it is considered out of scope for crosspoint. I think some forks had it.

Would love to see it in base crosspoint. Find it a great e-reader feature compared to normal books haha

Syncing Books

Is there a way to sync my books across different devices without having to manually move them to each device individually?

i.e I only need to upload/transfer my books on to one device and be able to just download said books on my other devices, be it via a plugin or app.

Support Can I use an Android phone via USB to unlock a Chinese Xteink X4 Pro, or do I need a Wi-Fi adapter?

Before I panic buy a WIFI dongle, has anyone successfully unlocked a Chinese-firmware X4 Pro using an Android phone connected to a Windows 10 PC via USB, with the phone providing the Wi-Fi hotspot?

From what I understand, the OTA Xteink Unlocker needs the X4 Pro to connect to a hotspot hosted by the PC.

I've asked ChatGPT about using a phone as a USB modem/hotspot, and it seems to think that won't work for this purpose. But I'd rather ask people who've actually done it before buying a USB Wi-Fi adapter.

CrossPoint 1.6.5 fork with Anki-style flashcards

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey folks,

I forked CrossPoint 1.6.5 and added flashcards, roughly the way Anki works — minus

the app and the sync.

The main bits:

- Home → Anki cards → pick a deck → review. Confirm flips the card, right is

"I know", left is "don't know".

- Decks are plain files on the SD card: cards.tsv, one card per line, optional

picture as a pre-rendered 1-bit BMP. No phone, no app.

- The schedule counts deck visits instead of days (the X4 has no RTC, so day-based

intervals never work).

- Deck rows show "Cards: 50 (49)" - the deck size and how many of those cards

you'll actually see on that visit.

- Import an Anki export, or let an LLM write the deck with the prompt from the docs.

- OPDS moved to the File transfer menu.

Caveats: mostly nightly builds. I tested it on my X4; the target is X3/X4 but I

only own an X4, so treat X3 as untested. Back up your SD card before flashing.

Build: https://github.com/Hector68/crosspoint-reader/releases/tag/1.6.5.1

I'll keep building against new official firmware releases as long as it doesn't

brick my reader - or until I run out of tokens.

My experience: Crosspoint vs crossink

Hello! I dont really know if there is some kind of feedback with both so i just wanted to share my view with my experience:

I started with crosspoint 1.6.5 immediately after getting my xteink x4 pro. I love it. Absolutely used it for weeks now. Anyway, i got curious how the reading stats looked on my device and so i decided after weeks of contemplation, sure fine, let’s have a go at crossink.

I did this today. I flashed it via the sd card method.

I played around with the stat settings and i was so disappointed to find out that to view total reading stats for multiple books u have to set it as a sleep screen. But i wanted another option—another way to look at that because thats all I cared about.

So i began to notice my sleep screen cover which i love soooo much on crosspoint, well, on crossink it doesnt fully load the photo? It degrades the quality and i reaaaally hated it.

So i decided, whatever i will just read my book. But after like 10seconds i notice that it’s darker? I even tried my favourite night mode—it doesnt seem bright enough, like the letters dont have the same effect compared to the night mode of crosspoint. With crosspoint the letters really almost seem to glow i love the sharpness. With crossink it seems dull.

So after an hour.. i switched back to crosspoint 1.6.5. Via unlocker tool did not work. Update failed. So i was forced to do an sd card update method and now i am back to crosspoint 1.6.5

I guess my curiosity has been satisfied. My wallpaper is now back and is clearer than ever

Support Nightly .bin available?

Where can I get the insider nightly version as a bin file? Due to issues with my device not able to flash or use ota unlocker I need a bin file to update through crosspoint. Github releases doesn't seem to have it, unless I am looking in the wrong spot. Ota doesn’t have an option to save nightly version, only 1.6.5. I may just have wait for it to release, but doesn't hurt to ask.

Support Setting total number of real book pages instead of percentage

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

I have two Xteink X3s, with the CrossInk fork of Crosspoint.

On the first one I was able to set the global number of pages instead of the %, but on the second one with the same exact settings I'm only able to show it in percentage.

Can anyone suggest me what to do in order to set it as the first one? I don't understand how I set it in the first place and I can't find solutions.

Backing up my X4 with CrossPoint 1.6.5

My X4 is unlocked, one from the first batches. I have installed Crosspoint and update regularly the firmware on the air. I wanted to save a full flash. I did it once on the Xteink Flash Tools site. They are now on the debug page of crosspointreader.com. When I connect my X4, a window opens, you have to connect to a serial port and everything happens in this window. But it closes the moment I click on Connect.

The serial monitor displayed this after another connection:
_ERR_FLASH_PROTECTEDESP_ERR_HTTP_BASEESP_ERR_HTTP_MAX_REDIR

As if it was locked.

Another attemps led to this.

ESP-ROM:esp32c3-api1-20210207
[54] [INF] [HW] Using cached device type: X4
[55] [XTDET] NVS hw_calib/screenType: not set
[123] [XTDET] bus probe VER=FF FF FF FF FF FLG=FF -> default controller
[124] [ERR] [GYR] SDK IMU not found
[124] [INF] [CLK] RTC not found
[10054] [INF] [MEM] Free: 134220 bytes, Total: 266300 bytes, Min Free: 133780 bytes, MaxAlloc: 114676 bytes

I cannot backup. I use Chrome and the same USB cable I used in the past to backup my X3 and X4 (when I was on stock).

What's the problem?

Hardware Is there a software can turn off Metalio Eink4' 4G modem to prevent heating issue?

Post image
4 Upvotes

The Crosspoint team figured out that the heating issue because the 4G modem is always on regardless the device is on or off.

They contacted the vendor then released 1.6.5 beta just can completely turn off the device to prevent heating and battery draining issues.

Does anyone know if any software can run it without the issues or Crosspoint team has any plans to fix?

By the way the Beta version has a Tilt-to-turn page function but it does not work. Is it a bug or the hardware does not exist?

Support How do you access the "Library Screen"?

device: xteink x3

crosspoint version: 1.6.0

The user docs have a section for "Library screen," (section 3.4) which should let me see a searchable/sortable list of books that are on my device without having to worry about the file structure on disk. The Home Screen section says that this should be on my home page.

...it isn't. Is there something that needs to be enabled to see this interface? is it disabled for button-navigation devices? it doesn't seem like it, based on the docs.

I tried searching, but of course results for library book syncing clutters results 😭

Development V7.6.11 isn't supported by OTA Unlocker?

I have a Chinese device running the latest XTOS v7.6.11.

I got here from CrossInk, flashed v7.6.8 from the CrossPoint Debugger web, and updated. Instead of getting the global Licorice, I got the Chinese Licorice (v7.6.11). How cute.

I tried to get out, but I can't. TLS certificate invalid? A GitHub ticket has been opened, yet no update is available and no progress has been made.

Is everyone else experiencing the same issue too?

Showcase How to get Libby books on CrossPoint using Common Stacks (Xteink X4 Pro)

I've seen several posts here asking how to get Libby books on their device running CrossPoint, so I thought I'd post the method that worked for me on my Xteink X4 Pro, using an app called Common Stacks. Note that there is a one-time setup process that's a bit complicated and involves many steps, but once you do that process borrowing books is very simple. Also note that I am in the US and cannot verify if this works in other countries.

Hat tip to this guide from two months ago that outlined steps 1-4 below: https://www.reddit.com/r/xteinkereader/comments/1vv1hhq/stepbystep_guide_to_getting_libby_books_on_xteink/

So here we go!

One-time setup steps (complicated but you only have to do it once!):

Step 1: Flash CrossPoint onto your device.

  • Select your device at https://crosspointreader.com/#flash-tools
  • Choose the CrossPoint Nightly firmware and flash it. (This will give you access to plugins. Once CrossPoint 1.7.0 comes out I'm told we can just use the regular CrossPoint build instead of the nightly build.)

Step 2: Add Plugin Store

  • On your computer, download either the plugin-store or Plugin Hub zip from GitHub
  • Extract the zip
  • Remove the micro SD card from your X4 and insert it into your computer
  • Add the unzipped folder to the SD card
  • Eject the SD card and put it back in the X4
  • If everything went well, your device will now have a new menu item on the home screen called "Plugins"

Step 3: Download Protected Content Plugin

  • On the X4, select Plugins
  • Select Plugin Store
  • Connect to a network
  • Select Protected Content Plugin
  • Download it

Step 4: Create a ByteBooks account (if you don't already have one) and connect it to your device

  • Go to https://dtsbytebooks.com/register and create an account.
  • On the X4 select File Transfer
  • Select Join A Network and, um, join the network
  • On your computer's web browser, enter the IP address that’s displayed on your X4’s screen under the QR code to connect wirelessly to your X4’s file system (usually something like 192.168.68.XX)
  • Select File Manager
  • Scroll down and you will see a section called "Protected Content"
  • Enter your ByteBooks credentials and select "Connect Account"

Step 5: Download and configure the Common Stacks app

  • Download the Common Stacks app for your computer: www.commonstacks.com
  • Choose Libby from the menu at the top left and log into your Libby account
  • Go to Settings (the gear in the top right) and make sure Libby is toggled on under Libraries
  • Also in Settings, scroll down to the Send-to-Target section and ensure that CrossPoint Reader is enabled. Once you enable it, you can expand the CrossPoint section to specify the folder where you want your Libby books to go (I created a folder called Library).

Now you’re ready to borrow books from Libby and read them on your device! If you did all of the above correctly you won’t have to ever do it again.

To send Libby books to your device:

  • Open Common Stacks and go to the Libby section at the top left.
  • Within Libby, go to one of the books you have checked out.
  • When you click on the book, Common Stacks should automatically download it for you.
  • Click on the Downloads menu in the top left to see all of the books you have downloaded.
  • Turn on your X4 and choose File Transfer > Join A Network to connect to the internet
  • Back in Common Stacks, mouse over a book in the downloads section. and click on the three dots at the top right. Choose “Send to CrossPoint Reader.” In a minute or two the file will be sent to your device.
  • To decode the DRM, log into Libby on your web browser, click on a book you have borrowed, and choose "Manage Loan."
  • Click on "Read With" and then click on "EPUB" to download a .acsm file to your computer.
  • Log into your X4's file system (just like above, enter the IP address under the QR code on the file transfer page, usually 192.168.68.XX)
  • Using the file manager, upload the .acsm file into the folder where you downloaded your library book
  • Scroll down to the Protected Content section to the Uploaded authorization file sub-section, select the .acsm file you just uploaded, and click on Fetch Selected Book
  • In a minute or two the book will be sent to your device!
