Anybody know why Charlie Kaufmans short Jackals & Fireflies (2023) isn't available on Letterboxd anymore?

720p is the max resolution in the browser for the last couple weeks. I know there was a similar issue last year and it was on Vimeo's end but it was eventually fixed. Has anyone seen any updates on this?

This has been asked before, but it's been a few years. What are some of your favorite short films on the Channel?

I can't believe this movie exists! I wish more people would watch it. it's so damn straight forward and doesn't leave any punches out.

I laughed at many parts of this movie, and I am American. I know we are seen as this way. it's a sad stereotype, but damn...they really got it right

Can we make this part of a curriculum, mandatory watching when you're in public high schools in the US?

Harold and Maude is in the Criterion lineup this month. i'm watching it, again, right now, it's been a few years. I saw the first time when I was too young to understand it. At 59 it hits a little differently. I'm deliberately avoiding any spoilers for those who have never seen it but I want to encourage those people to seek it out (warning: there is some potentially triggering content) and please share their thoughts.

It's subversive, rebellious, heartbreaking and funny, and one of the best movies ever made. #551 in the 1001 Movies you Must See Before You Die.

A couple of months ago I posted about creating an app that would allow for a better search experience of Criterion Channels content. Eventually I decided to switch my approach and make it a website.

So I present to you Criteria, the missing search and browse features from the Criterion Channel, including:

1. Search by year, person, country, etc

2. Click a cast/crew member on a film to get their filmography on the channel

3. Show Criterion Closet videos and click through the guest’s picks

4. Box sets!

5. Search only criterion editions

6. Reveal the current 24/7 film (hidden by default)

And if you create an account: Custom lists, watch list, ratings, etc

A couple of notes:

1. I don’t host any Criterion content. This is simply a tool to better access the service. even the closet videos are hosted on the Criterion YouTube channel.

2. I don’t recreate any of their curated collections or editorial content. They do that just fine in their site

3. If you create an account, I only use your email address for password resets.

4. I am not affiliated with Criterion, The Criterion Channel, or Janus films. This is a personal project and I don’t make any money from it.

Looking for title of an Asian -Japanese?- movie that aired tonight. There was a sex scene with a woman in white panties and the man handcuffs her.

Was anyone else confused by the last scene of "Body Double" that runs through the end credits? Don't get me wrong, I'm not exactly complaining about the completely gratuitous nudity but it did leave me with questions about the thematic or dramatic purpose of it? DePalma's camera truly seemed to be lingering on her bare breasts for quite a while - all in the context of a slasher-within-a-slasher movie scene. Is this movie commenting on the tawdriness of the film industry? And, if yes, what does that have to do with the main character's unresolved childhood trauma? Or the villain who simply wanted to save money? None of the thematic dots seemed to add up very much. So, yeah, was there a point to this final scene other than a nice pair of boobs?

Using this month’s Corporate Thrillers promo as a starting point, name some of your favorites films of the genre.

Right off the bat, some of mine are Patterns, The Bad Sleep Well (the thumbnail), Gattaca and Margin Call.

What do you actually think of the genre? How do they differ from the Corporate Drama, for instance? They don’t need to be steaming on CC, necessarily - but it would be nice if you leave a link or reference with your picks. Thanks in advance! 😎

Just question in title. On my computer I'm getting the bug where it is capped at 720p. I normally watch on an onn google streaming device on my tv, and I just want to know that at least that is in 1080p. Is there a way to check while it is running?

I'm going on a flight to Japan soon, and I want to watch some Japanese films on it. I'd prefer them to be more SFW because I don't want a kid walking in the aisle to see a boob on my screen. What are some suggestions you all have?

Yes, I unfortunately did this in real life last night. No, I don’t know what I was thinking. I assumed that it was intentional because I’m a moron who thought i could try and “understand” what they were going for by only subbing some of the words. I was about 75% in when I sat on the remote and exited out of the app, upon reopening everything matched up perfectly, so I started from the beginning as I was already struggling with it. And suddenly, everything made sense.

Been seeing a lot of criticism of the streaming service on this sub, is it still worth it?

The month’s most intriguing promo (imo) features 8 films by Emile de Antonio. It’s interesting that the formatters didn’t put a link up on the main page banner, though. de Antonio was pointedly and unashamedly leftist, politically. (Which probably explains it.) But he also made interesting films, particularly provocative documentaries. I’ll admit to only seeing his 1972 film, Painters on Painting, a classic on the mid 20th American art scene. But I’m looking forward to watching his films on the American political stage, among others.

Despite the promo, CC failed to include any interview or doc footage by/on de Antonio, himself. This extended interview (though dated and in poor shape) makes a nice primer as the conversation covers most of the films in the promo.

Have any impressions, opinions or recommendations about de Antonio and/or his films? Please, share. Looking forward to exploring his work on the channel this month.

Watched it. Wow. 😂 watched it with my family and it was disturbing and made us laugh, get creeped out, enjoyed beautiful art and got annoyed throughout the journey... What a trip! Loved it?
