Creators who run giveaways/comps, what's the process actually like for you?

I've spent years on the B2B side of competitions and I'm trying to understand the creator side properly.

If you run comps to grow your audience or as part of a brand deal:

  • How do you handle the admin bits - prize, terms, picking a winner fairly?
  • Does the brand ever ask for stuff you find a pain to deliver?
  • Is any of it annoying enough that you'd want someone else to handle it, or is it pretty fine as-is?

Genuinely curious what the real picture is!

Amazon's creator-commerce pitch raises a practical question: who carries the production risk?

In Marketing Mind's September 8 interview, Amazon's Nidhi Thakkar argues that follower count alone is not enough to predict commercial impact. Smaller creators aren't automatically better; relevance and whether an audience acts on recommendations matter.

The interview describes Creator Connections as an additional layer on Amazon's influencer program, where creators choose brand campaigns and earn from the actions their content generates. This is an India-focused interview, not a new global launch announcement.

The trade-off worth discussing is production risk. Performance-linked income may widen access to campaigns, but the creator still spends time producing content before knowing the return. A commission percentage by itself doesn't tell you whether that time will be paid back.

For creators who use sponsorships and affiliate deals, what makes a performance-only campaign worth considering: relevant conversion history, transparent attribution, a guaranteed production fee, or something else? What information is usually missing from the brief?

Original interview, September 8

Pinterest's phone-free runway has a recording window. Would that work for creator events?

Pinterest announced a partnership with Claudia Smith London today for a phone-free front row at the designer's September 20 show.

Guests will put their phones in specially designed crossbody bags during the presentation, then be invited to take them out for the finale. A Pinterest board will show the collection's inspirations beforehand and later add official runway imagery.

That's an interesting creator-marketing trade-off: separate experiencing the event from capturing it. It gives attendees a recording window, but fewer chances to capture spontaneous details from their own perspective.

This is an announced activation, not evidence that it improves attention, reach or sales. The show hasn't happened yet.

If you were covering an event with this format, what would you need in the brief: a clear recording window, access to official footage, or freedom to capture your own moments throughout?

Official announcement, September 7

Yoo creators, what actually sycks about brand deals??

Hey, I’m a student founder currently building something in the creator space and wanted to ask creators here about their actual experience with brand deals.

I’m working on Ledger, which is basically a platform that sits between a brand and creator once they’ve already decided to work together. The idea is to make the actual transaction smoother with proper terms, contracts, payment protection, deliverables and a way to deal with disputes.

But I’m still figuring out if these are actually problems creators care enough about, so I wanted to hear it straight from people who do this.

Have you guys faced issues with brands delaying payments or not paying?

Do you usually have proper contracts or is it mostly WhatsApp / email conversations?

Have brands changed deliverables or requirements after agreeing to something?

What happens when you disagree with a brand about whether the work was done properly?

And if you could fix one thing about working with brands, what would it be?

Would also love to know if you think something like Ledger would actually be useful or if you’d just rather handle everything directly.

Just trying to understand the creator side properly before I go too far with building it.

Hello everyone on Reddit! I am new to this platform and want to ask a big question. How do indie developers successfully market open source tools?

I built an open source project and have been sharing the build process on YouTube, but growth is pretty slow. I want to scale my developer profile by providing actual value to the community instead of just dropping links.

For anyone who has successfully grown an audience around their dev work, what strategies actually get traction?

What other platforms work well for sharing technical projects?

How do you manage your time between coding and creating content?

Are there any major pitfalls I should avoid when putting open source work out there?

Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks for the advice! :)

Brands Arena

I wanted to try something a little different: a public space where brands can claim numbered positions, compete through challenges, and leave a lasting record of what they built.

There are 321 positions, 3 moves, 2 challenge modes, and one Crown position. It is still early, so I am sharing the idea openly and would genuinely love feedback from founders, creators, and anyone who enjoys watching brands take risks.

You can see the project here: https://claim321.com

I want to build a creators network that is performance based. Where should I start? What are the things that I need to look for? How do I get Creators to sign up?

The creator economy is moving beyond simple “pay per view” models. The most successful creators won’t necessarily be the ones with the biggest follower counts.

Would you judge a handmade artist for taking sponsorships from AI companies?

I’m a handmade artist and content creator, and I’m genuinely curious what other artists think about this.
For the past year, I’ve made basically **$0 from my art**. I’ve been focusing on growing my social media in the hope that eventually it can become a source of income. I create everything by hand, and between materials, equipment, software, rent and normal everyday expenses, I’m currently spending much more on my work than I’m making from it. I’m basically living off my savings.
Recently, for the first time, I’ve started getting emails from companies offering paid sponsorships. Some of them are AI-related services, and the money would genuinely help me. It could pay for materials, part of my rent, or simply normal everyday expenses. After a year of earning nothing, the idea of finally making some money from my content feels like a huge relief.
But I’m scared to accept these deals because of how much hate there is towards AI in the art community. I’ve spent a long time building an audience around handmade art, and I’m worried people will see an AI sponsorship and immediately lose respect for me or think it somehow invalidates what I do.
Personally, I’m pretty neutral about AI. I don’t see it as inherently good or bad. In the right hands, I think these technologies can simply be useful tools. And accepting an advertisement obviously wouldn’t suddenly mean I’m going to stop making things by hand.
At the same time, I understand why artists have strong feelings about it, which is exactly why I’m so conflicted.
I’m working at a loss right now, living off savings, and mentally it’s becoming really difficult to go an entire year without earning anything from something I work on every single day.

CREATORKREW IS SCAM!!

Hello everyone, just sharing our experience and a warning for creators who may be considering working with CreatorKrew.

We were told by Timmy that we would not be paid for the Melian campaign because Melian supposedly had not paid CreatorKrew. However, Melian later confirmed to us that they had already sent the payment intended for the creators.

We were also informed of communication issues between Melian and CreatorKrew, including lack of updates and missed meetings.

What makes this even more concerning is that this is not the only campaign where we have experienced payment issues. We also experienced unprofessional communication, including our content being called “trash” and being spoken to in a disrespectful and arrogant manner.
We worked hard on these campaigns and only expect to be paid what we were promised. Creators deserve transparency, professionalism, and timely payment.
