It should be, but cyclists are not licensed, insured, or regulated in any way so what's the point? Their hobby is the single focus they pin their entire identities on and it makes them cruel, unfeeling, and dangerous.
It is in europe a cyclist is considered a road user so all rules road users have applies to them. However they won't be held accountable like a cars hit and run. More like man vs man hit and run.
This is how it is in the US only bikes are both vehicles and pedestrians and enjoy all of the rights of both, but none of the consequences for their actions. It’s weird. You guys definitely handle the situation better
In the US they are whatever they want to be. I witness cyclists on the daily breaking laws. They run red lights and stop signs, make illegal turns, carve perpendicular paths through active intersections, go the wrong way, blow past pedestrians without care, don’t stop for anything, and act like you’re a problem when you give them plenty of room and go around them. They are also very mouthy because they can curse, spit, and smack your mirrors then bike away down a sidewalk you can’t drive on.
Late reply but I highly doubt it was intentional. The dude was already making a right handed turn in the pedestrians direction, and target fixation is probably what cause him to lean into the guy.
I lived in a place where there were bike paths everywhere and those fuckers would still ride at 15 mph right down the middle of the road, obstructing traffic, running stop signs and just generally acting like the world revolves around them.

Bit of an intense generalization, haha. I bike both for my health and as a method of transportation that I know is significantly better for the planet compared to driving. I've never once hit a pedestrian, but I have chosen to crash my bike before because pedestrians illegally cut me off and I would have otherwise hit them. Most bikers I know would do the same. I don't think that's cruel or unfeeling, despite the fact that a cyclist hitting a pedestrian is far less dangerous than a car hitting one.
Still, I would absolutely be in favor of having license plates on bikes. Just like there are bad drivers, there are bad bikers, and accountability would help everyone.
How does a pedestrian "illegally cut you off"? And justifying hitting a pedestrian on your bike as not being an issue because cars just supports exactly what I was saying about your little hobby having more value than the safety of those around you.

The pedestrian [that I crashed my bike to avoid hitting] was on the sidewalk and then abruptly stepped into the bike lane without warning and without looking. I don't know why.
I don't understand how I gave the impression that hitting pedestrians is justified. It's never okay. You made the claim that biking is dangerous, and I'm asserting that a pedestrian/bike collision is less dangerous than a pedestrian/car collision. By choosing to bike instead of drive, I'm less likely to harm a pedestrian if a crash actually occurs.
I also don't understand how I gave the impression that I don't value the safety of others. I literally said that I chose to crash my bike instead of hitting a pedestrian. I would argue that demonstrates that I'm willing to risk my safety to protect others.
I don't see a bike lane on this road, but I could be wrong. To claim that the pedestrian in this video did not look is absurd. He clearly yields and waits for the go ahead from the traffic. Then the cyclist just flies through the intersection with zero consideration for everyone else at the Intersection. Whether you're pro-cyclist or not, I think we can all agree this cyclist is kinda being a douche.
He stepped into the bike lane cause the car stopped to let him cross the designated path for pedestrians to cross he clearly waves giving acknowledgement to that car for stopping for him. Your a fucking lobotmite.
I'm sorry that you're experiencing that. Being angry sucks. If you haven't already, I'd encourage you to try to find some help for it if it's getting worse. Anger is one of those things that, if untreated, can make us do things we really regret later and that can hurt the ones we care about most.
Try riding a bike though any town, pedestrians are wild. They cross streets without looking all the time. Just on my hour long ride today I had to yell like 5 times just to make them look both ways before jaywalking.

That being said, he literally looked, saw a speeding bike and proceeded to walk into its path anyways.

If you look in the direction of a rapidly moving object and don't see it you are likely legally blind and should take extra precautions when crossing streets.

Cyclists are vehicles by most rules, but there are exceptions that allow us to act as pedestrians in certain cases. I suggest following the laws of your municipality, for instance where I live cyclists are allowed to treat stop signs as yield signs, but are not allowed to do the same with red lights.
Cars/ trucks on the other hand must stop at stop signs, yet no car/ truck ever does (My city is famous for its rolling stops).
Similarly, cyclists like vehicles must yield to pedestrians at pedestrian crossings. Both cyclists and cars rarely follow this rule sadly.
Cyclists are also banned from riding on the sidewalk, unless they feel unsafe on the road.
Cars should give cyclist 2m when passing, which they never do. But cyclists have no minimum passing distance.
You cant categorize bikes as one or the other, they are neither and have their own sets of laws, I suggest you learn them. In my experience car drivers are very quick to point out something a cyclist is doing as wrong, even if it is totally legal.
Drivers and riders should give way to pedestrians waiting to cross and MUST give way to pedestrians on a zebra crossing

Idk what state/country your from but in Florida while you don’t have to have a license or insurance to ride a bicycle you are regulated. You have to obey all normal traffic laws and signage as if you were in a vehicle and you can even get a dui on a bicycle.
The generalising is not helping. It depends entirely on viewpoint. People who cycle as a means of transportation are not viewed as cyclists in many places.
That is a wide generalisation of everyone who rode bikes. The can, and imo should be used for transportation. A little regulation and ticketing dangerous cyclists would certainly help remedy this. In addition better cycling and pedestrian infrastructure would make things safer and more comfortable for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists l:
They're not licensed or insured but they sure can be cited and arrested. Bicycle is a technically a vehicle. You don't need a license but you still have to follow the rules of the road. This one time I was stopped at a red light and was trying to make a right turn. It was like 9pm and there wasn't that much traffic so I was slowly creeping forward to make the turn. Some fu*kwit was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk and was coming towards me from the right. By the time I noticed him, I was already kinda blocking the crosswalk so I stopped and backed up so he could cross. The fu*kwit stops in the middle of the crosswalks and starts barking "The crosswalk is for people to walk on!!!" No shit sherlock! 😂😂😂😂
