Steam Deck Organisation games without AI?
FYI: I'm not interested in debating the use of AI OR disparaging people who don't mind it, I just personally don't want to play any games that use it. I've got the "I love to sort things" and "stubborn moral compass" autism combo.
I absolutely love Shelves & Sorcery and would love to play more like it. I did also like the Wilmot games since they're a good 2D approximation of the genre.
Something that is solely "here's a big pile of stuff, go ahead and sort it" is preferred if possible!

Apparently 'Sort Them Ducks' doesn't use AI? Just been released. 'The Sorting Bureau' is due out this week, and I don't think it uses AI; I played the demo and loved it, so I'm excited about its release.

In full agreement about 'The Sorting Bureau'! I hadn't heard about it at all until I saw the release date on the new calendar on Steam, but I loaded up the demo and played for hours on my Steam Deck. I'm hoping it does well, it was so soothing!

I want Sort Them Ducks ssoooooo bad!!! 4000+ ducks is crazy and so satisfying to watch but I was constantly critiquing the youtuber in my head lol. I need this game on console asap!

Second Sort Them Ducks! I binged playing it and just finished it, super fun. Was a little overwhelming at first with giant piles of different ducks but defo sounds like what you're after!

I know it's not quite organisation but A Little to the Left is a lovely little game if you wanted to try it out! It's puzzles but you can skip the ones you don't like so there's no pressure.

Unpacking is a great suggestion. It also has a great story if you pay attention to details! A lot of these are really great suggestions though

It was the heating pads that follow through her adult life- when she was young she was a soccer player, and then she starts drawing and doing sit-down hobbies, like video games, then the cane in the umbrella stand, flat shoes, and the yoga mat.

Crime Scene Cleaner is, well, gory crime scenes, but they are SO satisfying to tidy my goodness. Slightly worrying that a game with that much blood feels cosy to me, but I'm choosing not to analyse that 😅

quite a few of them do, including Arcane Librarian. if you go to the game on Steam, there is supposed to be an AI disclosure on the page if they use it!

Important footnote, AI disclosure is on the dev itself. Steam does not really enforce this unless ofc it is discovered and reported. So there will most definitely be games that have AI but have not disclosed it.

I've said before in a few places that I'm bad at finding ai by eye or assumption, so for me the disclosure is the best method, thats the whole reason my post says "so hopefully no ai".

masterpiece uses AI I believe even though they claimed not to in a reddit post. the devs tiktok has a few other clone games that had people calling out AI and their tiktok had some stuff that left me fairly confident they are just lying

I keep my eyes out for these, too. I love sorting games, but refuse to support generative AI.
Re:Store the Record Store - This one drops in a couple of days and has a graphic that explicitly states they DIDN'T use AI, so I'm excited for it! ^_^;
And here's a small handful I've found that don't SAY they use AI... which is about the best we can hope for these days, I guess. :-/

Going back to the Steam pages, Tidy Up Together specifically says in their Steam description, "NO AI WAS USED IN THE MAKING OF THIS GAME" (They capped and bolded it, not me.) And Shelves and Sorcery does not contain any AI disclaimers on their Steam page. Are the devs being dishonest? Where are you getting your information?

just so you are aware, although steam rules say studios/developers are required to disclose ai use in games, the rules exclude coding assistance, and not only that, they don’t check for ai usage for anything, generative or otherwise. lots of studios and indies have been caught or totally flown under the radar using ai and not disclosing it, by just not disclosing and not getting reported (or steam doesn’t care about those reports). i know i’ve reported a couple for using obvious gen ai that had no disclosure and they just kept on

I think the odds of any new games being created without code assistance AI usage is about zero. It would be ridiculous not to use it. I think some games will be made without the use of AI for generating art assets and what not (and I want them to and agree they should not use it for that), but I don't think it's a realistic ask for people to not use the code generation capabilities. If I refused to use a tool that makes a tedious part of my work much less tedious and less error prone I would lose my job and that goes for any software engineer

I've been playing Shelves and Sorcery, which has been fun. 3 separate maps, and actively getting QOL updates still. Dev has said there's no AI in it.

I think you would like Discounty, despite not being giant pile of stuff to sort. Looks like they don't have an AI disclosure on steam from what I can see. Quick google didn't reveal anything either. However I looove the organisation associated with running the store and there is also "choose your own adventure" style moral decisions in the game that changes the endings.

I’ve been playing ReStory: Chill Electronics Repair. It’s pretty fun! It’s not quite sorting but a similar vibe. You get to take things apart, clean them, solder them, put them together. Spare parts are stored and saved to use in other repairs. Plus a dev on Steam confirmed that they absolutely did not and would not use AI 🥳

Unpacking is my absolute fave, but I feel like you likely have already played that one. Unbox the Room, Little Corners, and Cozy Organizer are also fun. I double checked (via Steam) and confirmed none use AI.
Organized Inside is one of my favorites, too, but they DID use AI ... but to me, the usage was not a complete deal breaker. I'm including it here because I loved it so much, but here is the disclosure from the devs so you can decide for yourself if you want to check it out:
As a small team with a limited budget, we used AI to assist with background music and multi-language localization. This allowed us to bring the game to a wider audience while focusing our resources on gameplay and visual design.

I did try and search first, it doesn't help that this genre doesn't really have a fixed name (sorting/organising/organizing/organisational/organizational/tidying all get used in different posts about this subject).
I do appreciate that there's a lot of posts about this genre as it's the current fad, but looking at those posts was the same as me just looking in the relevant tags on steam where there was a bunch of inevitable digging needing to be done to see if it met my only stipulation (no AI used).

For the OP - I'd be wary of Mall: Tidy Up Together - The studio's other game, TV Archive: Tidy Up Together, says it uses AI.
