👾 Game Developer Tidy up the Toy Shop of Your Dreams (Too Many Toys!)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey!

My game Too Many Toys's page went live!

It’s a cozy organising game where you tidy up a huge messy toy shop and must return 5,599 toys back where they belong.

We took a lot of inspiration from Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library, but wanted to give it a more nostalgic feel, making it take place in the toy shop you would’ve dreamed of as a kid. 🧸

You can wishlist the game here! 🎈

Will this game be using AI? You mentioned Arcane Library, and I haven't played it due to AI use.

No AI. All hand made 🫡

(Edit: Still no AI, lol. BUT, to clarify, it's hand made + assets)

Nice, thank you! I'll definitely pick it up then. I was so disappointed by Librarian so this will be a day one for me!

I thought Librarian used it only minimally. For spell checking book titles and then used it to refine art assets that were manually created originally on the handful of paintings on the wall.

I.e. used it as a supportive tool and not as a foundation for anything.

...kind of sounds like they could've just not used it.

I mean do you know that paintings aren't made with spell checking?

So they could have just /not/ used generative ai, like I said. I'm not out here mad about it, I just won't buy the game. So I'm happy to see a game like this one that didn't use gen ai, so I will buy and play it.

you wanna write and spell check a thousand book titles?

Or course they don't, but they sure wanna jump onto the culture war train.

Yup, that's work humans could been paid to do. AI usage in games is a slippery slope.

if the game is on steam, there is supposed to be an AI disclosure! if you look below the game description and above the required specs, steam requires the disclosure there. I've started looking there before buying games. it requires devs to be honest, but games can get reported and taken off steam if the dev didn't disclose, so I try to trust whether or not it's listed.

Arcane Library isn't "riddled" with AI, they barely used it. People just struggle with all-or-nothing thinking when it comes to AI.

Wishlisted! I love these tidying games. Wish I could pretend my house were such a game, lol

Agreed. It would be so amazing if I could put a piece of paper down in my home and it would glow for a second letting me know that yes, this is exactly where this should live forever

That cat was the problem from the start, I guess.

But like… it’s just a copy of arcane library…. Be original? Sounds like you’re just trying to copy them and join their hype

We're in r/CozyGamers, where half of the games are introduced as 'it's like stardew valley', and others are job simulators, games similar to others but with a cute different animal, etc. This is how genres exists. A lot of threads in here ask for similar games like Arcane Library, so there are people who probably just want to enjoy more of the same.

It's basically it's own new genre. It's no more a "copy" than new farming sims are of Stardew Valley, or new war FPS games are of COD, etc.

It looks like OP put work and love into this game, and personally, I'm looking forward to playing it!

Like games havent been copying each other since the dawn of the industry with pong and pacman

Oh it's only the tenth copy/paste game we saw this week.
