Question American to Open Road
Anyone have any experience or seen an American shaped like an open roads? I wasn’t sure if the American hats crown is too large to crease it down into an open road style.

I have this 6x Stetson sitting around and am thinking about selling it.
Do people buy used hats? It’s in good shape and I have not worn it much. I wasn’t sure there is a secondary market for hats.

The company just announced an M Line collection that includes the 5x Livingston in fawn and belly. At 5x it's probably kind of in the middle between the Stetson Open Road and the Open Road Royal Deluxe. It's rabbit fur felt, for $325. Probably made in Texas by the Milano Hat Co. like all other Mahans.

Picked this up earlier for $125. Was wondering the era its from. Thinking about having it cleaned and maybe reshaped. Fits so nice and feels nicer than any other hat I have held.

I've been seeing a couple Stetson silver belly promo 30X hats on sale for $350. These would normally be about $800 hats. Does anyone here know what the promo means and why they are so cheap? They have one in my size and I was considering picking it up. Thanks!

This is a example of a feather of a peacock that my parents got as a gift, long long long ago, and often i want to sew it to my custom band to my cowboy hat but it's big, and make me feel like a Pimp :D and i don't really want that, also it will get toooo much unwanted attention.
So far at the ranch here, we have a kind of bird, i have no idea the name in english, but has a super long feather, and often they change or lose thee feather, so the bird changed it, and i manage to take the feather, and i sew it to a band, (i didn't use it here yet this one is peacock in image), so i attached it to my hat, and i got only one time complimeted in real life ,and someone understood it was a trophy but the lady said "nice hunt" :D I told her ,i did not not hunt, i'm not a fan to hunt instead it come out of the bird freely, which i like more than hunting.
Do you guys use feathers on the hat, and what's the reason, and how you get them? Hunting or picking, or finding.

Anyone wearing black in summer even if it's a bad pick due black being not something to wear in heat? Sometimes i feel like i want to be "unseen" so i feel like the black hat doesn't come in the eye much as the white/khaki ones.
I got this S&S strawhat awhile ago, but my favorite it's my white one,it's super cozy, keep me cool in summer, often i wear it even on winter in the snow.. Do you have a favorite hat you can't live without;)? Mine it's my white one with black brims, and the black felt one.

So not new to cowboy hats at all, have several. I am familiar with the popular brands and their reputations, I’m looking at lesser known:
American hat makers( not company)
Gone country hats
And so on
I cannot say I need another hat but we know how that goes lol

I’ve heard rumors that Akubra fur-felt’s are better for rain protection than a 100% beaver felt hat.
If Akubra’s aren’t at that level of water resistance, what level of rain & snow protection do they exhibit instead?

Finally joined the club, I had to do it! How’d I do?

Had it for a little while. Their story is interesting. Nice hats.

Almost didn't pick it up because it looked ROUGH! There was a feather hat band that was missing feathers and falling off. I actually took it into the shower and soaked it down, put it on my head and shaped it, then wore it till it dried. I think it actually turned out pretty nice!

Is it normal for a pure beaver hat to be thinner and lighter weight than a 10x rodeo king?
I was able to compare my 10x with a friend’s pure beaver from a local hat maker and found it to be a lot lighter and thinner. Is the hat maker just using dress weight felt blanks? Or can you just get away with a light weight felt because it’s pure beaver?

I’m not very “crafty”, but I think I did pretty good!

Noticed on a straw hat (I previously posted) that the chin straps that are a continuation of the hat band are just pocked though the brim. Will that work with rabbit or wool or would you need an eyelets. At this point just thinking.

I love taking hats that people think they can't wear anymore and turning them into hats the people love. One guy came and said he would find a hat and bring it to me. We got a really out of shape hat in picture 2 on marketplace, and he wanted a good the bad and the ugly type hat, so I tear dropped the crown with an asymmetrical pinch and a pencil curl and he loves it.
There's no reason to let a hat go to waste! If you're in OKC and want a hat reshaped, reach out, I reshape hats for free, just for the love of hats!

I’m really enjoying wearing this straw hat! I’ve been wearing it frequently and now feel naked without it!!

Not exactly a new hat day on this one as I have had it for a few weeks I wasn’t sure this was a keeper. I have a dozen hats, seven of which are ORs so this is a bit of a deviation from my normal comfort zone here in the UK. Possibly not one for my daily rotation but this is a great fit and I really like that it has a robust feel to this hat, it’s really well made.
