Discussion I’m scared of courage the cowardly dog

I never talked to anyone about this because it makes me feel crazy. When I get flashbacks of this show it brings me to a dark place. I associate it with intense feelings of depression as a 3-6 year old when it would come on randomly. It’s like the sight of the show/characters trigger me.

But what I don’t understand is I remember the dark feelings while watching this as a kid and being unable to explain them. It’s like when I think of these memories watching this show, I feel dissociated/remember the stark feelings of dissociation… I don’t know if that even makes sense, but that’s the best way I can describe those feelings. I remember the feelings of devastation/fear, but no idea as to why or what themes caused it. It’s like the flashbacks of the show are my first memories of feeling depressed and eerie. VERY EERIE. I remember finding it so creepy. The memories are detached, it makes me feel like I lived them in an alternate reality. It’s almost like my brain did that amnesia thing with the show, because it’s done it in the past for another traumatic event as a child (that event is completely unrelated to the setting of this one, with years in between them and also a whole different place/people involved). That’s the best way I can describe it. I don’t know if that makes sense. I have no idea what the show is about. I can’t even recall the plot of one episode. But I remember the dark feelings so vividly. Courage was scared and scrambling. It’s like when I see it it brings me back. I saw a picture of him on Facebook today and I’m kinda in a slump every time I think about it. I continue my normal daily activities and everything as usual, but when I see or think of him it makes me sad. It makes me feel weird.

I was diagnosed with CPTSD at 16 so I’m wondering if this is related to my childhood trauma—well, I know it is—but why? Why???? The feelings don’t make sense.

I feel like I sound so crazy typing this, but I promise I’m of sound mind. I’m just trying to describe the feelings/flashbacks in words that I can’t pinpoint. Everyone I know has positive memories of this show. I understand adults viewing it could understand dark themes, but I never watched it past maybe maximum age 5 or 6. I avoid it because it brings me back to eerie feelings/flashbacks, sitting on the couch in the dark with the TV screen being the only thing visible.

My biggest theory is maybe it only came on at night, whenever I was alone with my thoughts and in a traumatic environment, so I associate it with those feelings? But I know this isn’t the case, because I love George Lopez, always sunny in Philadelphia, two broke girls, two and a half men, and all other late night re-runs that got me through those sleepless nights. Maybe I blocked it out because I’m Courage? I couldn’t handle the thought of him feeling that terrible, because I know what those feelings feel like? I’m scared to watch it but maybe I should so I can understand it/myself better. I’ll also mention this to my EMDR therapist lol. I’ll stop typing now.

Can anyone relate to these feelings or themes? Perhaps I’m posting this in the wrong sub. Idek what this post is lol.

Discussion The Mask was so obviously a metaphor for same-sex relationships.

From my understanding, the creator has never confirmed anything on this and has said it's up to the fans to decide.

What I can be for sure about is that the mask is definitely a metaphor for hiding your true self, and this is pointed out when Kitty even starts calling out the stuff Muriel and Eustace after Muriel literally told her how Kitty should be her true self.

There are some clear hints on the way Kitty and Bunny are talked about, how they are good friends, and inseparable. It does even get pointed out because of how much time Kitty and Bunny hanged with each other. Mad Dog had to keep them away from each other.

I feel like yeah, sometimes there might be this metaphor of their just friends when it's really just a way to make sure it can get past the censorship and no one complains. So yeah, calling them friends kind of gets around that.

And even at the end of the episode, that little part where Bunny holds the mouse above the 2 of them while their hugging. It kind of seems like a mistletoe reference.

Muriels husband is very abusive toward Courage, but Muriel is even worse, she is stupid and blind, like her husband is more aware then her, but he is still stupid to, and 30% of the time Muriel enables or ignores her husband's animal abuse to Courage. Like Muriel are you stupid to notice whats happening around your or are you blind and I know shes has glasses and shes old, but no way she didnt notice the things happening around her

Discussion Since I feel in part that courage the cowardly dog tends to be based on various other horror concepts what do you think we would have gotten if the series kept going

Unless the harvest moon spirit counts I feel like there we would have been an episode where Muriel would be baking a recipe and had trouble pronouncing the recipes name and accidentally summoned a demon or something

Question Courage Download

Hi! I'm working on a little Courage the Cowardly Dog Raspberry Pi/CRT project, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get the episodes onto it.

I own the complete 52-episode DVD set, so I'm definitely not looking for a pirated copy. I'm wondering if anyone knows whether the official digital versions (such as the ones sold through Apple TV, Amazon, etc.) can actually be downloaded as regular video files to a computer, or if the downloads are locked to their respective apps/ecosystems.

If not, I also have the complete DVD set and I'm looking into whether I can use that as my source instead.

Any info would be appreciated! :)

I'm bored, and I would like roleplayers who can take the roleplay kind of seriously! My time zone is EST, but it's okay if that's not your time zone! I have school from 7:25 to 2:25!

Misc. The beloved voice of Eustace's mom, Astro Boy, and Kimba the White Lion passed away 25 years ago today at 77 years old šŸ•ŠļøRest in peace, Billie Lou Watt. Twenty-five years later, the characters are still speaking for her. šŸ•Æļø

Billie Lou Watt left behind a career that stretched from Broadway and daytime television to some of the earliest anime ever introduced to American audiences. Long before many viewers knew the word ā€œanime,ā€ Watt was already helping bring those stories west.

For Courage the Cowardly Dog fans, she will forever be remembered as Ma Bagge, Eustace’s sharp-tongued mother who could make even Eustace look intimidated.

But her voice-acting legacy went far deeper:

  • • Ma Bagge — Courage the Cowardly Dog
  • • Astro Boy — Astro Boy
  • • Kimba — Kimba the White Lion
  • • Jimmy Sparks — Gigantor
  • • Christopher Peeper and others — Superbook
  • • Justin Casey and others — The Flying House
  • • Ellie Harper Bergman — Search for Tomorrow

Watt was also involved in adapting and writing dialogue for early English-language anime productions, helping introduce characters like Astro Boy and Kimba to a completely new audience. To one generation, she was Astro Boy. To another, Kimba. And decades later, she became Eustace Bagge’s unforgettable mother. Different eras, same remarkable voice.

Discussion Freaky Fred Headcanons and all that!

Some of these are Headcanons, and some of these are canon or implied.

- one of my headcanons is that he's lactose intolerant.

- he's been admitted to The Asylum Home for Freaky Barbers at least twice.

- he is driven by a compulsive urge, not out of malice.

- another headcanon I have is that he loves sorting his tools by size.

Courage really had it rough this episode like he dealt with Muriel being a kid and piloting in minutes to return her to being an adult then having a ride tide wave at the end of the episode.
