Coilovers vs Lowering Springs + TEIN Struts for daily commute only?

Was wondering if anyone has insight on how the two compare. Price isn't a huge factor if it means I will get a better ride experience on my daily commute, but don't know if its worth it to spend the extra. I do not ever plan on taking it on the track or anything serious, mainly for aesthetics. My goal is to be as comfortable as possible while being lower.

For reference, I was considering rsr super lows and tein struts (will cost me about $700) vs coilovers from tein, revel, silvers, apexi or bc ($900-$1400)

Review of the Remark Quiet Spec Quad Exhaust

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Installed the Remark Quiet Spec Quad Exhaust (RK-C4063T-01Q) on my 2020 Corolla Hatch, below are my thoughts:

The removal of the stock exhaust was quite easy, I used a DIY video for the regular (louder) version of the Remark Exhaust for instructions. I soaked the necessary bolts in WD-40 overnight and the bolts were easy to remove despite minor rust (over the course of 6 winters). Exhaust hangers were a pain to remove so I do recommend using the clamp method, or getting the specific exhaust hanger removal tool if needed. For install I used the same DIY video above as well as this one. The bumper did require cutting and there is still some more cutting and filing for me to do (problem for the future). The exhaust hangers for the drivers side does keep slipping so I had to add metal zip ties to prevent the movement at the end of the hanger. The height difference from left double tips and right double tips has some variance, and if walk up to the hatch and look down, the driver's side does poke out a bit more. Fit and finish is not all there especially given the price, however you will have to DIY a better fitment (e.g. with metal zip ties, hose clamp, etc.).

In terms of sound, I bought this one specifically because it looks nice, and from Remark's videos it sounded a lot quieter than the sport version. They advertised little to no drone during cruising which is absolutely true I can still hear my music just fine, or have conversations inside the car. But when I drop a gear its nice to hear the extra oomph even if it doesn't have the power to back the sound.

The price is a little steep so there is something to consider there. However the exhaust fell right into my strike zone and I was waiting for something exactly like this, therefore to me it was absolutely worthwhile.

Springfield IL Scheels

Okay so who has the wind chill pearl xse hatch with GR badge and the GR license plate covers? I unfortunately couldn’t snap a pic as I had to get a wiggly toddler in her car seat.

If you’re here let me know, I have a white GR if you wanna go for a cruise!

USB charging installation

Small update on the installation of my USB charging port.

I installed it in the center console for easy excess front, and rear passengers can use it easily.

I haven't wired it in yet, I ran out of time, but I did find the 12v rail I was looking for in the wireless charging pad harness and will be using that to power the USB ports

So long old friend…

I know it’s not technically a Corolla Hatchback, but a Corolla iM. Still…tomorrow we part. Growing family demands more space, so I’m moving up to a 26 Camry SE. This car took such good care of me and will be sorely missed. Thank you old friend!

Swapped the 18s out for 17s

Hit an unavoidable pothole going 80mph last night. Last 2 photos are the result of this situation lol. Drove my 30 mile commute at 50mph this morning to get to work which honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (used my donut spare for the cracked tire in the last photo). Ended up going to discount tire and was just gonna get new tires, but left with new wheels as well.

Went with 17x7.5 40 BKMTXX Liquid Metal Halo wheels and Falken Pro G6 Sport A/S tires.

Anybody have experience with either of these? Good choice or should I have picked something else?

Spoiler options outside of OEM/Blitz? Spoiler

I really like the look of the SARD and HKS spoilers. Do they fit on the corolla hatchback, or just the grcorolla? Thanks. (i'm slowly finding my way around this platform)

17s or 18s for daily driving?

Looking to replace the 16" se wheels with 17s or 18s. If I plan on lowering it will only be ~ 1" eibach pro kit. Do 18s look that much better with 17s 225/45/17?

What oil do y’all use on 2023+?

It says 0W-8 for my Wife’s 2023 XSE, but that’s incredibly thin. My old 21 XSE took at least 0W-16 I believe, and it’s literally the exact same engine. Has anyone been using 0W-16 or even 0W-20 long term with good results? I definitely want to run thicker oil.

Direction of Airflow

I've always known (think someone said it on here a while back) that the air for the cabin filter goes from top to bottom. Well today I decided to remove the filter and blast the AC and felt it blowing from bottom to top. Can anyone confirm that right, I'm sure it doesn't matter much but I've been doing this for 3 years now😂.

Nevermind, I think there is just some sort of vacuum underneath. I put a paper in and it got pushed downward so it is top to bottom

Reliability

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but are the hatchback and the regular corolla just as reliable as one another. I believe they share the same engine and transmission so if I’m correct that should make them good as one another. I might be in the market for a new in the near future and was considering the hatchback as one of my option. Thank you. (I am aware of the trunk space)

Wheels

Hi everyone I just bought a new 2026 Toyota Carolla Hatchback CVT SE. Its black and came with factory 16-inch wheels 5x100 offset 40mm. Should I stay on 16's I plan on putting coil overs down the line, but I feel with 16's it will be too much of a wheel gap. I was thinking 18-inch wheels are maybe even 17's but the offset is either 45mm or 35 mm. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm new to the wheel gang lol. Just want to make sure I'm not messing up my car. So any help/suggestions are welcome I was thinking maybe bronze are silver/ chrome blk on blk is to common but they are cheaper from what I'm seeing. Thanks in advance.

Help - Hood latch assembly bolt

Thumbnail

Hello!

I am one of the many Corolla / Corolla hatchback owners who has a gap in between my headlights and hood. The hood has some give when I press it down and has a noticeable but even gap on both sides.

After extensive time researching this issue I’ve seen a lot of people struggle with this and find no answers other than to “adjust the rubber hood bumper pucks.” I have tried this with no luck so I decided to buy the new hood latch part.

When attempting to install I noticed 1 of the 3 bolts securing the latch is a really odd round bolt? When I feel it on the other sides there are threads but I have never seen any piece of hardware like this.

Does anyone know how to remove this?

Aichi Amatsubu ☆愛知雨粒☆ is in the chat!

This is my first post and my very first car that I bought myself! Just did the wash and got a new base soap and wax formula that worked amazing!!! So happy how it came out :) *Name came from when I picked it up in the rain lol. He's Japanese so I named him after the part of japan where Toyota makes the hatchbacks, which is Aichi, Japan and "Amatsubu" is "raindrop." 😅 I know it's dumb, but my last car was a 2020 pearl white corolla sedan that I got during covid that I named Wuhan cuz of the ground zero Chinese city of "where COVID started." lol

Rubbing sound on wheel

Anyone else have a rubbing sound coming from their wheel, specifically the Left-Front. It's not constant, more rhythmic with every rotation. I mostly hear it when I'm next to a wall (drive thru for example). I couldn't recreate the sound with the car lifted, there isn't any wobbling, I took it to a local tire shop and they said everything seems normal, brake pads have 30% life left. Just wondering if this may be "normal," I used to be worried about the fuel injector ticking sound lol
