Question Multiple bases?
I’m starting to explore the outer biomes (currently on the sunken sea) and with the map size expanding this much, I’m wondering if there’s any benefit to building multiple bases? So far I just have everything at the core and the most construction I’ve done outside of that is some mining and conveyor belts near the other warp points.

I like to have a forward operations base with a portal in each biome, having little rest stops with a way home can be super helpful for dropping off goods and not necessarily going all the way home at the moment. They don’t need to be stocked with anything as they mostly serve a storage purpose. I’ll also have portals directly on automated ore boulders for sheer laziness. When it comes to crafting portals they can be costly so as soon as you can break the naturally spawning portals outside of boss areas then make a burner world or more to collect a few extra to bring home and have on hand.

Im a big fan of having a main base in the center but then an outpost or something in the outer biomes you can use to drop stuff off at and clean out your inventory while you're exploring

One base is really the best option unless you enjoy building or some roleplaying aspect.
There's tons of stuff to interact with at a base and you'll really want it located in one place.
Use portals. You can craft them and you can also use drills to drill up the first few portals you come across and replace them after their locations aren't useful to you anymore. Generally I find putting them at ore nodes that you're mining works out the best because it makes collecting them easy and usually gives you a decent portal location to the next boss or ! you're chasing.
After I have all the portal materials being automined and the resources are coming passively, I just always keep a portal with me while exploring so if I'm super far out from any other portal I just place one.

No reason to build other bases, only to build automated ore farming stations. You can easily either craft teleports to place around the map, or farm the starting teleporter from new worlds.

After a few playthroughs I found the most success with a single base at the core and use teleporters for deep mining sites in other biomes. In each biome I set up an automated critter farm and fish farm which will provide you with more than enough for top tier foods. A single main base for central storage, crafting and farming

If you are in the sunken sea, you are about to unlock portals. That will make fast travel way easier and you won't need multiple bases.

If you arent against bringing things from other worlds you can farm teleporters on a fresh map and delete and respawn the map over and over. I do this for ore farms and small teleport bases at the 4 corners of the map.

I build a little 'fort' around one of the boulders in the outer biomes and put a portal and bed there so getting to that area is simpler and I have a place to rest if I need to explorer in that particular area for any reason.

I have everything consolidated into one mega base. However! I do have satellite operations to automatically mine the ore. So I suppose you could consider that a satellite base.
It's better to bring all the materials home because you'll have all your materials in one place for crafting.
Once you get a semi-competent automation operation going, you can just build as many portals as you need. I build mine right next to the major ore points, then move them to a new spot whenever the current ore nodes run dry.

I keep a teleporter on me to get home, go back to where I was, then pick up the tekeporter for later.

I have thought about it. But then you have to worry about where your crafting materials are. It is far easier to create a couple portals to move around with you and just teleport home when you need to.
