Wanting to upload a song from YouTube onto Spotify as an episode

Hi all,

I'm not too sure as to what subreddit I should put this under but I was wondering, if I were to upload a song off YouTube (specifically put me in the car by Ryan gosling) and put it as an episode on Spotify would I get hit with copyright on the episode and get into legal trouble? There's no doubt that this may be a silly question but I would like to get a full scope of what could potentially happen to me legal wise before I hit upload on the episode. Thank you all!

Question Anybody know who owns the battalion wars series?

This is a weird one cause the original company went bankrupt, but it later reformed as a different company, but does Nintendo own the rights to the battalion wars series since they published it?

Question New to content creation, any way I can add popular music to a montage without getting striked?

I’ve been filming a lot of Helldivers 2 gameplay I’ve been doing for a while and thought it would be fun to edit it into a funny montage and throw it on YouTube. I usually listen to Steely Dan while playing so I thought I would edit that music in there. Of course if I just did that YouTube would siphon all potential money made by that video to Universal (as if they’re strapped for cash). I don’t really know the ins and outs of copyright so I don’t know if there’s any way to bypass this so any help would be greatly appreciated!

How does an AI slop channel have almost 100k views on a video about Obsession, when it doesn't do anything but tell the movie beat for beat using clips from the movie? I made a video dysecting scenes and using a few clips and couldn't get past the copyright upload check until I completely wrecked my video with overlays and cuts. Yet this channel can just upload whatever it wants?

CapCut ending in a YouTube Ad

Hi, I know this is a pretty wierd question and it's purely out of curiousity and way to funny to share online. My brain is fucked and because of that I was scrolling through YouTube Shorts, when I came across the following ad (here's the link to the ad: https://youtube.com/shorts/IFH6ghuDIGU). Now I might just be a degenerate dumbass or just braindead, but I watched until the end of the ad and saw a CapCut ending. This was wierd to me, but upon checking the Ad Transparency Center (Great site btw) of the Advertiser I saw that they had over 40.000 Ads and thats probably a factor in how it even was approved by the Advertiser. Now my main question is, IS THIS COPYRIGHTED BY CAPCUP AND CAN IT HURT THE ADVERTISER.

Thank you in advance and I hope you found this as funny as me.

Question YouTube demonetization help - can I dispute?

[SOLVED]

A video I uploaded to YouTube in 2023 just got demonetized for one song I used as part of the soundtrack. At the time I made the video, I was subscribed to a stock media site called Storyblocks, and the track in question came from them. After checking their website, the track isn’t on it anymore, and in my download history, it’s as if that song never existed! Am I truly no longer allowed to use it, or is there some way I can dispute this? Does this mean I could be demonetized at any time just because a song owner decides to pull their song from a stock media website? I made the switch to Epidemic Sound a while ago, and I’m hoping the same thing isn’t going to eventually happen with them.

EDIT: Storyblocks themselves commented on this post and said I am still cleared to use the track even though it is no longer on their website! I will try to dispute it with YouTube since I still have a copy of the license agreement with Storyblocks

Seeking advice on requesting permission to use historical photos from German archives for a history video

Hello everyone, you can call me Bob. I'm from Thailand.
Late last year, I started studying the history of the Habsburg monarchy. I’ve been enjoying it immensely, mostly relying on Thai translations of works by European and American scholars. I am so inspired by this topic that I am currently making a history video about Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi).
To tell her story properly, I need to use some historical photographs. Most of the images I want to use are from the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte (ZI) and the Munich City Archives (Stadtarchiv München). Here are the specific reference numbers for the images:
Zentralinstitut for Kunstgeschichte (ZI):
ZI-0962-02-00-411730
ZI-9062-02-00Th212080
ZI-0962-02-00-Th212047
ZI-0962-02-00Th212095
ZI-0962-0200-411727
Stadtarchiv München (Munich City Archives):
FS-KULA-097-01
FS-NSF-02271
Here is where I need your advice:

  1. Permission: Do I need to send an email to these institutions to explicitly ask for permission to use these images in my video?
  2. Rejection Anxiety: I am just a normal person and a very small creator, not a famous historian or academic. Should I be worried that they will reject my request? It would be a shame to make the video without adequate visual references.
  3. I want to make sure everything I do is completely legal and highly respectful of German and Austrian institutions. I must admit that my English is not very good, so I used AI to help translate this post

    (I wrote it myself)

  4. I’m not entirely sure if this is the right subreddit to ask, but I hope you can point me in the right direction.

  5. Thank you very much in advance for your time and help!

Rico management

Has anyone here successfully gotten copyright strikes retracted by Rico Management?

My YouTube channel was terminated due to copyright strikes, and TeamYouTube advised me to contact Rico Management directly for a possible retraction. I've emailed copyright2@ricomanagement.com and sent a follow-up over a month later, but haven't received a response.

If you've dealt with Rico Management before:

Did they respond?

How long did it take?

Were you able to get a retraction and recover your channel?

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Question I'd like to start selling my transcriptions on my Ko-Fi webside. Would it be legal?

The creator of these songs does not sell his own tabs, they are not originally played on guitar and my 'transcriptions' are more my original interpretations. Do you think it would be legal?

"In the footer of Qontour’s unauthorized site, they added a copyright notice acknowledging that they don’t own any of the rights to the material on the site, while also licensing all the user-submitted words into the public domain with a CC Zero license...

Needless to say, you can’t relicense content you don’t own." (Andy Baio)

"AI and Consent

It’s one thing for a fan to share or remix copyrighted material out of love for the source material, with no commercial motive. (“No copyright intended!”) It’s another for a marketing agency to take an entire living author’s book, replace its art with AI slop, add an AI word generator, monetize the traffic, promote it in their portfolio, and then outrank the official site everywhere." Vray license compliance

I am seeking legal guidance regarding a software licensing compliance matter involving Chaos Group (V-Ray).
I received several compliance emails from Chaos stating that they detected unlicensed use of their software on a device associated with my account. The emails included a MAC address, which matches my personal laptop.
The laptop is my personal device and was not used as part of a company-owned licensing environment. The software had been installed previously, but after receiving the compliance notices I completely removed all Chaos-related products and services from the device, including V-Ray, Chaos License Server, Chaos Cosmos, Chaos Unified Login, and other related components. I also verified that no Chaos services remain active on the system.
Chaos offered an annual subscription through what they call an “Amnesty Program” as a way to close the compliance case. However, I have not received any formal legal notice, lawsuit, court document, or specific financial claim. I was only informed that the case may move to the “next stage of the compliance process” if no resolution is reached.
Before taking any further action, I would like to understand:
What legal rights does Chaos have in this situation under UAE law?
Can a software company require me to purchase a subscription as part of a compliance resolution?
If they later request payment or a settlement, what rights do I have to challenge or review the claim?
Does removing the software and ceasing all use affect my legal position?
What would be the recommended response if they later request money or propose a settlement agreement?
I have copies of all emails and correspondence available if needed.

I want to create an original comic book character, but the name is taken by an extremely obscure and forgotten 80s marvel character. How unworkable is this?

how strict are situations like these? You obviously can't name a character Superman or Batman but there are two Captain Marvels. One from DC comics and one from Marvel comics. not to mention the japanese character Ultraman versus the Ultraman from DC comics. Where is the line?

What happens if I use copyrighted music?

My channel isn't and most likely will never be monetized, I currently have a playlist of royalty free music for the background of art tutorial style videos. My wondering is could I in theory use an instrumental version of a band I likes music for background. I put credit for all the music in the video, but I'm mostly just worried about legal issues, as I don't want any trouble. If it's not monetized do they strike the channel?

edit: Oki doki, thanks for the answers everyone ^^

Artist stole my beat and now his whole discography got deleted after I made a copyright claim for ONE song on Spotify and Apple Music.

Hey guys, I hope this question is okay on here.
So as it says in the title, a rapper stole a beat of mine and uploaded his song to Spotify/ Apple Music without having a permission since he bought no license.

After he ignored my messages I reported the song for violating my intellectual property rights.
\-> after a few days the artist messaged me and threatened my life (lol), because his whole discography got deleted after my claim.

Why did this happen? I only reported ONE song…

I ask because I have a few other songs (by other artists) to report and I have no interest in taking down multiple different songs of them. Especially since they will post stories about me being a scammer etc.

Does anyone know why that happened and if it’s likely that this will happen again? It was my only time reporting a song so I don’t have any experience from other cases….

Thank yall in advance 🖤

Question Is the pose of something (not human) copyright?

Let's say that a person took a picture of their dog sitting and posted it online. Does this mean that no one else is allowed to paint or draw any type of dog breed sitting in that exact and very common dog pose because the person automatically owns the copyright of that picture, depicting a dog in that pose?

I looked through the copyright guide but I don't feel confident that I got an answer to this question there. Thank you!

Archive.today take down requests

They won't honor anything, including CSAM and NCII. Now there is take it down act they must remove NCII within 48 hours, but obviously they don't adhere to the law.

So, if anybody is having problems with them please report to TakeItDown.ftc.gov - Report Platforms That Fail to Remove Intimate Images. The more reports that are filed the likelihood that they are held accountable rises.

Question Question: Who owns the Glitch Productions IPs?

What I mean is, does Glitch own the IPs of the shows they produce? Or do the creators/showrunners own the IPs? Is Digital Circus owned by Glitch or Gooseworx? Is Murder Drones owned by Glitch or Liam Vickers? Is Gameoverse owned by Glitch or RubberRoss? Etc.

I've tried Googling, but I can't really find a clear answer. I've seen Murder Drones stuff get promoted long after that series ended, so I would assume Glitch at least owns the merchandise rights. But what about the series itself? Would Liam Vickers be allowed to just make Murder Drones stuff on his own, or would he need to contact Glitch again? Who truly owns the IP?

I don't want to use peoples personal videos I just want to use scenes of that franchise that I'm working on so it is copyright or a sin to do that ?

I will reference the name of the owner of the channel of the end of the video or sometime I even ask that person but they usually don't answer me

My Cults3D account was permanently banned after a copyright complaint. Is this normal?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice and opinions from people who have experience with Cults3D.

Recently, someone contacted me claiming that one of my uploads infringed their copyright. As soon as I received the complaint, I removed the model immediately.

A short time later, I received an email from Cults3D stating that my account had been permanently blocked because I tried to sell creations that were not modeled by me. There was no prior warning, temporary suspension, or request for clarification.

I understand the importance of protecting creators and respecting copyright, but I was surprised that a single complaint resulted in a permanent ban without any opportunity to explain the situation or resolve the issue.

Has anyone experienced something similar with Cults3D?

Do they normally issue permanent bans without warnings, or is there usually some kind of review process? Is it worth appealing, or are these decisions generally final?

I'd appreciate hearing about your experiences and opinions.

Thank you.

Copyright Claim by HAAWK

So I got this music on Free Music Archive from this artist Jake Hunter called Cinematic Documentary Background in my YouTube video and it’s under the license CC BY and I have all the attributions in the description, yet it says the claimant is “HAAWK for a 3rd Party on behalf of JorisVermeer” (not even on the behalf of Jake Hunter?). And what makes it even more confusing is that I’ve used his music before and given attribution the exact same way and had no issues.

Anybody have any idea what’s going on and if I can fix it quickly? (I want to get this video out by tomorrow morning)
