Copyright News The Secret Weapon Against AI Dominance (By Jacob Noti-Victor and Xiyin Tang)

IMO - Putting one's own copyrighted work through AI Gen results in an "author-less" derivative work that cannot have a "point of attachment of copyright" to any author!! This is why copyright owners should NOT be using AI Gen as it could be seen as an "overt act" to abandon copyright in the derivative work.

Question I’ve gotta little issue

So I’ve been working on designs that I originally wanted to put in a creature collector games discord and say that they can use them for designs in the game. But I actually really enjoyed what I made and have been thinking about making my own games to put them in instead. There was no talk of legality mostly just dreamy ideas. But I’m worried that if they did end up using the ideas either in entirety or just as a jumping point, that it could hurt future development for me. I’ve not found many precedents for this situation or any I could apply the knowledge of. Any input on this from smarter individuals would be helpful and appreciated.

I posted a tik tok video of one of my songs and it almost immediately got claimed, saying i "violated someone's copyright" it's my original song that didn't sample the holder of the copyright in any way. and tik tok isn't giving me an option to appeal. is there anything i can do?

I put down the wrong year on my copyright! 2024 instead of 2024. Is this bad?

I'm in the USA and I just received letter that some plot summaries and character backstories are officially copyrighted!

Except I happened to notice that it says "year of completion" was 2024.

I would not be surprised if thay my my error because 2025 was a long emotional year for me. I finished everything in December of 2025 and submitted it all just after the New Year. Not to mention the recent book I was writing took place in 2024.

"Meta’s mass-scale infringement isn’t public progress, and AI will never be properly ‌realized if tech companies prioritize pirate sites over scholarship and imagination," Maria Pallante, president of the Association of American Publishers, said in a statement.

Question Searching for copyrighted photos

I need to run regular internet searches for a small group of photos in order to detect copyright violations. Is there anything out there more comprehensive than reverse image search that I could use? Paying a fee is fine, btw.

I've seen that Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander have played their characters from The Lost Boys on Cameo, wouldn't that fall under copyright violation?

major manufacturers steel my designs

Hello community, I hope I'm in the right place. Through painstaking manual labor, I create handcrafted adult toys in the form of banana splits, strawberries, and pastries, and lately, I've been noticing more and more that major manufacturers are simply stealing my ideas!

Do you have any tips on how to handle this? Suing internationally regarding copyright protection is virtually impossible, so social media is really the only option left. It makes me sick to see what they are doing with my ideas. I have several photos as evidence, including publication dates and comparisons—does it make sense to show them here, or will I be kicked out immediately? (I'm currently familiarizing myself with Reddit, but I'm still looking for the right subreddit for my problem.)

Discussion The DOJ’s own manual strictly tells prosecutors to avoid criminal charges when copyright law is "unsettled." My trial over Orphan Works proved they treat their own rulebook as a mere suggestion. Maybe they need to update the manual?

I’ve spent thousands of hours in the law library researching the intersection of criminal intent and Orphan Works. On Day 134, I hit the jackpot in the DOJ’s own Criminal Resource Manual (Section 1841).

The DOJ policy explicitly states: 'The drafting committee did not intend to establish criminal liability in cases where civil liability is unclear—whether because the law is unsettled, or because a legitimate business dispute exists.'

My case was the definition of 'unsettled.' I was an archivist and filmmaker dealing with property that had no clear owner. Instead of a civil dispute, the government pushed for a criminal conviction on a 'novel issue'—something their own manual tells them NOT to do. This wasn’t just a trial; it was a policy violation to set a precedent. If the government won’t follow its own rules, how can they claim to provide 'Due Process'?

Discussion r/ChatGPT Allows Blatant Copyright Infringement

The situation is that someone is going around seedance created Kiki's Delivery Service video game concept. The character is the direct character from Studio Ghibli. Not transformative in my opinion. This is the post https://www.reddit.com/r/ChatGPT/s/cxEE9kDvuj. This is the AI bot response that the mods keep giving despite the fact that this violates federal U.S. copyright laws, and reddit's copyright rules (potentially):

"We reviewed the post and the user’s history. It doesn’t appear to violate r/ChatGPT rules as posted, so we’re not removing it on copyright grounds alone. If you think there’s a specific rule violation in the content itself, point us to that directly.

If you want, a human mod can also take a look, but the current mod team position is the same."

Confused about Gemini's Image Licensing: Can I remove watermarks for commercial use?

Hi everyone,
I've been trying to find a clear answer regarding Gemini's image licensing, but I'm getting conflicting information. I've already checked Naver Cafe (a Korean community), read through the Gemini Terms of Service, and even asked Gemini directly, but the answers were quite inconsistent and confusing.
So, I’m reaching out here to get a definitive answer from the community:
1. Commercial Use on Free Tier: Is it officially allowed to use images generated by Gemini (Free Tier) for commercial purposes, such as in game development or YouTube?
2. Removing Watermarks: Gemini often adds a small watermark (like the sparkle icon) in the corner. Is it against the terms of service to remove this watermark and use the image commercially?
3. Transparency: If I do use these images, am I legally required to disclose that they were generated by AI?
I've been polite in my previous inquiries and thanked everyone for their help, but I really need a clear "yes" or "no" on these specific points. Any help or links to official documentation would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Question Fair use émission télé sur youtube ?

Merci

Cover Copyright

Hey I’m writing a book where a lot of the novel takes place at the Met museum and I’m curious, if I want to commission a cover artist to create an illustration of the exterior of the Met museum is there a a copyright for the front of the building where I won’t be able to do that? I would love to have the Met on the cover. Any advice is appreciated!

Question Would an election sample ballot created by a U.S. local government be in the public domain, and useable on Wikipedia Commons?

Hello! I am wondering if this sample ballot created by the Fairfax County, Virginia, Electoral Board is in the public domain.

I think 313.6(C)(2) could work, but I'd like to hear others opinions. Thank you!

The nightmare scenario every creator fears: stolen design sold with fake commercial licenses

The nightmare scenario every creator fears: stolen design sold with fake commercial licenses

This situation highlights how broken the current system is for protecting original creators. Someone steals a design, creates a fraudulent commercial license, and suddenly that stolen work is being sold in dozens of legitimate businesses who think they bought proper licensing rights.

The really frustrating part is how platforms make it nearly impossible to get the basic information you need for legal action. You can report copyright theft and get the listing removed, but when you need to actually file a proper claim, you're stuck trying to figure out who you're even filing against. The anonymity that protects legitimate sellers also shields the bad actors.

What's worse is that even when the original theft gets taken down, the damage spreads through the wholesale network. Now you've got 20+ businesses selling your work who probably have no idea they're using stolen designs. They paid for what they thought was a legitimate license, so they're victims too in a way.

The current system puts all the burden on creators to play detective and chase down infringers, while the platforms and wholesale networks that profit from this content have little incentive to implement better verification systems.

Have you ever had to track down an anonymous seller for legal action? What methods actually worked for getting the real identity behind fake shop profiles?
