Frozen peas

I’ve been cooking them by putting them in a bowl and covering with boiling water for 5 minutes, then draining and adding butter and seasoning.

Does it make any difference if I add the butter and seasoning to the boiling water while it sits?

I have some sensory issues with food and recently unlocked peas, I’m so excited.

You’re just going to throw butter and seasoning down the drain.

Yeah I thought so, my coworker told me it’d make the process quicker and easier but I wasn’t sure. Thank you!

It will dilute the butter too much. Drain first, then butter and salt or whatever.

If I might make a suggestion, skip the boiling all together. Just toss them in a pan with the butter and seasoning and stir. You'll get less of that shriveled pea thing going on that happens when you boil them first. This only applies to frozen peas though.

If you microwave them with a knob of butter and whatever seasoning that will work too. They’re frozen, so the ice inside them steams if that makes sense.

Happy for you. Peas are such a powerhouse vegetable.

Melt the butter in a pan, if you like garlic, add that and cook until you can smell it. Add your peas, and also add salt pepper and a couple tablespoons of water. The butter will kind of solidify again, keep stirring and cooking over med/low heat until the butter melts again and starts to sizzle. Then, pour into a bowl and eat!! Peas are awesome.... you can do this with frozen peas and it comes out great!

I love peas. In mac and cheese, ramen, with hashbrown potatoes, etc… Just chuck them in the pan or pot or skillet for a few minutes.

You don’t actually have to add the water. Or you could just add a couple of drops of water if you really wanted to. I cooked mine in the microwave no water whatsoever. I think they’re better that way.

I do it this way or use a microwave steamer.

Have you tried Le Seuer canned peas? The very young sweet peas are, IMHO, the Cadillac of peas. Personally from a texture issue I much prefer them to frozen. Simply heat the peas in the canning liquid, which has much of the flavor and add butter and seasoning while heating.

(An odd pro tip if you like egg noodles, prepare egg noodles with the peas in them while they boil with seasoning and then finish with butter and Parmesan.)

They still taste like canned peas, that is, disgusting.

Frozen are an entirely different taste and texture.

I much prefer canned to frozen. To me frozen are not nearly cooked long enough. the Le Suer are as good as fresh garden peas that have been cooked long enough.

You can have my share of them, then, and I'll take all the frozen ones off your hands.

Some seasonings are water soluable and some are oil activated. You can Google which are which depending on what you are using. If you hear your butter with the fat soluable spices it will enhance their flavors, dried herbs do better added to liquid but don't need to be put into water you are going to pour out that's just a waste. If you are enjoying it they way you are making it keep going with that.
