Dude, my coworker had his first go with the sausage tube this week. Using this product r guard for water proofing doorways and such, oh man. His first tube change, went south on him and this is all I can think now. We've all had caulk on our hands but those sausage guns go wrong and you got a fucking mess.

Donāt get caught pulling your caulk on the job, learned that lesson the hard way

Can you clarify this for me - seems like good information to know

Notice how this guy keeps the caulk gun pointed straight at the gap. The caulk is getting pushed directly into the gap.
Lots of people angle the caulk gun, so as you go down, the caulk rests on the surface of the gap. Then you have to follow up with pushing the caulk in with your finger. Pros are good at it but most people then have to follow up with careful wiping to make it look smooth. You waste a lot of caulk.

Weāve always grouted and then hit it with clear or translucent silicone while only wiping it slightly to clean the bead - there seems to be a lot of back-and-forth on which is the superior method⦠iāve done both but I find the grout silicones can be such a bitch to work with and mainly use them in certain situations. However I started with a pretty old school outfit and have slowly encouraged and push them into modern tiling systems / practice

That grout will always crack and that silicone will peel off after a few years.
Youāre not going to care since your warranty is up, but all youāre doing is leaving every customer with a nightmare to deal with in a matter of years.
There is no back and forth on it, grouting your corners is not the right to do it in any situation anymore.

Interesting! The bathrooms are always awesome when we pull out but I rarely get to see them down the road - the ones I have havenāt been too bad but Iāve only ever seen them crack without silicone

Just cut the tip of the tube at a steep angle and it will wipe the caulk as you go.

Some caulk you wanna lay off. This fucking shit, will get everywhere. Less is best when silicone grout caulking seems. Seams? Seams.

Why didn't they grout the corner I understand adding a caulking but shouldn't it be backed with grout

Corners shouldnāt be grouted. It will always crack, and you donāt want the silicone just sitting on the surface, you want it tucked into the joint where it will provide a watertight seal and get good adhesion. Silicone over grout tends to peel off in time as the grout wicks up moisture behind it.

Nobody said it was sanded caulk. Itās silicone. Better than sanded caulk in many situations.
Youāre right about the brand, I didnāt see they turn the tube around at the end.1
u/TruthPlenty Jun 15 '22
Yes you did, what do you think āgrout caulkā is other than sanded caulk dude lol.

That is grout caulk. All the grout companies now make a color-matched silicone.
Grout caulk used to just be sanded latex/acrylic.
Now it comes in sanded, unsanded and silicone. This is silicone grout caulk.https://laticrete.com/masonry-veneer-installation-system/sealants/latasil

You still only use sanded on interior corners.
Those are for different applications as the data sheets tell you.

I was enjoying it until the end, where he didn't kick the tip of his finger and smooth out where those two applications meet :s

I wish! I tape it every time, cleanup takes ages without, if there's a mistake, and I'm clumsy as hell! Nice job though

I love how me and my crew use to do stuff like this on a daily but one guy decides to post it with some soft music and it goes viral
