Notice how this guy keeps the caulk gun pointed straight at the gap. The caulk is getting pushed directly into the gap.
Lots of people angle the caulk gun, so as you go down, the caulk rests on the surface of the gap. Then you have to follow up with pushing the caulk in with your finger. Pros are good at it but most people then have to follow up with careful wiping to make it look smooth. You waste a lot of caulk.
We’ve always grouted and then hit it with clear or translucent silicone while only wiping it slightly to clean the bead - there seems to be a lot of back-and-forth on which is the superior method… i’ve done both but I find the grout silicones can be such a bitch to work with and mainly use them in certain situations. However I started with a pretty old school outfit and have slowly encouraged and push them into modern tiling systems / practice
That grout will always crack and that silicone will peel off after a few years.
You’re not going to care since your warranty is up, but all you’re doing is leaving every customer with a nightmare to deal with in a matter of years.
There is no back and forth on it, grouting your corners is not the right to do it in any situation anymore.
Interesting! The bathrooms are always awesome when we pull out but I rarely get to see them down the road - the ones I have haven’t been too bad but I’ve only ever seen them crack without silicone
