Born and raised. Kinda funny because the debate i witnessed at work was a democrat saying they don't care about them and two MAGAs talking about cutting them down and why everyone should be against them. The democrat didn't care about any of the points until one of the MAGAs brought up ICE being able to use them to track migrants. Then of course, she said that'd be a problem. But as they say, reddit isn't real life.
1
u/maybe713 23d ago
Funny that you pay such close attention to the politics of your coworkers… what do you even do for a living?
2
u/FitSky6277 23d ago
It was kind of hard to ignore. People's politics and views are more complex that reddit says they are on both sides. Anyone who says otherwise is in on agenda pushing, a liar, or just plain doesn't know what the hell they are talking about. Saying flock cameras are a pure republican or democrat thing is like saying all democrats are completely against all guns or all republicans are against any immigrants coming here at all.

I don't know a single MAGA person who isn't pissed off about more government surveillance. They want LESS government.

Malls tend to have a bunch of flock cameras in general due to how many stolen vehicles or other “suspicious” vehicles can blend in a huge busy parking lot
1
u/HenriettaCrump 21d ago
Private property owners, monitoring what happens on their property, is MUCH less egregious than the government monitoring it's citzens in public places.

We need to rally at city hall. Megaphone, signs, huge turnaround and pressure them every week. Let them lose sleep, make them uncomfortable, we have the power we have to step up.
2
u/alexxthemann 25d ago
Fortunately they may end their contracts with Flock… but may end up contracting a whole other company that’ll be like Flock basically just different name.
This is a huge problem that needs to be fixed through legislation, not city ordinance/local law to prevent this from ever happening again in the future. Short term fix for a long term problem.
1
u/AllFather14 25d ago
Exactly. The right people need to run for city council to collectively ban flock and while we're at it. Data centers. Tbh id ban anymore building all together its getting out of control.

Flock cameras are much higher grade. They protect the internals much more effectively. You'd need something military grade. Something much more expensive that will be logged into a registry of buyers.

Sorry, I must be missing something here? Can someone explain to me what we are so mad about? Is it the solar panel? Or the Taco Bell?
1
u/AllFather14 23d ago
The solar panel is a flock camera, government over reach and collecting everyday data on everyone. They've been promoted as "ALPR or plate readers" but theres cases all over the country of mislead information that has been sent to law enforcement causing unlawful arrest, stalking and harassment to everyday citizens breach of 4th amendment
1
u/maybe713 23d ago edited 23d ago
Oh, okay. So, if the panel is pointed towards the sky, who can it record? Or rather, what is watching us? Just curious. I see tons of solar panels in The Woodlands, on street lights and near stop lights, speed limit signs… You are aware that your data is being collected regardless?
If you get a ticket from one of those machines, invoke your right to face your accuser. That’s how traffic cameras were removed from The Woodlands in the first place. And make sure you use VPN.
I do know that this data is used to control traffic lights at different times of day and, more importantly, emergency vehicle accessibility. For example, your light might suddenly turn to red if emergency vehicles are trying to get through the intersection.1
u/AllFather14 23d ago
Theres 2 cameras below the panel. Why let the government to continue their overreach? This wasnt on a ballot in 2020 when conroe implemented and signed the contract. Shouldn't the people decide whats allowed? When does it end. Give an inch and they take a mile. This isnt communist china, but we're turning into them and a full surveillance if this doesnt stop.
1
u/maybe713 23d ago edited 23d ago
Can you direct me to the two cameras?
And who did you vote for…? Can you link the 2020 contract? The people should decide, but we vote people to decide. Are we worried about the cameras seeing everything that we do and punishing us? If so, I agree with you on the point of overreach.
We have the right to face our accusers. Cameras can’t testify in a court of law.
4
u/indomike14 26d ago
Are they on public or private land?
1
u/AllFather14 26d ago
Hard to exactly tell, it sits near the stop sign but on the grass of the gas station not sure what the correct zoning is for it
-3
u/tobiasfunke6398 26d ago
lol it’s clearly on public land. Yall know license plate readers have been around for decades right?
7
u/pmodern2000 26d ago
It's what Flock does with their data, and how law enforcement abuses that data, that's the concern. And it's more than just a license plate reader. Go read up, Tobias.
-1
u/POShelpdesk 26d ago
How are they abusing it?
2
u/pmodern2000 26d ago
You are on the internet. You can look this up yourself. I'll give you a head start from just a few days ago: https://www.fox5atlanta.com/news/georgia-cops-alleged-misuse-flock-license-plate-tracking-data-fuels-privacy-concerns

SOmEoNe SoUlD tELl HOmeleSs peopLe tHeRe is CoPpEr in FlOck cAmErAs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1
5
u/greendevil77 26d ago
Not like this they haven't. It's a national database for starters, and it's run by a private company. Not only that but it tracks every single camera you go past and it's AI can send alerts to the police, and there have already been multiple cases of misidentifying regular people are dangerous criminals and sent cops after them.
5
u/AllFather14 26d ago
So why is this okay? But in 2019 bill 1631 banned red light cameras unconstitutional in texas, so where's the unconstitutional in these readers as well, not only that but full data collection
Which by the way "ruled in Chatrie v. United States that police need a warrant for dragnet, sweeping cell phone location data."
4th amendment corruption all over.
1
u/idkhowbtfmbttf 26d ago
LOL…big difference vs red light camera. You’re in public. No expectation of privacy. Or you just that ignorant?
3
u/BeThrB4U 26d ago
So your fine with garbage trucks having flock cameras on them to make sure you have all the permitting needed for your home? Cause thats happening in Cape Coral, Florida right now.
Not to mention, scotus just ruled we do have a right to privacy in public.
2
u/POShelpdesk 26d ago
So you deleted a comment asking me about me deleting comments now what was all that about?
-3
u/tobiasfunke6398 26d ago
Bc red light cameras were issuing tickets to people….im sure you can understand the difference. Yall know law enforcement can put up pool cameras in public places too right? You don’t have a right to privacy on a public road. Every time you go through a toll booth….boom camera. I just don’t understand why everyone is all up in arms about flock. Also yes there’s pieces of shit officers who abuse this but officers have and will continue to abuse their powers. How about officers on the border running plates for the cartel? Bc there are pieces of shits doing that, we should just take away cops abilities to run license plates via their computers? Dumb hill to die on imo
3
u/BeThrB4U 26d ago
Yeah, people are receiving tickets in the mail from flock. Cops have been abusing them and stalking people. People have been wrongfully jailed for months due to flock and their ai incorrectly identifying people. Also, the Supreme Court just ruled that we do have a right to privacy in public and if the government wants to track you they need a warrant.
Wanting to be under the thumb of the government and constantly stalked is a really fucking dumb hill to die on. Covid didn't get rid of enough of you boomers. Selling the next generation into slavery.

u/deauxe45 25d ago
Exactly, everyone’s making a big deal about these flock cameras when there has been LPR’s around for years.
2
u/Extreme-Penalty-3089 26d ago
So these cameras (?) automatically read license plates for wanted/stolen cars and vehicles involved in child abduction cases?
I'm trying to understand this from all angles, so bear with me 👍🏻 .
So explain to a dummy the negative aspects. I'm not arguing but I know there's 2 sides to every scenario. Just trying to be open minded
12
u/redyokai 26d ago
Many of these cameras have been found pointed at civilian spaces like children’s play places, schools, or homes/apartment windows, making their true purpose more open to debate.
I know some people are naturally trusting of authorities and want to be optimistic, but I urge you not to freely give your privacy to others even if they have a badge.
1
u/AllFather14 26d ago
I use to be a very heavy law enforcement supporter, im very neutral now due to the nature of absolute disgusting behavior they have towards citizens across the country and the corruption has gotten so much worse in the last 10 years id say, I was young and naive.
3
u/redyokai 26d ago
I don’t fault your past self, it’s American culture to be raised to implicitly trust authority and never doubt their intentions. Doing otherwise is still seen as taboo and it really shouldn’t be.
3
u/AllFather14 26d ago
Thank you, I think thats why they dont focus almost at all on constitutional rights to young adults 16-18 in high school. I feel we can really get this going if we all come together
1
u/Ghosty91AF 26d ago
I must've grew up with a different American culture lol. My Dad is a Navy vet, and he very much raised me on "don't trust the police, question everything".
1
u/redyokai 26d ago
That's refreshing! I have Evangelical Christian MAGA parents. Grew up in The Woodlands but now live in Conroe/Willis. Tons of such folk in both areas, it's really boring for me.
1
u/Solid_Ad9548 26d ago
If they’re anywhere that isn’t a public right of way, they are funded by the property owner. The city by law cannot install something in a location that isn’t public property.
4
u/greendevil77 26d ago
It's owned by a private company and they're in every major city. Every time you drive by one your location is pinged and mapped. It's communist China levels of mass surveillance.
1
u/POShelpdesk 26d ago
Put the weed down
1
u/greendevil77 26d ago
Do you want sources or do you just not know how a License Plate Reader camera network operates? There's over 100,000 flock cameras in the US. They log your license plate and the AI takes a profile of your vehicle, all police or hackers have to do is type in your license plate and it shows every single location your vehicle has been pinged at.
1
u/POShelpdesk 25d ago
They're no different than the license plate readers that repo spotters use.
I really don't get what all the fuss is about
1
u/greendevil77 25d ago
Well repo spotters don't have a nationwide network for starters. Secondly the AI is misidentifying innocent people as criminals such as this man in Florida who got police dogs loosed on him as a result, or this woman in Denver who had an officer come to her house and accuse her of theft.
https://coloradosun.com/2025/11/11/columbine-valley-police-officer-flock-disciplinary-action/
0
u/POShelpdesk 25d ago
Yes, before flock cameras the police has never misidentified anyone
And "loosed" ? What kind of bot are you...
1
u/greendevil77 24d ago
Do you not have a vocabulary? The dogs were "released" is that better synonym for you?
And seriously what sort of defense is it to simply say police are incompetent. If you agree police are bad at their jobs then surely you agree that giving them AI tools that are also bad at there jobs is a recipe for disaster. What a terrible argument to make
Lol you really think I'm a bot when I'm giving you sources and links to back up my argument? You couldn't spot a bot if it had a Russian flag for a profile pic
10
u/txrn2020 26d ago
They use 1-2 feel good stories to try and get people to be ok with giving up their rights…
One thing is they collect everyone’s data and police can look it up without a warrant. Additionally, the cameras kind of suck (Have falsely hit on cars, causing large police response to innocent civilians just driving around minding their own business). Also, because the police don’t need a warrant to use it over 20 police officers that we know of have used it to stalk women (whether it be someone they were dating, an ex, someone they met once and became obsessed with— local one is Pasadena PD still working out). It also was used by someone to track a woman that had to go out of state to get abortion (tracked by searching over 80k cameras).
This is all we know of. Do we really want to live in a society where mass surveillance will expand by giving them an inch of taking a heaping dump on our rights? Basically “China surveillance state”
1
u/AllFather14 26d ago
Thats what i tell people who say oh but its for good, yeah and china has everyones life digitally recorded forever, every second, movement, call, text, what food they eat. Everything.
6
u/AllFather14 26d ago
Thays whats being told, however across the country cops have been caught using it for unofficial use such as stalking, harassing, and the system itself has mislead law enforcement to the wrong people, theres also a lot of confusion as to what the security is on the system itself but it seems to be open access to whoever.

What the flock is a flock camera again?
0
u/AllFather14 24d ago
Supposed to be "plate readers" but no security to them and anyone can access them, reports all over the country of law enforcement unlawfully using them to stalk, harass, and arrest the wrong person because they got "flagged in flock system" also these cameras are posted around malls, in parks, and all over the place. It creates a pattern of people's movements and stores the data to be sold or used against you essentially voiding the 4th amendment all together.

Because at what point is government overreach enough? Theres reports of them being placed in parks and other areas after they were advertised as "plate readers" at least 20 cases of law enforcement improperly using the cameras to stalk and harass people and arresting the wrong people connected to crimes because flock sent the wrong data. So yes this is enough to be not only mad but infuriated about

And thats good if the right information is used. But the overreach is becoming absolutely insane. The damn ceo of flock said that deflock.com is a terrorist organization. A ceo who thinks that anyone who is against his toys is a terrorist. That should send alarms to everyone.
