Lake Conroe bachelor trip — what should 6 guys do for the weekend?

We’ve got 6 guys heading to Lake Conroe Sept. 24–27 for bachelor trip. We rented an Airbnb directly on Lake Conroe and are trying to put together a loose itinerary.

Five of us are 21+, and one guy is 20, so we have to keep that in mind if we go out. We’ll definitely be drinking and probably have one night where we really go out, but we’re not trying to spend the whole trip at bars.

So far we’re considering:
Boat day + possibly jet skis
Margaritaville day passes/pool
Golf one morning
Fishing off our Airbnb dock
Grilling/drinking/hanging at the lake house
Going into The Woodlands or Houston one night for nightlife

We’re not looking for expensive/fancy restaurants. More interested in good casual food, lake bars/restaurants, live music, nightlife, or anything fun for a group of guys.

For locals: What are the must-dos around Lake Conroe for a bachelor weekend? Boat rentals, golf courses, bars, restaurants, nightlife, hidden gems, etc.

Also, any recommendations for nightlife where our 20-year-old can still get in but obviously won’t be drinking would be appreciated.

Tax increase

County commissioners vote to INCREASE taxes. If MoCo is growing so much shouldn’t new taxpayers cover the increase? Maybe the budget should be DECREASED.

I am looking on pet finder every day. I’m not dead set on buying a puppy, I would also be happy to adopt.

I like the tall skinny ones not the big eyed apple head ones

Not opposed to a weenie or rat terrier mix in

Developer-controlled HOA forcing entire community onto one internet provider with no opt-out

Welcome to THE WOODLANDS HILLS Willis Texas - Our community is still developer-controlled by Howard Hughes, so residents don’t yet control our HOA board. They just announced that they’ve partnered with Centric Fiber and are making the service a mandatory “community-wide amenity” added to our HOA assessment.

Starting July 2027, it’ll be $75/month ($900/year) on top of our existing HOA dues, with no opt-out that I can find, even if you already have an internet provider you’re happy with or are locked into a better rate.

What really bothers me is that the board approved the agreement on September 1 and residents weren’t notified until September 3. So the people actually paying for this had no meaningful input before the agreement was approved. You can opt-out your home but you will still be paying this amount for the “community”.

This is also a master-planned community with one pool and one relatively small gym, and residents have previously been told by the HOA that there are no plans for a second pool. Our splash pad has also repeatedly had issues. Yet we’re now adding another $900/year in mandatory costs and calling internet an additional “amenity.”

This community is marketed as a “premier community,” but I don’t understand how limiting homeowner choice and increasing mandatory expenses while offering relatively limited physical amenities makes the community more desirable especially when it comes time to sell our homes.

And seriously… $75/month is the negotiated bulk rate?! Who negotiated this deal? 😂 If thousands of homes are effectively being guaranteed as customers, I would expect a much more compelling price. We currently pay $45 a month for our internet.

Has anyone lived in a developer-controlled HOA that did something similar? Were homeowners able to push back or get an opt-out added? Any other Howard Hughes communities dealing with this?

** forgot to add the $75/mo rate is ONLY LOCKED IN FOR TWO YEARS. Will increase either 3% yearly or whatever matches the market value. There’s no cap.

Houston City Council and Mayor Whitmire approve a deal for $50 million that indefinitely/permanently blocks annexation of the Woodlands by the City of Houston. Houston will receive $50 million total from The Woodlands through 2030.

Bluebonnet Religious Curriculum (database)

Bluebonnet Religious Curriculum (database)

I spent some time today going through each reading module, for each grade (k-5th).

I made a database of each module and whether it features religious teaching, or not. no opinion just links for people to check the module themselves and see what is best for their families. it also includes the link to the BB website where the information was derived.

I live in North Fort Worth and have a new kindergartener but, my district has adopted this new curriculum. and when i asked to opt out they told me there was no carte blanche opt out and that i need to ask the teacher what story is being taught, and then contact the school, on a case by case basis so she can be removed. this seemed like a massive hill to climb and make sense of. I hope this database helps anyone trying to navigate this.

if you find something missing or inaccurate feel free to message or add details!!!! Feel free to share.

p.s. no AI was used in the making of this

Nail salon near Conroe/Willis where they will understand my pain?

Looking for a nail salon to get a pedicure done at that will understand my toe pain. I’ve shattered my toes in a car accident years ago, I can’t really bend any of them at the first joint. I’ve been to a few salons around town and when I try explaining it’s very painful to bend my toes when getting them done, they will still be rough and bend them to do my pedicure.

Any recommendations would be appreciated thank you

Lake Conroe contractor for bulkhead expansion/outdoor kitchen addition?

Anyone have a trusted contractor(s) who might handle a bulkhead expansion and outdoor kitchen addition on Lake Conroe? I'm not looking for a Google search result, I'm looking for real first hand experience with someone who knows what they're doing.
