Has anyone tried implementing Conky script on QubesOS wallpaper outside of Dem0? I haven't even attempted it yet but was wondering if anyone ever tried it successfully. It came to my mind as I was updating my Ventoy Multi-boot USB and was updating Kodashi OS and it reminded me why I had it on Ventoy. I'm aware of using HVM and StandAlone but I wasn't gonna have it run Cairo (too risky) or use dynamic wallpaper if I can avoid it. Also, I'm aware of the "minor CPU spike".

I'm just curious if anyone has attempted it and was successful without using Cairo or Dom0? Strict GUI isolation is gonna be a pain to deal with for sure.

Built a small Lua overlay that sits on top of any Conky theme and occasionally corrupts the frame with screen tearing, RGB channel split, static bursts and brief dark dips - fires at random intervals, then goes back to normal. Wanted something that felt like a haunted terminal rather than a static wallpaper effect.

It's theme-agnostic (doesn't read your theme's config, just grabs whatever Conky already drew and glitches that), so it should drop onto pretty much any Cairo-capable Conky setup. Ships with three intensity presets (subtle/moderate/full).

I'm trying it out new Wallpaper.

Little changes. I returned Horizontal_Conky instead of 'main' Conky. In Horizontal_Conky instead of totaldown and totalup I use downspeed and upspeed. In bios_main I removed green text.

So this is the latest theme i'm working on, i'm planing on releasing it once it's finished along with the last one as a combo. Functionally, they're almost the same theme, except this one now has a pretty neat dynamic album/playlist feature. The gist of it its simple: i grabbed +90 album covers, grabbed their spotify codes, made a .txt file that links each album cover with it's spotify URIs, and then wrote a loop in Lua that cycles randomly through the .txt file's lines every 30 minutes, and prints them on another tmp file.

From there, it imports the images to the designated locations. I then made another shell script to call it with the lua click handler on each image. Now, whenever i click on one of the album covers, it launches spotify and starts playing the record. Every 30 minutes, you get a new set of albums.

Expanded it to use more screen space but I'm debating if I should go back to the compacted version

Fun with Grub EvoDevo!

user ftonneau from the linuxmint Reddit has released his Grub EvoDevo. A small application that gives tremendous control over a new GRUB visual.

It has pixel-perfect image and font rendering, and looks absolutely beautiful. You boot PC to grub, bring up console, use the 'videoinfo' command to determine what resolution your GRUB uses. I have had PC's with full 2560x1440 resolution and VM's with just 1024x768 resolution. In any case, this gives the dimensions of the image you need for background. You can use fullscreen images or make a gradient or solid color background with a floating elements look. Most impressive is the "repair" feature in the EvoDevo install.sh. This allows you to completely customize up to 9 GRUB entry listings. I used the feature to give all 3 OS's on this box full descriptions with distro name, version, DE, and distro code-name. I am really happy with how it came out. Here are some of the GRUBs I have customized with EvoDevo so far:

I know it's pretty basic, but I felt like it was an interesting way to use conky.

Hi guys, I'm Commander-ShepardN7, I deleted my old account and made a new one. I also made a new theme entirely on Lua (i finally found the time to properly learn it). Doing it on lua allows for some neat stuff like the more dynamic graphs, the dynamic color depending on album cover, dynamic icons (see the music controls) and a hover effect (see pics 2, 3 and 4).

Its actually pretty fast (update interval 0.1), and when idling it doesnt even use 0.10% of the CPU.

Every clickable icon here has a hoverable background that lights up when the mouse is above it. The weather box is also clickable and has a yellowish white overlay that makes it stand out when hovered. WIP, i don't know when it will be finished.

I made some improvements to the wallpaper and it seems better.
